He better make sure he does the job for us in the remaining games - don't want silly mistakes from him because his mind is already on Madrid - that would piss me off even more.

I've lost respect for him. I know there is supposedly no loyalty from footballers nowadays, but when you think how old Eric Steele learnt Spanish in anticipation of getting him to settle in, and how Fergie protected and believed in him when he was our weakest link and the press were having a field day - it's disappointing that he let's Madrid and his smarmy agent Mendes lowball United. We won't even recoup properly from any investment we put into him.

Hope he likes it when Casillas ups the politics and makes him uncomfortable; the fans get on his case when he let's in a few etc etc. Finally, the evil part of me hopes he breaks his leg in his first match for them:D

I will be really disappointed if he leaves, and more the point why he hasnt just said that he is going to leave so that LVG and co. can plan to replace him.

To let it drag on this long just seems odd at this stage, we are pretty much guaranteed CL football, so if that was his goal then its more or less done. If he still isnt signing then what exactly is/was he expecting from this season?

Nah man, I could never wish physical harm on a player in this situation. But If he leaves then I would hope he becomes a utterly irrelevant player in the future and then gets sent out on loan to Everton

These LVG quotes may just be a last attempt to get him to sign. However, I think the club has known for quite a while.

Never mind Everton. Send him to bloody MK Dons:D

With stuff like this it is a miracle we ever sign good players.
I was just trying to see things from De Gea's perspective. We will continue to sign good players such as van Persie and di Maria, no doubt about it, but I don't think De Gea will remain with us next season.

The worst part of it all is IF he does leave, we won't even get £80m or something decent like we did with Ronaldo, he is going to walk away for like £15 at the worst. Football really can be a bitch sometimes but I suppose what goes around comes around eventually. Let's tap the balls off of Bale and get him back on a free too.
£80m , where did you get that amount from , we will get nowhere near that for him, anything near £30m will be good business for me.

I don't understand why do he should go to Real Madrid, he wouldn't be the first choice with Casillas (like in the "la seleccion")

He would be abused by the fans everyday (both Real and Atletico)

Despite all, he would be easily replaceable by Oblak, Cech, Handanovic, Leno etc

So I don't think there is any problem if he leaves

I'm resigning myself to the fact he's going. If he was going to stay he would've quashed the speculation but he hasn't.

There are numerous reasons he wouldn't squash it though, for one, it could hamper the size of his contract if he publicly states he's leaving.

Mind you, I'm far from confident at him staying now.

I know I shouldn't be emotional with these things but there was this feeling that De Gea had something special with the club. I expected him to be a bit more passionate about renewing with us and playing for us. The calculated way in which he has played this, although complete understandable, took a bit of my respect away. Maybe I expected too much.

I think he does have something special for the club. Unfortunately, his gf is back in Spain and isnt going to move here. He now has the option of being with her, his friends and family and playing for a club like Real, hard to turn down.

What the feck is your tagline about?

Situation with de Gea is bleak. Will be pleasantly surprised if he signs now.

When did this happen? :nono:

Lose to Everton and Arsenal, and draw elsewhere, with Liverpool beating a few poor teams and an already title winning Chelsea and we could still fall out of it

Some people in here are make me smile, De Gea is GONE, nothing more obvious in world football.
Just accept it and move on.

I'll be absolutely gutted if he leaves and it doesn't look like its going to go any other way now.

But I can't believe some people are actually saying they hope his career goes down the drain if he does leave. We all knew this day was coming. If I was Spanish and playing abroad, with my girlfriend and family all at at home and Real wanted me I know what I would do.

Be sick if he goes, but I'll wish him all the best.

There's still some hope that he's waiting for the end of the season to see where we finish, but it's a bit of a slim hope at this stage really.

He knows very well what Real is like - he knows the media intrusion into a player's life there, the bitch-fights between the likes of Marca and key figures at the club, the constant uncertainty over even their most successful managers, the turn-over of even their better players in the pursuit of the next muppet signing every summer, the strong focus on the profile of players fitting into the marketing and image of the club, the position of Casillas at the club, the way the fans conduct themselves when things aren't going right, and he'll have a firm understanding of how people will react to him in the city - both Real fans but especially Atletico fans.

If despite knowing all these things he still wants to join them, then there's nothing much more to do. At least it sounds like the club are doing all they can, and aren't being cheap with his renewal offer. If we were penny-pinching and he left due to that then I'd be furious. If he is that determined to leave then what more can we do?

I'd remember him pretty much like I do with Ronaldo - was great for us, but he didn't want to play for us so off he goes. Ronaldo at least got us fair value in terms of transfer fee, but when even our home-grown players like Cleverley are running down contracts to deny us a transfer fee for his own pocket, or even worse like what Fryers went along with to screw us and save Spurs a few quid, then it would be naive to expect non-home-grown players to care about the club.

I'll be disappointed in general and disappointed in him. He's gone through the relative shit of last season, we're on the verge of reestablishing ourselves as proper contenders and he's adored by the United masses. It was a brave move for him to make the move when he did and he showed real character to get through that initial 12 months or so when it genuinely have gone either way. Now he's a leader for us, at the age of 24. Just seems a shame to head for the hills when he's reaping the rewards. Exciting times at Old Trafford at the moment.

He is arguably worth that to us. The amount of points he has saved us alone. His kicking ability will be hard to replace too. The fact is we won't get another player of his calibre for years, and not cheaply either. He is just as important or even more important than Di Maria, so if he is worth £60m let's make Madrid pay too.
Well probably get about 40 for him.
Goal Keepers tend to cost less than midfielders and strikers.

You've mentioned reasons why I think he'll stay. I don't think he's a fly-by-night who'll go running the moment Perez bats his eyelashes at him. I think there's a bit more substance to our Dave.

He's been with his girlfriend for five or so years now. They've had a long distance relationship for most of that time and probably hasn't been easy. She's almost 30 too, and might want to settle down and start a family which, for her, she'd most likely prefer to do in Madrid than Manchester.

I must admit, I'm going to be bitter as feck if he leaves, no point in denying it. I've never liked Real Madrid and I'd hope he fails miserably there.

I'm not convinced he's going to Madrid. I can just see the day he signs a new five year deal, sat next to Louis, and saying "I am staying here. I love the club. Real Madrid was never an option"
And the love for Dave hits the roof again.

feck that, the least he could do is sign a contract extension so we get top money for him. He's showing us zero respect if he were to leave like this.

Also, his family live over here with him and apparently really like it too.

Madrid are in fantastic situation. Either we accept their bid or they wait for another year and get him for free (Casillas still has a strong position).

They might as well offer us 10m. Personally I would be surprised if he went for more than 20.

Me too. I'm sick of all these 'wish him well' posts. It's the same nonsense that leads us to get all flushed when Ronaldo says he misses us.

My depressing point of view is that he's going for no more than 25m, and we aren't getting any Madrid players in return. Varane is an absolute non starter, I have no idea why people think that there's a chance of that.

We have no leverage in this situation. We are going to have to accept whatever Real is willing to offer.

I think £15m is a little low for De Gea, but it would probably be a surprise if we get much more than £25m for him this summer.

With only one year left, he could buy himself out of his contract for much less. If he is making 100K per week, that's 5.2M for the last year.

It's a massive oversight by the club to allow this situation to develop. It's one thing for a player to want to leave, quite another for the club to lose leverage over a prized asset and not be able to get proper compensation. A failure in long-term planning, probably fell through the cracks in the Gill => Woodward transition.

If I were Spanish I would definately prefer Madrid over Manchester, that is a no brainer. In fact, why would anyone chose Manchester over Madrid when you consider the climate etc?

Being imported can get you a lot of extra attention for no good reason :) I always took advantage of it.

This is what will be awaiting David every evening if he goes to Madrid. Any more questions?

There's an agreement with the top clubs about players buying themselves out of contracts. That won't be happening.

As for the oversight, unfortunately with Fergie retiring when he did, that put the spanner in the works. The bad season under Moyes that followed, no way would de Gea sign a contract then... and now I'm sure we've been trying to tie him down for a while but he's set on Madrid.

You're right about that, but that possibility sets a low target for negotiations. I think even 20M to us would be a generous offer and seems to be about the going rate for a top player in the last year of a contract.
