Just ask Madrid for Navas and money in exchange and be done with it. He's not going to say, is he?

Really? That's 26m for year. Thought that he's at around 60-70% of that.

On any other stage since I watch football, I wouldn't like that, but now I don't care. He's by a significant distance our best player, so I wouldn't have any problem with him becoming our top earner. If we don't have money, just release Falcao and give his money to Dave.

Unfortunately, I don't think that he's very money driven. He looks a nice guy, and if he leaves I think it would be in order to win trophies + return to Madrid rather than getting an extra 2-3m for year.

How do you think he was able to afford that new Rolls Royce lol.

For one I doubt their wages are that high and also Young and Fellaini were on big wages at Aston Villa and Everton.

No they weren't both their wages were less than £75,000 per week even Mata was on a similar wage,

Voted no when this thread was created. Still think hes gone.

More, I believe (based on my gut feeling) that LVG is part of the reason.
Nah, he's played him in every single game this season. Hardly praised him but it's not surprising, it's van Gaal so he has to do it the tough way.

He'll be gone in the summer and not for a large sum either what with only a year left on he's contract. £20m max which will make us look quite ridiculous, we won't get a replacement for much less either.

I hope I'm wrong but I can't see with our current form and probability of not making top four again, I can't see him staying around despite us giving him this platform.

I'd prefer to get another season out of him and let him run his contract down, rather than take only £20m.

I'd pay him whatever figure he is after.
He is our best player and to my mind, is worth more to us than Bale, Ronaldo or Kane (in terms of helping us win a game).

Anything less than £40M - I'd rather let him see out his contract and keep him until Summer 2016, after which he can join Madrid on a free contract.
He is genuinely the best goal keeper in the World. If he is great at Man Utd, he'll be even better at another club (using the premise that players perform worse at Man Utd than they did at their previous club).

Same in a way, because we're evidently not short on cash. I'd want him to go for a massive fee though just so I don't have to launch elaborate explanations about this every time my scouse mates successfully wind me up. cnuts

He's still ridiculously young for an outfield player, never mind a fecking goalkeeper, who usually retire late into their thirties/early forties. What rush is he in?

The fact is, we made an investment in a 20 year old goalkeeper who has now blossomed into arguably the top two in the world. We should be fighting to make the most of that investment, instead of flogging him off to Madrid for nothing at 24 years of age. Makes me sick that it's even come to this so soon.

Having players like De Gea (and Ronaldo) in your team is what it must be like for "normal" looking blokes with super-hot girlfriends. It just leaves you a dribbling, paranoid wreck, terrified a more handsome, funnier or better toned guy is going to take her away from you. Constantly wondering what she makes of all the attention she gets and watching her like a hawk for evidence she's had her head turned. Its not healthy. Lets get rid of him and get a more error prone keeper in who we dont have to worry about abandoning us.

That's why VDS was a perfect signing in many ways. He was too old to leave us. :p

Cech would be my first preference if Dave does feck off.

...or, more aptly, a guy who's had extensive plastic surgery.

50/50.

There's an inevitability about him leaving, much like there was with Ronaldo. Like Ronaldo, I think there's no way he leaves without signing a new contract to ensure we get a good fee for him. What worries me, is I'm not sure who else would be Madrid's huge muppet signing this summer. They'll sign somebody for a big fee and De Gea is the only one that seems likely at the moment.

I see where you are coming from, and I tend to agree with it. I think he will billed as the Galactico signing for the Summer. I have said it would be Reus for the last 6 months but now his injuries will prevent that happening IMO.

Any chance we can sign Terry on loan, get him to do the dirty on big Dave, so he can see how much of a rude bint hid wife is, dump her for a nice local lass eh.

As For Spain being more pretty on the eye, she's having a giraffe, granted better weather,I lived for a good 6 years in espanol, I would say England is far more idyllic, either way it ain't looking good thigh. Just wish a lot of these footballers would man-up these days and put their wags in their place: Manchester back of a fridge??!!, she should go to Malaga central opposite train station, like a cess pit in the sun.

Not at all bothered if he leaves any more. The prospect of having Gareth Bale in our team makes me much much happier.

Agreed, I have never been that bothered by all this contract talk all along, yes he's good but he doesn't look that keen on signing so he's better gone, if it brings Bale here then all the better.

I think he will be off in the summer. Really want him to stay, but I just don't think with our form of late and all, that he will stay.
You can already see the domino effect that will happen. De Gea to Real, Bale to us, Reus to real

If he leaves us it is gonna be the biggest loss after Fergie for the club( at least for short term)

There's one thing I'm certain of, and that is that the club is going to offer him whatever he wants to stay. Remember the interview where Woodward stated he was sick of seeing the best players leave for Spain? If de Gea is going then it's not about money at least.

He probably does at the moment, but he should stay to be a part of making it better. He's about the only shining light we have right now.

What a load of absolute bollocks.

He deserves to be in a team challenging for titles both domestically and in Europe.

At present he's in a country he isn't from, playing in a team who haven't challenged for a single trophy in two seasons and who aren't even in Europe, that's the reality.

You'd be hard pushed to say he doesn't deserve better.

So we have one bad season and all of a sudden, our key players deserve to leave us.

Let's be serious, many of our best players would still be on the bench in the top teams. How is that better?

Not sure what you're talking about here.

We've had two seasons without even challenging seriously for a single trophy, and we're not even in the CL at present.

DDG is top 3 in the world, we're not even top 3 in our own league - it's totally fair to say that he deserves better than that.

De Gea is one of the best in the world in his position, but come on. We had one poor season, hopefully we'll finish in the top 4, and build from there.

I can't say I ever "support" arguably our most irreplaceable player to leave for Madrid. We're not a hopeless mid-table side with a foreseeable future of nothingness. We're still United, among the biggest clubs on the planet, and David himself knows that. I can't see United slugging between 4th and 7th for much longer, not with the resources at our disposal. I'm sure he knows that too.

If he leaves, then so be it, but a club of United's stature shouldn't have the mentality of selling club. We should be doing all we can to hold on to our most vitally important players. De Gea just cannot be replaced like for like. Nobody attainable can touch De Gea, IMO. It would be an enormous loss. How can that be "supported" by a United fan?

I'll be gutted to see him leave, if it happens.

That's nice. Now please go back to tonguing LVG's taint and espousing his philosophy.

We invested £19m on him plus a further £15m in wages making him the second most expensive goalkeeper of all time. We put faith in him when he had a very shaky first season and every pundit out there called him shit and an expensive failure and we have coached him up from a good keeper with potential to a world class keeper with a claim for being the best in the world and now that we are in transition he "deserves better than us".

I seriously question if some people on here actually support the club. Despite how much we have invested in him, two seasons without winning a trophy and he suddenly "deserves" to be at a better club than United. As if we are West Brom and just so happened to hit the jackpot by signing him in the first place and letting him develop himself.

I agree with this.

One bad season and suddenly its all doom and gloom and we dont deserve to have any good players. Christ.

We have only had 1 season out of the CL.

So last season losing in a COC semi-final on penalties was not really challenging. But for a brain fart by a player we could quite easily have been in the semi of the FA this year. Last year we were not that far off beating Bayern, sure we fell away when they equalized away, but we were hardly embarrassed compared to other clubs.

We are not the shit that so many make out. There is also very few clubs that are better than us that don't have a comparable goal keeper. In England, I doubt Chelsea would do a swap, Barca and Real, again maybe/maybe not, Bayern doubt it. I doubt PSG would interest DDG. So where is all this better options?

If we're a team aspiring to win the PL in the future or even to get top 4 then surely it's logical to, you know, try to keep players that will help us achieve that goal?

If this is the mentality that this club is going to adopt then why not let go of Di Maria and Rooney too while we're at it. You'd think we're a mid table team that got lucky to land some talent for 20m odd euros.
