At this point and with the typical official Marca cover I think it's done , although it was on track for months. Sorry for your sadness, even now you show a lot of understanding and respect (I wouldn´t). Regarding Madrid ... as you can imagine it is a brutal change of having a declining Iker and suddenly change for David. I am looking forward to troll Atletico fans in Marca . I think He was fine in Manchester and since the beginning I think this is his main reason to leave:

Hope she dumps him.

Not joking but De Gea could potentially become the best keeper of all time. He's the type of keeper who could be the difference between winning the league title and CL and finishing empty handed. He's that good. When you think of the amount of crucial point saving saves he makes and the amount of games he has single handedly won on his own you simply can't replace that. No keeper in the world has done what De Gea has been doing this season. If we can put a solid defense infront of him then we will be practically impregnable next season.

Give him 300k+. Make him the highest paid player in the world. HE MUST STAY.

You're just setting yourself up for heartbreak. This move has nothing to do with money, LVG has already said United have offered him 'a lot' of money.

Yes, that is true, but the mistakes he made he wouldn't really have made at Madrid, because it's not a such big deal in Spain handling with crosses and these were the only real mistakes he made while playing for us.

You've forgotten some his errors in the first 6 months! He was spilling the ball everywhere. He let that 30 yarder from Dzeko slip through on his debut and also against West Brom when the ball rolled underneath him. I know he has great reflexes and always been a great shot stopper but he has a lot to thank Man Utd for.

I can already see him talking about how he's glad to be back home playing for the 'biggest and best club in the world' when he's officially unveiled to the adoring Madrid 'faithful'.

Yes and all that was in the first few games, later almost all of the mistakes had to do with crossing. Yes, he has to thank United for some stuff, but he was going to be TOP keeper anyway.

It's not the leaving so much that irks me - it's the fact that I think he's being a sneaky bastard all this time, giving us no indication of his plans so that we could:
a) Have him sign the contract so we get a better deal once he leaves
b) Look for a replacement

I think he'd decided to go there quite a while back, but was only waiting to see what happened with Casillas. He doesn't give a feck about our club - and nothing proves that more than him allowing Madrid to low ball us over a transfer fee. He's worth far more than what Madrid will get him for. It doesn't really reflect well on us as a business imho.

He's been our POTY and one of the major reasons why we look like we'll finish in the top four.

I wish him well if he goes, but I hope we get a good deal in the process.

Still have hope of him staying, it's not official until it's BBC/manutd.com official.

This, this is what makes me upset.

As I said way back in the thread, least he could do is sign with an agreement if he had decided to go. You can only imagine he has been advised to take this course of action and if we do end up selling him for peanuts, then hopefully we cut ties with Mendes for good.

So according to Marca he will earn £4m pounds per year. That equals to a weekly salary of just about £77k per week. That's less than what Jordan Henderson earns for Liverpool. Also is less that what Hart, Curtois and Lloris earn. So basically he's giving up a fortune every week to play for Madrid? Because we were prepared to make him the highest paid keeper in the world.

I wouldn't put it that way, personally. I think LVG's known for a long time that he's wanted to leave, and hence he's never gone too over the top in his praise for DDG. I'm sure we have a plan B/C/D lined up (even if it isn't as good as keeping DDG).

It's net, not gross. That's about 150K a week.

I really hope we play hardball with Mendes. I've never disliked someone so much who I've never met:D
He's made loads of money out of us, and other than Ronaldo, what else has he brought to the table? I'm shocked that a ruthless bastard like Ed Woodward would let this guy play him like this.

How has Woodward given you the impression he is ruthless?

Hopefully so. He's got a lot more out of us than we have from him, IMO.

You do not get to that position, and manoeuvred that Glazer take over bid of United by being a pussy cat.
I don't care about his past, what has he done in football that gives you the impression he is ruthless?

Dumps him. Takes his kids away from him and everything he owns. cnut.

Come on, that's just unnecessarily bitter... I hope Modric & Arbeloa tag team her, with Coentrao filming it and the video getting out on his birthday. Maybe I should just stop posting now by the way, because I thinkthe booze is really getting to me.

Pisstake. Favourite player gone again. Within the next year or 2 he will be universally regarded as the best keeper in the world (I think he's on Neuers level already)

Give valdes the last couple of games.

I don't care if this sounds bitter but I hope he's an absolute flop at Madrid but I doubt that'll be the case. Oh well, thanks David. Our only world class player leaves for Madrid again.

United will be fine....we always get good players in...

I would be happier if we start by being able to keep our top players through some lewd moves at times and even snatch away players from Madrid/Barcelona/Bayern with offers they just can't refuse.

Sneaky in the sense that I think he never made his intentions quite clear to us. I believe he gave the impression that there was still a good chance of him signing a contract extension with us, but in reality he was just waiting to see what happened with Casillas. Now Casillas is a liability and shouldn't (if he's still there next season) have much influence with the club hierarchy - leaving De Gea in a much better position of course.

I'm surprised so many of you lot are upset over this, I accepted he was off ages ago. Ever since it was made known his girl had no intention of moving to England he was off. Lots of options out there that are just as good, Lloris, Cech etc; Hopefully we squeeze a lot of juice outta Madrid for De Gea and maybe a player in exchange, Isco anybody?

You're an odd bunch.

Does that ever feel sickening for you when players from your favorite club keep getting bought by the same club over the years, especially when they have all been grown into superstars by your favorite club? Come back when you will get this feeling and understand it.

I don't think it's always happened before, so why now?

Let's go back as far as Hughes leaving us to join Barcelona before rejoining us after he failed. Paul Ince one of our best players in the the mid 90's went to what he thought was bigger and better to Inter.

When certain players see bright lights abroad it's always going to happen. Not sure we will ever be able to compete with the big two in Spain when it comes to players we are both after. But bayern probably shouldn't be in the same equation.
