I hope he signs soon. I would be absolutely devastated if he left. Gutted. He's my favourite player by a long, long way. I haven't ever really been too sad when players left (maybe Ronaldo) but if DDG went it would be shattering.

Give him all the money.

We're all saying 'give him all the money' and stuff but its quite possible that money isn't a factor at all.

I guess the most important factor in this is De gea genuinely seems really happy to be here, it's not as if he's sulking or anything in the training pics thread he's always laughing or smiling. He just doesn't look like he wants to move away.

He seems really happy here though, always smiling and laughing in photos and the way he celebrated the goals yesterday was like it was one of us fans!.

I think he will sign a new 3 year extension and move with 2 years to go. He knows GK's play at the top of their game till 35 at least and he has time on his side. There isn't any way up from going to Madrid and if it doesn't pan out well there it could mean for a rough career. Hope he recognises this.

He's a footballer, money is definitely a factor.

Wouldn't be the most important factor in this case as we can offer what Real can. The more important factor which is outside of our control is his girlfriend who lives in Madrid, supports Real and no chance of moving here full time as she's got so much going on in Spain.

In that case, who's got a hot sister they can offer Dave!

Not sure how reliable someone smiling in training is as an indicator. Ronaldo, for instance. Did he scowl excessively in training, before telling assembled cameras he wanted to go to Spain on his way to his car?

Seriously, there is no way of telling how he feels about being here, or what he thinks about Madrid, or anything else, from the expression on his face. Or even, really, on what he tells journalists. We can only wait and hope.

If/when he gets her up the duff we're screwed. Van Gaal should get the club canteen to slip some bromide in his tea.

This is what I was thinking.
I'm pretty sure being happy at one's current job and being open to a move aren't mutually exclusive.

He's been here for over 3 years, if he was pinning for his Mrs he'd have gone back already.

I really think it will come down to money in the end though, what's his agent like? A money grabbing shit cnut or someone a bit more reasonable. Even if he does stay, it will most probably be a case of RM, for example, have offered this much, match it & my client will stay. I really don't think we will have a problem matching anything that RM offers in the current administration though. Woodwoodwood has said as much during the summer.

People keep forgetting He's a boyhood Atletico fan. He won't be in any hurry to move to Real at all, infact I doubt he even wants to, just like Koke never will and like Torres never did.

I think he's said in the past that things like that have been tough. Not really been an opportunity to go back before now. With Real looking for a new keeper now, it's the ideal opportunity to go over this summer if he wants.

That boyhood fan stuff means very little. You can bet your arse there are boyhood Atletico fans currently on Real's books and vice versa.

What did you think I was trying to say in that unfinished post you quoted?
Right sorry, didn't catch the last part and maybe there is, except we're talking about someone who has made it, not someone in the youth set up who hasn't kicked a ball yet. He can go anywhere he wants and since he's already at a massive club then he has no reason to move to a club he grew up to hate.

Where are these quotes where he said he hated Real Madrid?

Maybe he's taking his time to see what direction the club is heading to. He's a professional and will do what is best for his career. It's possible the club have offered terms [i personally think this is the case] but he's taking his time to see if we are headed in the right direction, and if that's the case, he'll sign on the dotted lines.

I really don't expect the Atlético links to stop him either. Not surprising, if this is true.
Just hoping he signs a deal and we manage to keep him for a good few years, but I'm starting to think Valdes will be our number 1 next year.

His agent is our good friend Jorge Mendes. Who is also good friends with Madrid.

Gary N also said that we need to stick with the 442 and Moyes and his brother Phil deserved at least another season at the helm of Old Trafford.
Em, that's all well and good but what's that got to do with my post?

Anyone knows why GNev is so eager to put him down whenever he gets a chance?

I don't know for certain, but I think Neville is not overly keen on 'shot stopper' type keepers, who tend to make themselves look good, as opposed to dominant all-rounder goalkeeping types with excellent command of their area, who tend to make the whole defence look good. Not saying the former description is applicable to De Gea any more (his all round game has come on immensely), but it was perhaps a fair criticism in his early days (when Neville made a judgement he seems relatively keen to stick to).

Well that's it confirmed, then. The guy who knows a guy who has some knowledge, in a manner that cannot be identified as "works for the club" or "friends with so-and-so" and instead is so vaguely described that for all we know he once gave Mourinho a gobble in a Madrid toilet stall, says that the Atletico connection won't stop Dave from moving.

What?

Why would ROM bullshit about stuff like that?

who knows how De Gea feels or what is going on....

I fully expect him to sign and there is no indication (as far as I know) from either club or agent that there is a major problem

silly for the club not to resolve this last summer - if we did end up losing him it would be a hammer blow

he's going to be one of the best in the world for the next 10-15 years - give him close to 200k if necessary

even if we did with an aim to selling him for 40-50 million rather than lose him for half that with a year left

Neville doing a nice piece on De Gea about his catches (90% of crosses hes caught this season), one on ones and catching rather than palming out shots.
