Glad Phil isn't on our coaching staff. Clueless.

I still find it hard to believe that at one point we had Moyes and clueless Phil making important decisions on and off the pitch for the club. What a disastrous duo.

Why? Keepers of ddg quality can realistically earn a team between 10 and 15 points a season, can be the difference between a title and second place. Are you old enough to remember Schmeichals 95/96 season?

Shirts,
strikers sell shirts, have you seen a lot of people wearing De Gea shirt ?

We know the real reason for it. He's English.

Yeah, I'm certain that is the case, but if he had attempted to actually put forward an argument justifying this view then that might've been quite interesting - and by interesting I of course mean comical.

I'd say Phil took some abuse on Twitter, the donkey.

Deserved abuse though.

Hart has actually impressed me for most of this year when I have seen him. Only a couple of mistakes and he looks more solid. No way is he better than DDG though.

Football is about winning matches not selling shirts
Part of a club's pitch to a potential signing is about how they can increase their profile, and increase their brand.
Brand and ability to sell shirts very much influences the wage a player gets.

Football the game is about winning matches.
Football the business is about selling shirts.

Easily our best player this season. Those saves today may look routine but that's only cuz we now expect him to make them. What a player.

For the love of god sign him up on a 30 year deal.

I'm pretty sure that football the business is about getting the highest paying sponsorships available, and selling a ton of tickets to games. Both of which are at least partly influenced by winning matches.

Well they obviously aren't mutually exclusive. You sell shirts while winning games.

Very likely the best player in the league in the last two months. And should get paid as much as some of the best players in the league.

Love him and him signing a new (lengthy) contract is more important than the eventual signing of any player.

Make him a top earner here give him 200k+ a week just do whatever to sign him.

he is only behind Neuer as the best keeper in the world.

I'm lost for words to describe how much I love this man.

Yeah of course, but what I meant was that the actual selling shirts part of the business isn't all that important. We earn a lot more from selling tickets and a huge amount more from sponsorships and commercial deals, so shirt sales aren't as big a deal for us. I think Real get a much larger cut from their shirt sales, so for them a big name signing can give a good boost in revenue, but for most teams that's not the case.

Yeah, that's true.
It's not so much the money from shirt sales themselves. But what the shirt sales represent.

To those saying 'give him a blank cheque' etc, money is probably less the issue than the possibility of moving from the 3rd best side in England, to arguably the best side on the planet, playing in his home city, where his girlfriend works, and his family and friends live.

I've no doubt we'll be doing everything possible to keep him, and blank cheques have probably been raining down on him for a while now.

He should be at Madrid, he really should be competing at the highest level. Hopefully he doesn't see it that way and will stay and help the cause.

He is working on getting back to us winning everything.. Woody needs to get this deal done asap..
