It's a two way street though. A serious injury this season could change things and next year he is with only 2 more years on his contract. This summer, after 2 very good seasons and 3 years on his contract is a good time to sell. The player could also be a lot less motivated in seasons to come if he is refused a move. I might be wrong but with the pandemic and empty stadiums i don't see any club spending more then 100 mil on one player next summer either. Before you know it he is on his last year and you lose much of his value that way.That depends on how much you believe in your asset. If Sancho is the real deal, he's only going to get better, wow more and put the icing on the cake during the Euros at which point he'll be worth even more, contrary to the ridiculous notion of him being cheaper next summer, pandemic or not.
High stakes stick or twist, but certainly not without merit.
It's an interesting situation and i expect that future young players that go to Dortmund will demand reasonable release fees in their contracts, much like Haaland is supposed to have.
