Dayot Upamecano | Signs for Bayern

What I read is that his release clause becomes active only until next year. Is that not correct?
Thats the new clause. He had one up until July like Werner

Sancho is still the only one that truly elevates and improves our starting 11 (Dayot probably does the latter in fairness) - so I’m still in the camp of Sancho being a must.

We just will not get a player as talented, young (and British as a bonus) for our RW. We just won’t. That one is still numero uno for me and I hope that’s still the case for Ole.
I absolutely agree with every point re Sancho, I feel it's another Hazard situation and we can't let it happen if we are to challenge next season. However if it means not getting him now and we get him next season, while we get Grealish and Upamecano I can be on board with that. Leaving Sancho where he is could mean we lose out on him next summer to another buyer.

Bailly is our most talented and best centre back when fit. If you cannot see that you must be rub the media nonsense from your eyes.
Most talented? Yeah, I'd actually agree with that.

Best? Not a chance in hell. Even when he manages to stay fit he has almost as many incredibly bad games as he does brilliant games. Consistency is a key attribute for any footballer but most especially a central defender, and Bailly is the opposite of consistent. Both Mourinho and Ole have had to sub him off multiple times because of how absolutely terrible he was during games that they started him. Obviously the injuries haven't helped and perhaps he would have developed that consistency if not for them, but perhaps my aunt would have been my uncle if she had a penis.

The reality is that he's had two good runs of form in the four seasons he's been here, both in his first season. Since then he comes in and has one or two great games then has a shocker and gets dropped.

I regret bringing Baily's name into this thread

If the rumors are true he had a release clause this summer and then renewed for an extra year with a clause for next summer that would make him a target for next summer. He had been linked heavily with Bayern and many thought he was going there this summer before covid and renewing. Would be an awesome player to get was a beast vs Athletico in the Champions League.

Hmm you heard this where? Genuinely curious? Or is this just a hunch?
Hunch. I read in January that Ole wanted to strengthen CB options. Upamecano seems to be the age and profile that he likes, and a (potentially) reasonable price.

I think waiting another season is beneficial.
There's still too many issues to him being injury prone.
If he stays fit next season, sign him.

He should be our second at the least. We have like 7 CB and we're trying to improve our first choice CB pairing not adding 'depth' I think.
I agree with this. That said, he's 21 and plays in a different league, so he may take some time to adjust, like Evra and Vidic did.

According to the bookies, Arsenal are favourite to sign him, one even offering evens.

Would be a good addition but still a long way to go with this potential transfer.

Personally I would prefer adding depth with someone at the same level as Lindelof. It was enough to concede least goals in open play this season, but it was thin because every backup was injured. Improving the first choice would cost a lot but not necessary improve much plus it’s always a risk. Improving the attack could be a game changer.

So I’d rather spend big money for Sancho than big money for a CB. Then get someone at standard PL who has showed to stay fit.

Would be a great signing. Not what we most need, but would still take him. If it is between getting him and Sancho then I take Sancho every day of the week .

There were rumours before for him to join Arsenal but what I remember they did t go through with it because he got his knee injury.

They don’t have the money. 20-30m seems to be their range. Definitely not 60m on one player.

A medical would all take care of that, and the club could always speak to a specialist before. At 21 a knee injury is hardly going to keep you out of playing top level football, ligament damage is different.

If you are 35 and you have played 60 games a season for 14 years a knee injury is catastrophic, for Upamecano I doubt it would be.

Good thing for United versus Arsenal is, the United scouts are usually pretty good with their judgements when signing players, the Arsenal scouts usually sign blindly and it never works out.

Yes a good doctor can always make a risk assessment. But this injury happened at the time when they negotiated if I remember correctly. . Another reason was most likely the price. What I read, Leipzig asked for £80-90 mill.

They also mention Mbappe - it's on!!

Oh come on (and it wasn't just you) , it was a bit of tongue in cheek because us transfer muppets try to read into everything - player doesn't play in a friendly, he is leaving kind of thing.

What would he realistically cost in this window because Leipzig don't strike me as money hungry like a certain other team, however there is that matter of that low release clause not being activated until next summer

Being picked up by Telegraph now:

"..there are concerns as to whether Upamecano can be relied on to start every week in the Premier League at such a young age. The risk in waiting, though, is that other top European clubs will also become interested in the France Under-21 international, with Solskjer understood to be keen to move immediately, before offloading any of the other centre-backs currently at the club."

We've only been linked with young centre backs, so that argument - if it has any merit - applies to all the others too. Difference being, he's going to be world class.

Rojo I reckon we can ship for next to nothing to Argentina, Jones I'm hoping a mug team like West Ham take him.
St Marys hospital Outpatients department will probably be happy to sign Phil Jones from us.

Also says we might wait for one more season as 40 million clause kicks in at the end of season.

At least £60 but maybe up to 80 millions world be my guess. I guess it also depends on how many other teams are interested. If United come with a bid and they consider accepting it, they will most likely look around for other teams to bid as well.

His clause was 60m euros. I think around that

Like to hear the phrase "keen to move immediately" but whether that happens for the second time is as many days well that remains to be seen but it's certainly positive sounding language anyway

That's a wide range...

According to media they asked for £89 millions from Arsenal last year.

For him it might be better to wait for the low buy out clause to kick in, because then he can ask for much higher salary from his new club. i think that’s the whole point with it from his point of view.
