Day 17: England vs Germany | Sweden vs Ukraine (Ro16 7&8)

I get that but calling them ordinary is just disrespectful imo. They are all very good teams at this level. Maybe not individually but collectively. England with the players they have should have dominated that game today start to finish. Great result for you and a win is a win but I still think the talent in the squad isn’t being utilised properly.

To be fair we did dominate? We weren't creating chance after chance, but their best chance was a gift from us. Germany were extremely ordinary, probably even more than these two sides!

Maybe its disrespectful, but with the players we have, the momentum we have, its not wrong and I won't feel bad for feeling fecked off and devastated if we can't get past them.

No argument from me about the talent not being utilised properly, but we're getting the job done, and I'll take it.

Good thing they have the concussion sub rule now...that poor swede took it straight to the side of the head

Never a red, he was kicking the ball, technically it was the Ukrainian that was late.

How can some say thats not a red, it was a shocking tackle
Each and every one that said not red, if it was in a PL game against a United player, you would be screaming for the red.
The Ukraine player will be lucky to be playing again anytime soon.
It wasn't a tackle that's why

“He got the ball first” as the offender stands roasting someone to death with a flamethrower.
I mean would you really say he is an ”offender”? Clearly went for the ball to clear it. Not intentional tackle.

Yeah, and it would still have been completely incidental. You can break someone's leg without breaking any rules.

But he did break the rules, and by enforcing them, we limit the situations where leg breaks can happen.

I don’t understand football, should the defender simply ignore the ball if he doesn’t see an attacker making a stupid run right into him?
Yeah, not sure what the defender is meant to do when he's played the ball. It's bad luck, but it's the attacker who gets their late, not the defender.

I get why it's a red card, but I just don't think the punishment fits the crime. He's just clearing the ball. It wasn't even a challenge, and it certainly wasn't malicious. His motion is upward to clear the ball. It's unfortunate that the contact came when his leg was fully extended.

Not a red folks...

People need to understand that there is difference between UFC and football. As red as you can get.

Nah, he didn't. He kicked a football cleanly. Then there was an unfortunate, accidental contact.

This, imo.

It looked nasty but it wasn’t a red. It’s a kicking game, there’s always a chance that some players can come together in a way where one of them gets hurt unintentionally. It just looked bad, it wasn’t a bad attempt at the ball.

I don't see how that is a red card, he kicks the ball to clear it then the Ukraine player runs into his leg. It's just very unfortunate.

Cannot stretch your leg out like that. If anyone tries to go for the ball on the other side, they're dead. Easiest red so far this tournament.

If that was in the opposition’s penalty area as a shot it would never be a red. Food for thought.

Are people seriously saying that’s a red card. The slow mo as usual makes it look far worse than it is. That’s never a red card. I’d have been sent off 3 times a game if that’s a red card, complete joke a decision, I’m convinced anyone that thinks that is a red has never played the game.

The rules of the game:

'Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.'

Sounds like you're the one more likely to have not played the game.

Players dropping all over the place here. You'd think England will beat either of these on Saturday.
