Day 11: England vs Panama, Japan vs Senegal and Poland vs Colombia

Or remove the bottom team from the equation.
Looking only at matches between the involved teams is already a part of the tie-breaker rules. Arbitrarily removing teams from the equation doesn't really make much sense to me.

Really

As England fans we rarely get to see our NT perform at such a high level. Try enjoying the moment rather than find fault in it.

Agree. It might all end up in tears for you, but two entertaining wins and qualification for the knockout stages is a more than good enough reason to celebrate, whichever nation one comes from. The anticipation and excitement leading up to a knockout tie is almost as valuable as the game itself.

Still expecting more than 1-1 in the 2nd half and no proper chances created in 45 minutes. Panama might not be feeling the heat but as a squad we are physically much fitter and they are a pub team, should still be able to carve out some chances.
I'm more than happy with the result. feck the 1-1 in the second half. Didn't the all signing and dancing get a 0-0 in their first half against these lot? Who cares about halves? It's about the scoreline, progressing into the knockouts with a game spare and finishing with all players fit and ready for the next games.

That’s already part of the rules for a three way tie too. It’s irrelevant really, those are the rules. Just seems silly to me that fair play is the next go to.

Belgium has one more booking so England 1st at this rate but I think you wanna be 2nd.

If both get into the quarters the team that came 2nd would likely play Mexico or Swiss and the team that won would likely play Brazil or Germany.
I'd rather play Brazil or Germany.

2 things to take from this game.

In the position they play for England, Rashford is much better than Sterling.

Vardy is not good enough at international level to lead the line.

Sterling has been poor even against this lot, Rashford in over him for Belgium please, that or leave RLC and put Alli back in to play behind Kane.

All our LB's are woeful, not sure what the solution is there though.

I'd rather play Brazil or Germany.
Well if we play well enough we'd eventually more than likely play them. Why not build more momentum first though? I wouldn't want them in the first knockout game

If Kane carries on scoring, I can see Madrid making a world record bid:D

You asked whether Rashford was being saved for latter stages.
Yes saved for the Belgium match and possibly the knockout stages if he holds his place in the team which he probably will. I reckon Southgate has seen enough from Sterling to realise that he's wasted in this system and Rashford is a much better fit.

Yes, because the top 3 is part of the "involved teams" then.
I’m perfectly aware of that, thanks. Like I said it’s irrelevant, the rules are what they are. It’s just a shit way to decide it I’d say. Especially when the only option after that is to draw lots. I don’t see how that’s better than removing the bottom team results to decide between the two as it’s more of a guide as to who has done better.

Can't say for sure, but I think the Panama team are having a group prayer to give thanks for the opportunity.

Which is lovely.

After fair play they should do better result against the 3rd place side. Anything makes more sense than lots.
