Day 10 | Scotland v Hungary | Switzerland v Germany

This offside system is so much better. We'd be waiting another 5 minutes for random lines being drawn in epl

Terrible defending by Tah. Neuer has been booting the ball all game long as well.

Come on guys... almost a second goal for them?!

There's scrappy matches and then there is Hungary v Scotland.

I know there's so much at stake but making my eyes bleed. Scotland going to have to show far more composure to create actual chances.

Steve Clarke still playing Che Adams over Lawrence Shankland is indefensible.

Neuer has been booting the ball all game long as well.

Have to disagree. The pitch is really bad and he had to clear a few backpasses on first contact. I was happy he consistently got them out of the danger zone, even though he didn't start attacks with the clearances.

Jeez. Just seen the replay of that goal to Switzerland. Pretty embarrassing for the heretofore dominant hosts to be going 1-0 down.

For feck’s sake. They need to stop expanding international tournaments. 32 teams was enough.

Look forward to Tunisia vs Japan and Australia vs Poland in the first knockout round of the next World Cup.

I’d hate to have topped the group and come against Germany in the last 16 because they finished 2nd.

I kind of get the tactics of this game - don’t go out blazing at first. I think 2nd half we see more action.

I'd be livid with my defence. Why are they leaving it there?

Scotland only need to finish 3rd to get through right?
They need to be one of the four best 3rd placed teams. 2 points most likely means they will be one of the two worst 3rd placed teams. They need a win.

They would need a lot of results to go in their favour to go through on 2 points. Possible but highly unlikely the stars would align that much.
Yep. Wouldn’t surprise me if they are banking on that though. Anything to avoid having to win a football match at a tournament.

I’d hate to have topped the group and come against Germany in the last 16 because they finished 2nd.
Oof. Imagine Spain facing off against Germany.

It’s kind of like the opposite of what happened in the 2010 World Cup, where England finished second in Group C because they were held to a draw by the USA and Algeria and had a worse goal difference than the Americans, so ended up having to play Germany in the round of 16, a game in which they of course ended up living. The USA, who topped the group, lost to Ghana.
