David Villa | Monday 'defining day' for Spurs: Villa signs for Atletico Madrid

Would also be a huge whack of history for Spurs. Spain's best ever and highest goalscoring striker with a record that made the others look average

Spurs have got plenty goalscoring history (see Jimmy Greaves) - they want a striker to get 25 league goals next season.

Hope this happens. Would like to see how he gets on over here.

Does this actually have a chance of happening. Could be a massive coup for Spurs, he can still certainly score goals in that team.

That's a great signing for Atleti. Solid replacement for Falcao.

I'm a bit gutted he didn't come to England though, love David Villa. Would have loved to see him at Spurs.

€5.1 million is an incredible deal he's still a very good player. Shame he didn't end up in the prem though.

Bargain for Atletico. Shame we never got him from Valencia when we seemed to be in for him. One of the best in the world in shifting the ball half a yard to get his shot away in such tight situations. Some of the shots on target he has carved out of nothing has been unbelievable.

Pretty funny to see Spurs miss out on a striker yet again though.

Torres, Falcao, Forlan, Aguero and now Villa... Atletico have had some top strikers playing for them, haven't they? Good on them, Villa should do well there.

Has no one told Villa about the heatwave we're having? Surely that balances out the lifestyle issue?

Who the heck are Spurs going to sign? Considering they don't even want Defoe or Adebayor, that's no strikers right?

Good move for Villa though, he'll score goals at Atletico, they need an instinctive finisher to keep them going. Makes sense.

Villa to Atletico for 3 years for 2.1m €. 2m added if stays next year, 1m added if will stay after. Barcelona will get 50% of next transfer

5.1mil is cheap for someone of his quality. Great deal for Atletico.

He must be on ridiculous wages for Barca to agree to something as bizarre as that. It's not just the overall amount but how 2/3 is contingent on him staying at Atlético (alternatively they get 50% of whatever Atlético agree with a third party).

Spurs obviously would have been willing to offer better terms to Barca so the only reading is Villa wouldn't go there.

Wonder what Bale is thinking...

This also fits the story of us wanting to sign Villa a few years ago and being told that he doesn't want to leave Spain.

That's a ridiculously low fee for someone like Villa.

He's 31 and although he did well to come back from the leg break this season and played very well, you still wonder how much he has left in the tank.
