As a GK I don't think I can stress enough that it is hard to keep your concentration up when you have nothing much to do. In fact it takes a certain type of mentality.

When I play 5 a side even though its more taxing as you have something to do every minute or so its easier to play as you are awlays involved.

I remember I let a howler in a few seasons back we were winning 4-0 and I saw the shot but it was like my brain had switched off I dived like an old man and it slipped through my grasp. I had done nothing that game until that point.

It was a regulation save but I didnt react as I was switched off.

I remember reading that goalkeeper's at United are developed to mentally stay focused, like you said at United the 'keeper can go a game without being tested, the technique they use, apparently, is to put themselves in the shoes, or gloves for that matter, of their opposite number and to imagine how'd they themselve would react to anything happening the opposite side of the pitch, would they come for that cross, where they'd dive for that penalty etc.

the de gea deal won't be annouced until after the european championship that is assuming we got him tied up, but things could yet change till then :nervous:

Thought it looked that way from the start of that video, just no mention of it in this thread

With a move to Manchester United seemingly a certainty, Spanish Under-21 keeper David De Gea continues to talk of his admiration for Old Trafford legends Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, most recently in an interview published in AS today.

The Madrid based paper asked the following questions in the build up to Spain U21s encounter with Belarus on Wednesday:

Q. Is it difficult to deal with the constant speculation about a move to Manchester United?

A. I try to stay focused on the tournament. It is important that the players only think about this and not things that are written in the media.

Q. Could it be that a change of agent which goes into affect on July 1, requires that the move to Manchester United will not be made public until then?

A. No. It’s more the understanding that I need to be focussed on the European Under-21 Championships. Keep my head here and not anywhere else.

Q. What do you think about the nickname “Van der Gea,” for your resemblance to the former Ajax, Juventus and Manchester United keeper?

A. Edwin has spent 20 years playing at the highest level. For me he is a reference and a great goalkeeper.

Q. Which goalkeepers do you admire?

A. I look at several. But there is no perfect goalkeeper. Each one has flaws and virtues. Van der Sar was one of the best. But I also like Buffon, Casillas and Valdes.

Q. When you were small, who did you want to emulate?

A. I liked Peter Schmeichel, when he was at Manchester United. He’s the best I’ve ever seen.

Reading that second question again, he's definitely moving to United and it'll be made public after his involvement with the U21s for all those still wondering.

Got a feeling this will be a very good signing by Fergie. He seems a mature lad with a good head on his shoulders. The prospects of him working with Vds at some stage in the future also seems like a good idea.

Or 1 July

Will he be going on holiday after the U21's? He may not officially sign until he comes back from that, which might be mid-July. I do believe he is coming, so I hope he signs before going on holiday just to end all the speculation.

Manchester United target David De Gea has dropped his heaviest hint yet that his future might lie at Atletico Madrid.

The 20-year-old has been widely tipped to be United's long-term successor to Edwin Van Der Sar, who retired after last month's Champions League Final.

But Sir Alex Ferguson has still not managed to complete the signing of De Gea, who is currently playing for Spain at the European Under-21 Championships in Denmark.

And De Gea insists he will not consider his future until the end of the competition.

"I'm just trying to stay focused on this tournament," he said. "It's essential that the players think about only this and not things from outside.

"There is a lot of talk about players leaving Atletico. If the press were to be believed, there would only be two or three players left next season. But Atletico have a great team.

"Any player likes to jump, keep learning and improving. That happens in all areas.

Manchester is a great club and it's a compliment that I am associated with them, but Atletico is also a big one."

another interview not sure if it's been posted. Seems like he just trying to remain respectful to his current club.

Exactly. The headline is ridiculous.

I don't really see how keeping his own fans in the dark and guessing is being respectful. They probably want as much, if not more, confirmation on what the feck is going on just as we do, and are probably more annoyed at not knowing.

Fans always want what they cannot have.

I think he's being respectful to his employer, while he is still under contract to them.

he changes his agent as of 1 July - so no deal will be announced before

Hmmm, they just think he's leaving and they've thought that for months. If he stays they'll be pleased, but there's actually more debate about Asenjo Vs Joel and whether they need to buy anyone in (they seem to think they don't)

But Atletico really are in turmoil. New manager. Probably losing Aguero, De Gea, Forlan, Reyes and some others who I've forgotten. Ujfalusi has gone. I'm not surprised (Atletico fan) De Gea is trying to play it down, I doubt he wants to feel like he's running away from a sinking ship.

A pretty ridiculous set of circumstances, but that's modern football for you.

Just hope we don't end up with egg on our face. The fact we haven't gone and signed a keeper speaks volumes for our confidence it's a done deal.

Interesting. I watched Poland- Bulgaria game which took place around a year ago. Kuszczak was a keeper for Poland in that game and i rember him doing certain drill through a whole game- it was probably an advanced warm-up but still he was active through 90 mins.

I wont be surprised if SAF has a plan B.

He possibly doesnt want his present agent to get any sort of payday & maybe new agent / agency have advised to sign nothin until then or they wont represent him...

Yeah, the conventional wisdom is that he doesn't want the current agent to get a pay day because he is still on his first professional contract with Athletico Madrid being underpaid despite 2 seasons with the first team.
He is thought to be unhappy that the agent never renegotiated his contract before this point.

Its good for us though, because he as a reasonable release clause that we are trying to use to sign him. If he had renewed the clause would have been increased beyond our reach. Sounds like an agreement is in place with Mendes and De Gea already.

I say he's in right. The fans don't matter in this situation. By all accounts everyone knows we're just waiting for July and as the management hasn't come out to complain about United, they have their answer whether or not he's staying.

Fans just have to wait. And the only time this kind of delayed waiting is bad is when the player has not told any party.

Jorge Mendes? United seem to have a good relationship with this chap!

If memory serves, he's Nani & Anderson's agent aswell. Ronaldo & Mourinho too. Just shows you that for a club, a good relationship with an agent can work in your favour!

Mendes is Falcao's agent too, which could mean he's either bound for Real or us, if we remind him about Bung...I mean, about Bebé.

At the age of 20, isn't he supposed to be a misty-eyed enthusiast, fuelled by romantic idealism and the overwhelming desire to simply play football, as opposed to a sulking, money-hunting businessman?

O tempora, o mores!

:lol::lol:

Yeah, mate, you can tell it's my work because it's awful. :D

Class :)

These lot dont seem to think so tho... although you've probably read their reviews, which i have to say are a little feckin over-the-top big-wordsery & downright poncey:

Amazon.co.uk: Customer Reviews: The Poison of a Smile - Season 1, Episodes 1 & 2

One Review wrote
"I would think that almost anybody reading `The Poison of a Smile' is more versed in horror lore than I am, but even I can detect that this is a reworking of `Dracula', or possibly of `The Brides of Dracula', delivered through a highly intelligent, rigorously-observing and distorting lens.

"Don't go to that house!" we all scream and, just as surely, they all do. That's the traditional bit.

But who are `they' who enter the house and who are `they' who lurk there?

Being myself the co-author of a work in progress which has been accused of devouring real lives in order to feed its pages, it is fascinating to find a similar process being described here in relation to the positioning of paint on canvas. What we look for in a painting is not just the verisimilitude of an object or of a person, but intimations of the very soul of that object or person. The outward form is not enough; the work must be a sacrament (the outward physical sign of something inward and invisible).

So here we are in the literary land of shadow play - the visible shadows featuring prominently in the story itself and the invisible shadows surrounding the story, the metaphysical reflections of the author.

I am sorry if this intellectual critique of `The Poison of a Smile' is off-putting to the casual horror fan keen to enjoy the next thrilling instalment, but my guess is that the casual horror fan is going to be left dissatisfied by this book in its elusive staccato form. It is a novella whose narrative is pared to the bone, beautifully written, setting the scene and creating the structure for the more fully fleshed-out plotline to come.

For anybody fascinated by the interplay between art and life, as I am, it is a must-read in its subtle observations of the artistic process, even layering the words down on its pages like brushstrokes.

And in its sequels, I can imagine it could stretch anywhere, using the televisual horror medium to explore pertinent aspects of real life as the best science fiction succeeds in doing.

This book is not the entire building, it is the cornerstone to the building and I, for one, engage to watch as Steven Jensen develops the storeys and rooms of that building on his own unique terms. This may not be a book. It may be an event, a landmark...It would make a great pilot for a TV series too.."
"
:wenger:

Yep, that review is even more pretentious than the book, which is really saying something. :D
