It's him, Adler or Neuer but yes, it does look like De Gea is the most likely option as Neuer will not move here and Adler interest seems to have cooled down.

Who says he will though. He's only 21 now and in a few years he could go the same way as Foster.

Well there are no certainties in football. He could go down the same road as Foster, but equally he good go on to become a very good and reliable goalkeeper.

17m for a goalkeeper isn't all that expensive. It always makes me laugh that people seem to be unwilling to spend that bit more on a goalkeeper, when it's the most important position on the pitch. Look how many points Arsenal have dropped due to not having a reliable goalkeeper.

Well i think our interest in De Gea is pretty legit dont you? Atletico Madrid are even admitting to offers for the player from our club, so clearly hes a target that much is plain as day.
Maybe, they've also admitted to offers from Chelsea too.

Doesn't mean he would be our first choice goalie. We've also bought Lindegaard. Chances are that Fergie would want a more experienced first choice goalie anyway.

I'm sure no-one would laugh at spending that sort of money for a VDS replacement.

There are so many of these types of stories. I wish there was a law which stated that if papers printed false stories, they got banned for printing for a day. Let's say we don't sign him, then this was just complete bullshit crated withnno evidence but the paper gets away Scott free. I'm all fir freedom of the press, but you should get punished for lying.

Chicharito is also fluent in Spanish, as I'm sure are some of the coaching staff/scouting team.

The way they're reporting that it seems like it actually is going to happen, what with the 'We told you so', that's normally only printed after deals are actually done.

if we were to sign him id like us to sign maybe another spaniard who possesses united quality to help him settle in

Yeah. Then I'd like us to sign another Spaniard to help the second guy settle in too.

Also Rafael/Fabio are feeling alienated because they are the only set of twins in our first team. Obviously we need to be find another set of twins so that they can share the heavy burden that is twindom. Oh sure people would have you believe it's all about lifetime companionship and screwing each others girlfriends (without them knowing) but really there's a downside that only twins can understand.

I better see Lindegaard given a chance.

I don't know if the De Gea deal is done or not...but I doubt Linde is going to be given an opportunity to straight up compete for the position.

No way are we paying 20mil pounds to keep a keeper on the bench, unless Fergie somehow convinces Edwin to go back on everything he, Fergie, the club have been saying all season and come back for 1 more season.

In that case, De Gea could sit and learn under Edwin for a season or so...but otherwise, if the deal goes through, he will be our uncontested starter.

The obvious thing here is a player not wishing to get stick off his own fans for the remaining matches of the season by admitting he's signed a contract with someone else.

Aren't 99.9% of all deals announced in the closed season (except for the January window) but how many really think they're not started and concluded way before?

Daily Mail are just pathetic aren't they, they rehashed a story from that Spanish Radio Station and now they've put it under their Exclusive section.

United's De Gea risk | Sky Sports | Shows | Sky Sports News | News

Well, some people were wanting confirmation from Graham Hunter of our bid for David De Gea being accepted by Atletico Madrid and here it is. I'm not sure where he's got his information from or if he's just following the general consensus. Interesting opinion on De Gea's development nonetheless.

Today:

According to Dailymail we've signed our man, fee agreed and he'll sign a five year deal.

Manchester United to sign David De Gea | Mail Online

Graham Hunter was on SSN this morning again and said that United and Atletico have agreed a fee in principle and De Gea's comments yesterday were that of a player who will most probably move in the summer. I think it's only to be expected that De Gea would dismiss any talk of a transfer when Atletico are approaching their most important part of the season, but his comment that he'll evaluate his position at the end of the season does insinuate quite a lot.

Manuel Neuer 27/3/86 = 25 6ft 5 - built like a Tank - 187 games

David De Gea 7/11/90 = 20 6ft 4 - thin and wiry - 74 games

Neuer has about 2 full seasons more experience under his belt but is 5 years older.

Cech was 22 when he joined Chelsea and had played 136 games before he joined. He signed for £7m in 2004. £7m in todays money would be around £10m. Assuming a 15 year playing career until he is 37 thats £666k a year. If De Gea signs for £17m and carries on until he is 37 then thats a cool £1m a season or 50% more than Cech a season.

A fair price would be nearer £12m.

On a slightly related note, what has happened to Sergio Asenjo? He looked brilliant before joining Atletico, and if you had asked me two years ago which Atletico keeper we would sign, I would have said him. Has he just gone off the boil or something?

Why?

You can't compare prices like that, if so compare it to Buffon and it seems very cheap, whats stopping him being better than Cech?

Poor form and a back injury coinciding with De Gea playing exceptionally, they loaned him to Malaga in January.
