De Gea: "I have not signed anything with Manchester United, is all a lie"

David de Gea appeared on Wednesday before the media after practice that Atletico held in Majadahonda to deny information Onda Cero claimed that he had reached an agreement with Manchester United for next season. "I have not signed anything, I'm comfortable here. Everything is a lie, I have a contract with Atletico until June 2013 and is now essential to put the team in Europe, but later when the league finishes we'll see. Until the end of season is not be decided anything, "said the keeper.

The young footballer reiterated that "today there is nothing." "Everything is a lie, I have not signed anything and I have a contract here. At Atletico took many years and I have affection for the club, but until end of season do not look at anything," remarked De Gea. And is that the goalkeeper is aware that a piece is listed to the transfer market. "There are many class players here that many teams want to have and the club also has its share of decision. For there is nothing, I'm quiet, but then we will" never tired of ensuring the youngster, who left everything open for the season finale.

Therefore, De Gea admitted that he is willing to listen to a renewal offer from Atletico. "If I want to Atletico will fight for me would be very difficult to leave. It is my club forever," settled. "The team certainly with the people that there is a great team and hopefully next year everything is going better than this year.'m Sure next year there will be a good team because it is clear that anyone likes to have a great team" he said, noting that the draft presented by the directive will be a point in his favor to stay. "I've been taking it all for this team since I've been here, either today or tomorrow when I go I'll always be fighting. We have the best fans in the world and support me until the last day," he said when asked if he fears criticism by the Atleti fans.

De Gea stressed that no deals have been reached. "At the moment I know nothing, nor offers any equipment. I'm very focused as everyone here to put the team in Europe, which is paramount and no one has to set in contracts or anything," he said. "It does not matter, it is always my team, the club where I have many years until the end of the season will not decide anything, there is much more than talk," he reiterated again and again to reassure the team. Asked if this bothers you, it is clear that no, he is quiet. "That does not bother but you do not need much else. I'm here, I've been here all my life and I have not signed anything, at the end of the season we'll see everything," he said, stressing his intention to clarify his future this summer.

From Marca, translated with Google.

He hasn't signed anything, loves Atletico but will make a decision at the end of the season. Seems to me if the club receives the right offer (which according to some they have) then he'll be sold.

Sounds like it's a done deal to me and that this is just him keeping everyone onside until the end of the season before moving on.

I've seen the odd game involving De Gea but not enough to judge him completely, any one of the many La Liga followers on here know more about him and whether he's got what it takes to be a great PL and United keeper?

Feels like Torres.

No, I do not mean waking up feeling drained the day after a big night out to realise you just spent an awful lot of money on someone whose gender is indecipherable.

I mean back when he was at Atletico, we seemed certain to get him then but it all went tits up.

Thankfully I am just a pleb on a forum linking events mainly because they're both Spaniards from Atletico, so I may be wrong.

United's De Gea risk
Can young Spanish stopper handle the pressure cooker?

Can Manchester United target David de Gea fill the shoes of Edwin van der Sar?

That was the question posed to Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Graham Hunter, who believes the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has the talent to replace the giant Dutchman.

However, he isn't convinced de Gea has the experience to step into the Old Trafford pressure cooker.

Hunter told Sky Sports News that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs and the deal could go through if de Gea agrees personal terms.

But he feels Sir Alex Ferguson would be taking a gamble by signing a 20-year-old, who only made his first appearance in La Liga last season.

Hunter said: "The mentality's right, the seriousness about his profession's right and he's very, very talented, but I wonder whether he is ready or not. I think it's a huge risk.

"We've seen under Alex Ferguson's reign, some of the few disappointments of his time at Old Trafford if you look at Massimo Taibi, Mark Bosnich, Tim Howard, Ricardo and the struggles that Fabien Barthez had.

"I wonder whether de Gea is ready for the pressure cooker. If you look at his form this season, the talent has been on show but the second-season syndrome has given us some weaknesses and some errors.

"They are natural errors at that age, but if he's changing to a league where there are far more crosses, where you're changing language and when you're only 20 I think it's a huge ask.

"I'm a little bit surprised. I think Manuel Neuer was a more ready-made candidate; a bigger man with more experience and more used to the style of football in England."

Radar
Hunter explained that Schalke goalkeeper Neuer was on Ferguson's radar, but they have now made de Gea their number-one target.

The Spain Under-21 international must now decide whether he wants to leave Madrid for Manchester and Hunter says he will take some time to think before putting pen to paper on a deal.

He added: "He was in close competition with Manuel Neuer, the Schalke goalkeeper, and it's reached a stage now where Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have got a price agreed.

"It's down to David de Gea to say whether he's ready or not and he's taking some time to wonder about that himself.

"He's been mature enough at the age of 20 to realise he's only had a season-and-a-half and to realise it's a complete change of horizon as well as a change of league and a change of language.

"The final hurdle is David de Gea saying to everybody: 'I'm ready to go' - and I suspect that is what's going to happen."

Well, some people were wanting confirmation from Graham Hunter of our bid for David De Gea being accepted by Atletico Madrid and here it is. I'm not sure where he's got his information from or if he's just following the general consensus. Interesting opinion on De Gea's development nonetheless.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea has again played down speculation he is set to join Manchester United in the summer.

Reports regularly suggest the Spanish youngster has agreed the move while Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin last night claimed both United and Chelsea have made offers.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists such claims are premature and the player himself has echoed those comments.

The article sums up my feelings about this potential deal perfectly. De Gea's an outstanding talent, but I prefer goalkeepers to have a bit more experience.

I know he's played in a European final and a few derbies against Real but still...

Good article.

This is why I have reservations about De Gea.

Is he that good and guaranteed to succeed that it would be worth spending 20 million on him? I'm not quite sure.

If the club are willing to spend that much, then they think it's a decent enough bet. I'm putting my faith in their extensive scouting and background checks.

Chelsea & Arse won't be in for him - paper talk.

United & Atletico will have no trouble agreeing a fee, all it comes down to is whether De Gea wants the move himself yet. He's apparently a bit reluctant with his agent (Or old agent - not sure if he's changed yet) pushing for the move.

Maybe his quotes suggest that there is no point talking about a transfer until the season is over as it would instead be better to simply focus on helping the team he clearly has an affection for finish as high as possible in La Liga

Certainly none of the quotes from Atletico or De Gea come even close to saying this is not happening, just delaying it. Maybe they've seen the Schalke fans protests against Neuer's departure or something. It's certainly not a cloud you want to play under till the end of the season.

I can't see the Chelsea thing happening unless Abramovich has lost it and wants to do a City and sign every promising player he sees, just for the sake of it. Cech isn't as good as he used to be, but not enough to demote him. And you don't sign De Gea to be his understudy.

Long term I'd use the word promise, not potential. He is good enough to play very well for a top club for many years in the long term. He's also seen as the successor to Cassilas, not Reina. Thats a promise not a prospect.

But short term in the next year or so, he may take a while to find his feet and settle. And there will be a few errors to learn from along the way.

He will get there though, thats why the money is high. But over the next season or two the likes of Neuer would have been a better bet.

Aside from VDS the keepers in England really arent that brilliant. Cech has found some better form and Reina is good but I honestly believe our keepers in the premier league tend to get a bit overrated. So I think he'll find it easy to stand out long term

FIFA.com - De Gea happy at Atletico

Suggests to me several things that the deal is done and all parties are keeping quiet so not to distract anyone at this stage of the season.

If it is true my only worry is going from having to wealth of experience VDS has to two young goalkeepers early in there careers. If it is true though lets hope he will be the real deal.

Most probably. He is the guy in pole position to replace VDS. I am just happy it is not Steklenburg.

Christ, they have some keepers don't they? Casillas, Reina, Valdes, De Gea and even to a lesser extent Palop.

He's not signed for anyone yet. Just speculation at the moment.

Hope it stays that way at £17.8m too.

Well if we dont get him then where do we turn? its all well and good saying so an so is not worth this or that but needs must, clearly De gea is the keeper fergie sees as the man to replace Edwin, if we dont get him then what? we're back to where we were post the great dane looking for second and third choices which is a problem and weve seen just how big a problem it can be when you havnt got a good enough keeper, Howard/Taibi/Bosnich/Barthez etc etc

Get the deal done as quickly as possible i say, if hes our man then great, much rather that than have us fecking about over a few quid and missing out on a key position to fill.

Based on what?

There's quite a few goalies out there that folk seem to think are the ones Fergie want to relace Edwin with. We don't know who that is just yet.

Well i think our interest in De Gea is pretty legit dont you? Atletico Madrid are even admitting to offers for the player from our club, so clearly hes a target that much is plain as day.

The thing I like best about him is the height. Such a huge advantage for a goalie. How does he measure up to VDS?
