To be fair, I don't think it's as easy as it looks. It bounces right infront of him. Those are the hardest balls to collect, you have to gamble on the bounce and spin. He's not the first to spill one of those, he won't be the last.

its just that compared to his superman self he has been poor. Compared to most keepers in the league, he is still a tier above though

He's been trash since the Euros. A season where the team isn't constantly under pressure for 90 minutes & he immediately wilts. Should consider dropping him for a game or two considering Romero's form.
That's not true

He didn't look proactive enough to me, seemed to just let the ball hit him instead of actually trying to save it.

Been pretty average all season. Quite a few errors.

Not this season. He's had very little to do and not done it particularly well. That Coutinho save is the only really impressive moment and there's been at least three really poor moments.

Still a fantastic keeper but sod's fecking law that he is absolutely brilliant under managers who were soon to be sacked then has a dip when we need him most.

Have I mentioned my theory about the gypsy curse?

Funny thing is had he kept his LVG form going we would've had about 8 points more this season and no one would've complained.

Fine margins. Of course by now, our inability to kill matches off is becoming a mental problem.

nah he had excellent saves even vs city, last game etc. he had the mistake vs chelsea, stoke and today. if you stretch it, you could blame him for the goal vs watford too but that wasnt really easy to save

If we are talking about the opening Watford goal he definitely should have done better with that. Add that to 3 major feckups against Chelsea, Stoke and tonight, he's been poor.

Was a hard shot to control but he already had mistakes like this like the one vs. Stoke.

Would be interested to see his save percentage in the league this year compared to others. Feels like he's not having much to do, but not doing well either. A poor season for him so far, but he's got a lot of goodwill in the bank.

A pathetic excuse of a man.

Only joking. The shot was almost knuckle ball hit and bounced right in front of him. He is not a machine. He would've dealt with it better 9 times out of 10 but this stuff happens in football. I have no issues at all with the goal on his behalf.

It was a tricky shot but with the quality he has he really should've saved that. I was surprised to see him play tonight, I thought Mourinho would give Romero a game.

The hyperbole is strong in this one it is.

People asking for him to be dropped

Can just imagine people asking for Schmeichel (especially in Treble season) and VDS to be dropped too years ago after a few mistakes too. Damn.
I was kinda surprised he played today especially after a friend of his was involved in the crash yesterday.

Let's be honest, he's been below par this season. But I'd take adequate performances from him if it means the team's playing well in front of him, rather than the superman De Gea performances of the past 2 seasons coupled with tumescent Van Gaal football.

He'll get back into form, not too worried. But he has been a bit shite this season (continuing from the euro's). It happens though. He is god like for 3 seasons so a little dip was bound to happen.

Could his drop of form be due to change of GK coach?

C’mon, this is Dave. Even if you walked in to his house and found him mid coitus dragged him to a pitch, e would still the best Keeper in the league. So a dip in form means nothing.

It will be interesting to have 'shots on goal against' stats there as well. It doesn't affect saves/goal conceded ratio but it tells how much involvement of GK was needed. For most of the games this season, he isn't involved much for majority of the game from saving perspective.
Though it will be subjective, if we can get stat of goals where he was at least partly at fault, that will be good too. He has committed some mistakes this season but he might have had some in prev seasons too but his heroics when he was quite often needed to bail team out masked those.

Most keepers would have just pushed the ball wide since it bounced just in front but I think De Gea tried to hold the ball which led to the error. But this just shows the level of confidence he has in his own ability. He has been in top form for 3 years now and a slight dip is nothing to be concerned about.

I agree, it's a lot harder to deal with as the ball had all kinds of (CLICHE alert), dip, swerve and pace. He's made the save but is unlucky that his block has landed straight at Fletcher's feet.

Up the other end, Adrian makes an absolute meal from Zlatan's freekick, again a cliché ridden shot with pace, swerve etc but that one bounces off the inside of his elbow and then flies off at a right angle into his midrift and he collects the ball. That shot should of and easily could of flown into the back of the net and people would be talking about that as a howler.

De Gea got unlucky and people asking for him to dropped really do confuse me.

It was a mistake but we have no right to say anything AT ALL. He's got more than a few howlers left in the bank after these passed years.

I actually think DDG is struggling with how quiet he's been through matches. We are practically giving him nothing to save unless it's a real good chance.

He used to be in action nearly every few minutes and was kept busy, he's probably struggling to adjust, I noticed that for Spain too.

I thought it might be that too. Liverpool away was his best game and he had a busy night. I hope he's working on adjusting to having to make one save in some games. If the defence improves, it will be even more quiet for him

He's mostly had very little to do this season and perhaps that plays a part? If it does he needs to figure it out.

It's around 10 shots per game, the lowest in the league iirc.
