I've always thought that VDS is indeed held with huge regard and credit for his time at United. Immensely popular and respected I believe.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. He is considerably respected by our fans, my line was meant more about our goalkeeping threads, when compared to present DDG or Schmeichel he (VDS) doesn't get too much love... in comparisson, citing he played behind a great team/defence so it was easier for him. My comment was just about that really, not having anything to do for large periods has it's own set of challenges.
Not being called into action very often and having to keep mental focus is such a huge part in a goalkeepers game in a top side and VDS had such wonderful concentration levels, better in my opinion than both Dave & Pete.

This guy has been top class for a period of 3 or years or more, he pulled off some ridiculous saves too. My personal favourite was the save in the FA cup against Chelsea, in the dying minutes when he stopped a goal bound shot by Mata with his feet.

If I could start a thread where we share our De gea favorite saves then I would, to remind people how good this guy is because a lot of people seem to have forgotten, but I'm not a full member yet...

Tottenham 2:1 Man Utd
Best GK in the world, if we can persuade him to stay that would be our biggest signing.

The British press have been insinuating that we are willing to sell him. Utter madness.
Unless he pushes for a move, Real should be told to feck off!

Would be devastating if he left in the summer, one of few who deserves to be in the team. Having said that, you could understand him wanting to leave, CL football guaranteed, title challengers and playing for a significantly better team.

Not in the squad for Soton and considering Romero will play the Europa final I find it strange he hasnt travelled, no news of him being injured either, for our No1 Goalkeeper to not play the remaining league games (hopefully back for Palace) is strange to me, also with the news linking us with James I feel he really might be off in the summer which isn't ideal, regardless of who we bring in to replace him or promote Romero to 1 he is our truely world class player,

Not much better keepers bar Neuer imo, hopefully im wrong and he stays but it would be a tough one to take, we are supposed to be building a world class team and losing him wouldn't be the best start.

Or its simply that with a week from the final, we are likely to play the team that is playing the final.

And playing a young team on Sunday.

Can't it just be that simple?

I hope he takes a good look at the medal tonight and ask himself if he really wants to leave. Our wagon has just started rolling. It could be the next huge team in Europe.

If he stays and we get greizmann then we actually will have some truly world class players at the peak of their powers. Even the best teams only need a few outstanding players. Team conhesion is most important after that then. Our "project" must be pretty interesting again with CL, a competent manager and seemingly near to unlimited funds and paying higher wages than Madrid too...

we just need to sort out the attack and get some more class young players to gradually blood into the side and we will be back in the top bracket again before too long.

Romero has been fantastic, and deserved to start tonight, but De Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world.

If we want to go on to do great things, we need a solid foundation, and that starts with having De Gea in goal.

Really hope he stays. Think now that we're in the CL, there's a good chance he will.

Really hope he stays just because he is arguably the best keeper in the world. Hope his mind is not set on leaving, but we shall see.
