I have left Jo hart out because I think though he is a good keeper he currently has a tendency to parry the ball back into danger rather than away from goal.

I rate Hart higher than Given.

Chesney has played 26 games for Arsenal and 29 for Brentford. Total = 55
DDG has played 57 for Atletico and 9 for United. Total = 66

By the end of this season I expect both to have played similar amounts as DDG is rested more often.

Playing for Brentford would have "touhened up" Chesney.

Shot stopping and handling I'd say they are at a similar level. De Gea has better agility, distribution, temperament (although he has had lapses in concentration this season) and pedigree. Szczesny his bigger and more commanding at the moment, each has strengths and weaknesses so I'd agree they are at a fairly similar level but De Gea is honestly slightly ahead. Just my opinion, Im sure people disagree with me.

I'm just stating that most fans haven't seen a great deal of him before he signed and he's still settling in. Szczesny has been in the PL for 2 seasons.

Maybe yes, I dont think theres much in it at all. I actually think De Gea will go on to be a more consistent keeper. Once he gets a bit bigger and learns to cope with balls into his box.

You could also argue De Gea's experience of playing big games for Atletico is better than going on loan to Brentford.

It swings and roundabouts. Both have the talent to go on to become the worlds top GK of that I don't doubt.

Looks like the Seaman vs Schmeichel epic battles of supremacy are back on!

Certainly, quite a few excellent young keepers around at the moment.

Hart, Chesney, De Gea, Krul and even the young lad chelsea loaned out.

Also with how Lindegaard looks, dont expect De Gea to have it all his own way!

Just out of interest, what do you mean by 'pedigree?' Sounds like rubbish to me.

Szczesny's been in the Arsenal academy since 2006 (which would at the very very least rival Athetico's), and already played for Poland. Yes, they aren't as good as Spain, but they do have a few decent goalkeepers though (Boruc, your one, and... er... Fabianski?).

You do know that De Gea has played in the UEFA Cup final, for example?

Chesney played in the League final though in which he was superb...

In all seriousness I would put Chesney ahead of De Gea at the moment as the latter is still adjusting to the league and if I had to pick one to make a mistake next weekend it would be De Gea.

Will change for me once De Gea is fully adjusted to the English game and he is on his way for sure.

Yep, played in a UEFA cup run upto and including the final (which they won), he's represented his country (a large football country with a lot of competition) at all the youth ranks at major tournaments (winning 2. U-17 and u-21). This is his 3rd season playing in a top flight league at the age of 21, compared to Szczesny who is in his second, and the only notible thing he's won is the FA youth cup.

Edit: I know winning trophies isn't a big deal for a club like Arsenal, but it's nice to have players with a winning pedigree ;)

I wasn't hence the "..."

No matter who was to blame for the Birmingham winner (was a combination of Kocielny and Chesney in my view). That mistake lead to emphatic collapse by Arsenal that stuck around for a long long time.

I rate both keepers as huge tallents, but I will say both have the same weakness, one which all young keepers have, and that is comunication. The feck up in the final with Arsenal was a communication issue. But this is not new and is a recurring thing in young keepers. It is only with experience that the communication to your team from the back improves. Both wil get better at at, both will, in my opinion, become amongst the best keepers in the world.

Maybe this will go on all season, but aslong as he keeps proving the doubters (mainly the media, and a couple on here) wrong then that's fine by me. After watching most of his games at Atletico Madrid I know he is the real deal.

I thought Arsenal dealt with it quite well considering... up there with Bolton's reaction to getting thrashed by Stoke at Wembley.

Sad thing for Arsenal is that they don't get the chance for cathartic revenge which Bolton got last weekend!
Their best plan would be to try and come 3rd in their Champions League group, and hope to meet Birmingham in the UEFA Cup. Maybe.

Yeah the papers just won't stop talking about De Gea. At the start of the season it was about his performances and now that he has improved so much since, it is all these silly things. Is this what we get for being the most hated team in Britain?

It's actually a very positive interview.

"I didn't play in the past weekend but Ferguson told me it was just so I could rest. He's an incredible coach and without doubt the best in the world," De Gea told Cadena Ser.

De Gea also believes he has learned a lot already in his short time in England, admitting it is more professional than Spain

"What I have learned since the summer in England is more than most of my professional career in Spain," added De Gea.

"It is another world in all of the concepts."

He's improved a lot, one of the best compliments you can get is to have your threads get really boring. He's done his job and fit right in. I think we're going to have a top class goalkeeper for a very long time.

Great choice, SAF.

If anything, the boy should be applauded for the many times he's got us out of jail. I hope that if he makes a mistake, people will remember what he's done for us thus far before jumping on his back. He's silenced his critics by none other than being himself and not allowing himself to get caught up in the frenzy.

Seems like we won't be suffering like we did when we lost Schmikes. This boy's a gem for sure. I still have that wonder save against Stoke play over in my mind every now and then, where he palmed that rocket of a shot from Wilkinson onto the crossbar. Pulsating stuff.

It is quite noticeable in the video that the United lads rally round him when he pulls off a good save.

Great way of building his confidence.

Things seem to have gone quiet on the Big Dave front recently, meaning he's doing a fecking pretty fine job.

Commanded his area well today.

I love you Big Dave <3

Only managed to catch the second half today, which was fairly uneventful but I did notice he's looking a lot more confident in his box and dealing with crosses. Looks like he's settling in well and the rotation between him and Lindegaard is probably helping that.
