I'm starting to forget we have a kid playing in goal and just regarding him as our keeper who I don't really worry about. In a couple of seasons he'll be feckin' amazing.

8 - David de Gea is the only keeper to have made 8+ saves and kept a clean sheet in a PL game this season (today and 22nd August). Hero - Opta

Great victory in a very difficult stadium!! The team worked very well... We need to keep in this form! - De Gea

Also... did the cameraman cut to his girlfriend in the crowd? (Round 89-90th min)

I take it you mean the blonde not the geezer

Is making the early season criticism look laughable now.

Was someone not going to do an in depth analyse on each of his performances game by game?

I've got a bit of a memory like a sieve so it would be a good read as I cant quite put my finger on the game when he stopped looking like a keeper bound to make a mistake

He's been very assured for a number of weeks now albeit I do feel he should of saved Dzeko's second in the derby

I think the early criticism has helped him. Teams thought they could take potshots at him and make him nervous, but getting so many good saves in has done him the world of good.

He'll be like Gomes, though. One wee slip and the press will be after him again.

If he's going to end up like Gomes then we've got problems, not nearly enough was made of Gomes' gaff's in fact his early Spurs form was just forgotten by many

There can't have been too many keepers that were this good, aged (just about) 20.

Dunno it does seem like it's a trait of Spanish keepers, both Casillas and Reina were very young when they were playing first team football for Real/Villarreal/Liverpool as well

Has anyone seen how quickly he gets off the ground after making a save? I can bet in future he will make a lot of double saves and even triple saves. He just bounces off the ground and back on his feet after a dive.

The only positive to take from tonight's game really. I liked how the commentary pointed out how good his distribution is.

And by his own standards, his distribution has been mediocre tonight. Which is still good enough to get a mention.

Wonder how long will it take for opposition fans and media to realize he's not the liability that he's painted to be but actually an asset?

Not really, Jones was fantastic and Rooney also had a very good game in midfield which is good to see.

So glad we took the gamble on him. Looks immense already. As mentioned, his composure for someone so young is incredible.

Again I liked what I saw. One commanding punch clear in the second half that stood out. Pinging goalkicks out like a bearded Scholes.

The lad is starting to look quality in the last few games (ignoring the city result because none of the goals were his fault). Shame on those who doubted the talent because it was obvious from his track record that he was going to come good sooner rather then later.

The critisism was well OTT and exaggerated from the beginning. Now, he's already established and he saved our asses more times than he cost us

indeed. I'm not sure I subscribe to the view that he looked dodgy early season at all. When he made the mistake against West Brom that came from nowhere. He was also clearly fouled a few times when it was reported he flapped at crosses.

The guy seems generally very composed, a damn good quality for a keeper. He's an excellent shot stopper and his distribution both with his hands and feet is timely and accurate. The kid is 20 - he'll be a top player but we'll have to accept he'll make a few more mistakes in the next few seasons. I hope we accept this is inevitable and get behind our No.1 for the long haul.

The save is something we are quickly coming to expect from De Gea but what I liked was his two punches to clear crosses.

First I think we need to accept that De Gea has a preference to punch than to catch -its something he may change in time. However onto the punches - I mentioned this when he first started off for us he was reaching too much with his arms and not jumping high with his body. Watch the punches again he really gets off the ground both knees tucked in and he has a solid base to get a good punch in where the punch is level to his head ie meaning he hasnt had to punch upwards.

The reaction of the fans have been positive all the way despite a difficult start. I wish that would be the case for other players as well

I've stopped being worried that someone else as Van der Sar is now our goalkeeper. Sometimes I even forget this lad is only 20 years of age. After a couple of errors at the start he's been top-class standard... if you stop noticing your goalkeeper he must do a lot of things right, especially seeing all the constant changing of our back line.
