I still havent taken to him yet if I am being honest. I always fear he is about to make a mistake

He looks dodgy as hell on crosses and doesnt know if he is coming or going.

I am sure that will shock a lot of people, Randy.

I just think its a massive role for such a young keeper. And sorry but he does flap at crosses.

He looks an outstanding shot stopper and I know he will improve.

Those are just clichés about "foreign keepers" that don't reflect what's actually happened to him at United so far.

The only soft goals he's conceded so far have come from failing to stop shots that others might save. As far as flapping at crosses goes, I think he's dropped one so far all season (against Spurs) and I can't think of a single weak punch or failure to get to a ball once he's decided to come for it. He could arguably be accused of a reluctance to come off his line but he's definitely not a keeper who flaps at crosses.

There have been a few occassions where he's come and then changed his mind leaving him in "no mans land" but generall I agree.

Players deliberately obstruct the goalkeeper before set-pieces these days. It's not fouling exactly, but it certainly makes it harder for 'keepers to come out and take the ball in midair.

Another thing that will sound harsh from me but, the bits I saw from him for Atletico and for Spain u21's in the summer he seemed almost faultless in everything he did.

I just wonder at times if he has at times been a tad overwhelmed being the Utd keeper.

Again I have great faith in him but I certainly dont see him as the complete article yet. Like CW says above he has been left exposed from crosses when he gets caught in staying on his line or coming for the ball

One might argue that's just your nervous disposition.

Also, being only 20, he can hardly be the complete article. But the ingredients are there in abundance, and we bought/buy potential. 20 year-olds don't play in goal for big teams (Atletico Madrid is not a little team, you know) unless they've something about them.

True. If you watch our very own Chicharito, you know what I mean

He is amazing. In two years he'll be amongst the world's best.

It's interesting that three best goalkeeper this season are all very young. Krul, Chesney and DDG.

Well of course he's not the complete article yet. He's only 20 years old.

I think he's, weirdly, probably my favourite player of the under 25s-established players.

Watching him grow, game by game, just makes me love him more and I think - perversely- everyone is enjoying, despite the hairy cross moments, watching him growing into the jersey. Of course errors will occur, but I think the sheer natural talent is there for all to see - plus his kicking is absolutely delicious

Big fecking Dave

He's clearly still learning the art of dealing with crosses and it's going to take a long time until his decision making gets to the stage he does it naturally. But he's already improved a lot in a very short space of time so it's looking very good. He also got over the wobble he showed in his shot stopping, which is terrific. Delighted with him.

Did I just see that? De Beard is gone? This is a more important story than SAF's stand!

He comes into one of the top sides in europe at the age of 20, and has slipped in rather good. Yet the press act as if he is a 30 year old veteran who looks "very shakey". If I were 20 and signed multi-million deal to play for us, I'd probably sit my pants/shorts everytime the ball came into our half.

Hats off to you DDG to be fair, and Happy Birthday.

I'd have love to see him thrown in against England anyway, would have been a nice easy debut for your country.

DDG alread in the top 5 prem GK

Cech
Reina
Friedel
DDG
Krul

Best shot stopper is Ali Al Habsi - anyone see his crazy saves against Wolves? He pulls off excellent saves every match. I remember his heroics against Arsenal a few seasons back.

Cech has been absolutely awful this season. He should be no where near the list of 'top' keepers. How many times has he been beaten at his near post? At least two times against Arsenal.

If Swansea stay in the PL a few seasons and their keeper continues to make those quick reaction saves, he could become the best shot stopper in the league...his reactions are amazing at times!

Its hard to rate De Gea any higher than Chesney.

I think almost all non Utd fans would actually say chesney is the better keeper right now.

Surely you have to agree that there isnt much between them at the moment?

Shot stopping and handling I'd say they are at a similar level. De Gea has better agility, distribution, temperament (although he has had lapses in concentration this season) and pedigree. Szczesny his bigger and more commanding at the moment, each has strengths and weaknesses so I'd agree they are at a fairly similar level but De Gea is honestly slightly ahead. Just my opinion, Im sure people disagree with me.

I'm just stating that most fans haven't seen a great deal of him before he signed and he's still settling in. Szczesny has been in the PL for 2 seasons.
