Made a mistake by not clearing the ball and overplaying, put that down to inexperience more than anything. I hope he doesn't start hoofing it permanently now but he needs to find the right balance and not overplay it.

I doubt he'll do that, he was bought for his distribution. Jones put him in a few tight spots tonight and hopefully both of them will learn.

I don't blame players for trying to play the right way though.

"Lawro" said De Gea has made a large error every single time he has watched him this season. "Lawro" in general, is a huge error.

At fault for the goal but the back pass wasn't the best. I doubt he will let this affect his game, keep passing it out as he has done so successfully before.

Well its the first game his mistakes have cost us. He was trying to overplay it when a good hoof would have sufficed. I don't think it will affect him

feck the media, apart from a shaky start he's been fabulous when called upon, the improvement game by game is tangible. The media will be pricks by having a go at him for the 2nd goal but you won't see them rushing to gang up on Cech for Liverpool's first goal will you?

Former Liverpool player in being overly harsh on young Utd player? Surely not.

Surprised he wasn't watching Liverpool tonight, oh, wait......

Lindengaard hasn't put a wrong foot forward in my opinion. But he doesn't come with name recognition. Hard to bench De Gea after that gaft - he needs to keep his confidence up. Keeping is all about confidence, especially at a young age.

we still had ample time to defend it - harsh on Dave

doubt they'd've scored if Vidic had been on

He messed up, but we all knew these mistakes would happen as he's still yong & lerning.

I would be alot more pissed if this happened in the league. Actually, I'm not even pissed. Sad, but true.

what exactly would Vidic have done in this situation? I'm a De Gea fan but it was a poor kick out that left the defence exposed, Vidic or no Vidic the attacking team was always going to be favourites in that situation.

It was a poor kick but with him always choosing to pass the ball out instead of hoofing it you're always going to get the odd one that goes astray.

Nothing to worry about, his kicking has been one of his biggest pluses so far. He'll learn.

That's it, David, you'll have to give up & head back to Spain; Lawro, King of Punditry and Predictions, has delivered his damning verdict on you.

I am afraid thats a poor kicking and a bad mistake ...it stupid to throw away leads like this.

It is what it is mate. No point hiding about it. These things happen but it shouldn't change how we feel about him being no.1. Nor should we start to lose confidence in him. The boy has already shown that he does well with adversity and I'm sure that he'll be fine.

Being a keeper, it's not always about the mistakes you make. It's more about how you respond to the mistakes you make. This boy is very mentally strong and it will stand him in good stead for his duration here.

I doubt Vidic would have not got anywhere near the ball again after a poor back pass. It was a bad clearance but I still can't work out how the player that intercepted it had a free run to the edge of our six yard box.

DDG seems to have escaped scrutiny and rightly so in my view. He's really blossomed since the early part of the season and you can see the improvement in his game.

The pass out by him was an example of the type of silly buggery you see from young players - get used to it lads and ladies, because we've got a feck load of talented, young players coming through.

DDG has already shown that he reacts well in adversity, so have no worries about him moving forward.

Jones switched off.

Bad kick yes, and de Gea is to be blamed for the goal. But once again he was assured, he's saved us so any times already this season, his kicking has been great, and now he's starting to come confidently for crosses as well.

Will be a top, top goalkeeper for years to come.

Is he back to being the Spanish Taibi in the media's eyes?

You make it sound like that’s unfair, Fact of the matter he has played for Utd for under 4 months and has made 3-4 big errors which have led to goals. Anything a keeper does wrong is highlighted far more and in general leads to a goal conceded and that he plays Utd will always mean he gets more attention from the press.

He is young, not the finished article and obviously will turn out to be a great keeper. But right now he can be a bit of a worry.

Of course it's unfair. He's been excellent this season, despite having far too much action. Not one of his "mistakes" have been calamitous blunders either. Even last night there were other players who could and should have bailed him out. Even VdS miscued the occasional clearance. It's very rare to be punished like that for a clearance that was intercepted that far from goal.

Exactly. It was a pretty shit clearance, but it's not like he kicked it to an opposition player six yards out and clean through on goal. There was plenty of opportunity for the defence to rescue the situation.

He has done well but made high profiled errors. He was an £18m very young Goalkeeper going to a huge club. Everything he does is going to be scrutinised. We all knew that if he made early mistakes the media would be on his back. And that is what has happened

Yeah, but the facts are the following:

-> cost us the Community Shield against City - NOT
-> cost us the three points at the Hawthorns - NOT
-> cost us the three points vs. Arsenal at home (some argued he should've saved Walcott's goal) - NOT

The only error that led to goal that mattered was the one yesterday, and even then Berbatov, Fabio and Young have to take some of the 'blame' as well as they couldn't finish some easy chances. And don't get me even started about the 'defending' after the clearance, what the heck was Jones doing...

So, in fact he 'cost' us a win in a Champions League group game we should've won regardless, after playing so well for two months most of us didn't even notice anymore that we have a 21-year old kid in goal. So yes, the criticism is beyond a joke.

He wasn't helped out by Rio refusing to make a decision of any sort either. Obviously he wanted to stop them playing it across for a tap in but at some point he should have moved to cut off the player instead of neither being one nor the other.

On the contrary the media seem more intrigued by his musical taste.

Rio was hung out to dry though. If he had closed down the player on the ball he'd have left at least one (possibly two?) players completely unmarked in the present. Impossible situation for him. The bloke dribbling into the box should have been closed down by Jones. Once he was allowed to carry the ball as long as he did we were fecked.

He was and I'm not suggesting he would have stopped it, but at least it would have put them in two minds as to what to do. As it turned out they all but walked it in. Once it got to the point where he was pretty close to goal he should have made a decision, IMO; go to the ball carrier or cut off the pass to the other player(s) and hope he missed. Instead he did neither and sort of seemed to be defending the goal line which didn't give him a particularly high chance of success.

Okay, time for some positivity. What's the verdict on our David so far?

IMO he's looking like an absolute top keeper in the making. Great reactions, and bar a couple of blips which should be expected, he's been safe as you like. Starting to show more authority in the area as well, and his command of the defence will only get better as his English improves.

Has saved our bacon a couple of times, and has the best feet of any keeper I've seen(and that includes VdS).

So, what do you think? I think it looks like we've hit the jackpot. World class keeper in a year or two IMO.
