So, almost October. As an ex-keeper, good saves tend to stick in my memory. Was just trying to remember if he's made any special saves so far this season. Pick of the bunch probably the Moses header but it was straight at him. Can't think of anything really special. Which is a little odd when you compare him with keepers at the other big team, who have all made some cracking saves. Has he just been unlucky that every shot has picked out a corner? Should we expect more from him?

Genuinely curious. I really rate him but it is a bit odd that we seem to conced with every clear shot on our goal. Anyone know how his shot:save % compares to the best of the rest?

Can't fault him for any of the goals conceded, maybe one. He made some good saves vs Swansea iirc.

His save percentage in the Premier League this season is 66.7%, but that doesn't put things into context, nor does it do him justice this early on in the season. Against Swansea, his save percentage was 83.3% (six saves). He made a good save to prevent us from going a goal down. Against Chelsea, it was 100% (four saves). He made some very good saves. Against Liverpool, his save percentage was at 80% (five saves). He made an excellent save towards the end. And against Crystal Palace, he faced no shots on goal. It's clear that he has received some excellent protection from the defence. His save percentage went down massively in the last two games: against Manchester City, it was 20% - and to be fair, we'd be harsh if we expected him to save any of City's goals - and today, against West Brom, it was 20%.

There was the shot in the Capital One Cup from Henderson, too. I don't think it's particularly odd at all, I think other goalkeepers have had more work to, the shots have been much tougher to handle. For instance, I don't think he's had a Szczesny vs Fulham type of match yet this season, but that's because of the circumstances we have found ourselves in. We have conceded quite a number of goals from crosses and counter attacks, so it's very hard to adjust to that.

Yeah, he's definitely not conceded any soft goals. Just done nothing exceptional. One of those saves you wouldn't expect him to make. It seems as though every single defensive error we make ends up in a goal conceded. While other teams are occasionally getting bailed out by their keeper. Not reading anything into it yet. A small sample of games so far.

Ask an Everton fan..

I only just realized that Steele had left. Shows how much attention I've been paying post SAF. Crazy stuff that is, he built De Gea into who he was at the end of last season..

But I guess we move on and support. I had been thinking 'something is different' when seeing him camped in his six yard box a few times this season.

I still can't judge his performances this season. Like somebody mentioned earlier every error our defense make ends up in the net and every time I think he could have saved that then naaaah Rio you toooooool..

I thought he could have been better position for the one on one against WBA. It was as though he always has to stay really deep then was out of position. It's not a case of 'you fecked up there dave' it's more of a case of 'you're not playing with your head in the game'. Or something?

He wasn't adaptive in that situation. Coming and having a feel for the fact that someone might come through. But of course it's not a criticism. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

He was one on one, 4 yards out from goal, he barely stood a chance.

There was that save from the West Brom free kick in the weekend. That was class.

Barcelona won't be spending £30m+ on a keeper. They didn't do that for a defender this summer when they needed one. It will be ter Stegen or Reina for them. De Gea may move there, but that will be many years down the line, if at all.

FCBarca reckons his passing isnt good enough for them.

Think he was only saying that because he thought that their was never a chance of him joining them.

Scoff all you like, when you're the best passing team in history, the standards are higher. I like De Gea, followed him and talked him up here at the Caf before many even knew who he was and ahead of his transfer when most were lamenting VDS' retirement.

Victor is ideal, De Gea is not a poor option just not who I would prefer

I hope your board feel the same about him too!

Name a goal-keeper who is a better passer? I just want to know

The problem is, atm, there is no ideal alternative to Valdes. There are pros/cons to any of the rumoured targets. De Gea is not someone I would put at the top of my wish list but he'd certainly be in my list

These past 2 seasons, my board has done one stupid thing after another. No telling what they will do next

I think De Gea's passing has been a little disappointing, so that's a fair point. In terms of keepers in the league who are better with the ball at their feet I'd go with Michel Vorn for a start. De Gea has brilliant accuracy kicking from out of his hand (reminds me of Reina here) but when it comes to passing it around the back, on the deck, he's not as good as I was hoping he would be. He's definitely a level below Valdes. I think this will improve, though, from various youtube clips of him fecking about in training you can see he's got decent 'tekkers'

Who would you rank above him for the needs and style of play of Barcelona? With that in mind, would you prefer a better footballer in goal over a better shot stopper?

Reflexes, especially having to confront 1v1 encounters and positionally astute on set pieces. Must have unwavering confidence. Size is not essential but I prefer a keeper perhaps a bit taller than Victor. Playing the ball at his feet, must be absolutely confident on the ball

Reina, Ter Stegen, Guzman, Lloris, Courtois, De Gea and Diego Alves would all be on my list

I'd say the bolded parts are De Gea's strongest suits. Perhaps his confidence could be improved, and that will come with experience. I think his style may be exactly what Barca would look for in a goalkeeper. But hopefully they have options ahead of him so they leave him alone!

Terrific save tonight, nice improvisation with his feet on that corner at the end as well.

Brilliant save and he's now getting the credit he deserves.

Not sure about his kung-fu kick at the end

Hope he gets a new contract this season, his performances deserve it.

Outstanding save. As Big Pete said, kept us in the game. 2-0 down at that point would've been a disaster.

That save in the first half was out of this world.

That Kung Fu kick at the end....well that nearly gave me a heart attack.
