How is Lloris even in the discussion? He's being rotated at a perennial Europa League side and has dropped far off his early promise at Lyon. There were days when Aulas would scoff in the media at even entertaining a £25m bid for him and he's sold him to Spurs for a third of that.

Cech's not the player he used to be and Hart is too prone to the odd clanger to be up there just yet.

Lloris is quality, just walked into a tricky situation where AVB can't just bomb out Friedel for no reason.
Once he gets in for good, that will be seen.
Like DDG, also not quite at the level of Buffon etc yet but possibly will be, Courtois, Ter Stegen and possibly Zoet at PSV. Need to see but more of last one though.

I really like Akinfeïev if we're talking about top GKs, even though I don't get to see him play enough. When I do though, I'm always very impressed. Seems confident and is also a great shot stopper.

Malafeïev also seems to be pretty decent.

David de Gea insists he is happy at Manchester United and is not looking to return to Spanish football, despite reported interest from Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old joined United from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, but has yet to fully cement his position as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

He has been sharing the goalkeeping duties with Anders Lindegaard again this season and that has prompted speculation De Gea could try to leave.

Reports have claimed that Real are lining up a swoop for De Gea to become the long-term replacement for Iker Casillas at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, De Gea has no problems fighting for his position at United and is not seeking a move back to his homeland.

"I am happy at United and not thinking about a return to Spain," De Gea told The Sun.

"I've accepted the challenge to learn and improve as a professional. And fighting for my place gives me a bigger incentive to play well."

Not surprised. His display against Newcastle told me one thing, the guy has bollocks. Did not hide when it would have been the easier thing to do. Good attitude.

Good news. He can be a great player for us. I think the problem is that people either hugely overate him or severely underrate him. As can be seen from the number of people who think he is a top ten keeper in world football. Then there are others who can't look past one or two mistakes and the fact that he is occasionally dodgy at coming for high balls (although he is improving in that respect which is always encouraging). The truth is he is probably one of the top three young keepers in the world with tremendous potential.

It seems as if people forget that he is a baby in goalkeeper terms. Schmeichel was playing in Denmark until he was 26! I can't really think of any goalkeeper who was ridiculously consistent around Davids age except maybe Cech and Buffon. He is without doubt an amazing shot stopper and will be brilliant once he gains more experience and it all comes together for him

Exactly. If he's patient he'll be our undoubted no 1 soon enough, and certainly for long enough a period.

That save from Torres's header

Barring that one miskick he has been (and has needed to be) superb so far. Think he will have a busy second half

Didn't get a replay of that save because eventually Chelsea scored from the pressure. It looked outstanding. fecking Rooney fouling Hazard!

Brilliant. The save from Torres was incredible. Did well to stop Mata after his own poor clearance.

Took a superb free kick to eventually beat him. Hopefully he has little to do in the second half.

He tried to do the same what he had done last season, but unfortunately, Mata avoided it and scored a great goal.

Good game with some great saves so far. Chelsea's goal has been coming, so no surprise and Mata's free-kicks are always excellent.

Poor positioning for the free kick. Couldnt see the ball at all.

If there's 15 players standing in a line with a tiny gap then it's pretty difficult to see the ball...particularly when one of our players is pushed and further obscures the view the moment the ball is struck. Not much he could've done in terms of positioning the wall from that distance when Chelsea are piling their players in already.

It was a perfect free kick. Not a single goalkeeper could've done anything.

You set the wall up to cover one side of the goal. If you subsequently get beaten on the side you are supposed to be covering, it's poor.

Just watched the save from the Torres header again. Un-fecking-beleiveable save!

Superb performance.

With the controversial decisions I doubt he'll get the praise he deserves for this performance.

Some amazing saves today with the feet and the gloves.

You can always make a great highlight reel from his performances.

That one bad kick aside, he was absolutely superb. He just has the ability to earn points for you through his reactions alone. There was a real chance we could have lost it all today.

as Gary Neville said last season, he always thinks the goalkeeper should do better. Goalkeepers would generally defend him for taking a step.
