DDG's transformation has been immense this year. At the start of the season, could you nearly match (non-scientifically) the pattern of goals conceded with the gk who played.
His improvement has allowed the CBs to relax and play as they should ala VDS. Compare that to how he started the season ala Barthez.

The first big save (from Hoilett) looked more Hollywood than it had to because I don't think de Gea anticipated quite how much curve there was and how much the ball was going to come back towards the centre of the goal, so he ended up saving it fairly close to his body as opposed to at full stretch.

It wasn't really a showmanship thing, it was a better safe than sorry thing.

He is showing real class right now. Such as boost to think we have a player that young in goal who you feel is going to be top draw when he's matured.

Let's not get carried away, he's only the best goalkeeper in Manchester.

I thought that was a better save than he got credit for, it was curling into the net and look at how strong his wrist was and where the ball ended up afterwards.

I've noticed he does have really strong wrists.

I must say, he's winning me over, big time.

"david de gea made three fantastic saves to keep us in the game," said ferguson. "although we had all the possession, we couldn't create the openings to get in front.

"javier hernandez hit the post and we had a penalty kick claim - i didn't think it was - so david has done his bit for the team.

"he has really grown in stature the boy. He was outstanding."

:)

I wonder if people still think we fecked up by not getting Neuer.

I'm sure they do, never mind that he's been absolutely integral to our push for the title over the past few months and the fact that we probably didn't have any chance of getting Neuer anyways.

Interesting to think about is that compared to Neuer, one of the other "young" alternatives, De Gea will have four seasons with us under his belt before he's as old as Neuer would've been if we'd signed him last summer.

I'm fairly confident he'll bring us a lot of joy through those four seasons (well on his way already), and by that time he'll probably be regarded as one of the best in the world by everyone (call it a hunch).

Fergie may have got it right, once more.

Didn't have much to do. What he did he did well ... a little needless flash but hey whatever. Pedants Corner: the missed punch (which led to one of the three saves he had to make), and the quickly taken goal-kick straight out.

Well done. Nothing really to see here. Next.

feck. Ing. Hell.

He seems really close with our goalie coach (Steele?). Nice to see, hopefully he won't be swayed when (inevitably) Real or Barca come calling.

I don't think he would join Real due to his links with Atletico. Unfortunately he'd be perfect for Barca when they need to replace Valdes, but hopefully De Gea remains with us his entire career.

He's been great. And now imagine him behind Vidic dealing with the majority of aerial balls with ease like he does

You missed the game then?

Are you and GB the same people with different accounts or something? I just don't know how you guys can be so ignorant!

The commentators for the game went on about how De Gea's saves were routine, so perhaps that's the problem.

Steve Kean sounded quite impressed with De Gea, conversely.

and when Hart makes similar quality saves they can't stop talking about how he's one of the best goalkeepers in the world, while when he makes a mistake they ignore it or talk about how he is young and improving..

people need to stop following conventional wisdom and form their own opinions.

I'm sorry but if anyone thought that Holiett's shot was easy to save needs to play someday as a goalkeeper.

It looked quite easy but it was because precise positioning.

I think we can take Fergie's word on this one, as posted above:

You are some character Maroon, you're not easily pleased are you?

You won't have to fear us for this young lad I'm afraid, seeing as he's from Atletico and all. But yeah, in football you never know unfortunately.

Casillas and Valdes also both have a lot left in them. When they go out some kid who's 12-14 now will replace them. Spain keep producing this talent. They produce everything but full backs but then again no nation besides Brazil really does.

France disagrees.
