David de Gea | 2011-14 Performances

Yeah he's put in a few great performances and points winning saves this season. As with Foster, all that gets forgotten about when he makes a bunch of mistakes as people try to re-write history. Hopefully De Gea has the mentality to continue performing well despite this.

A keeper needs to be able to handle to make it at a club as big as United. Foster wasn't good enough mentally for United.

Pogue mentioned he not seen DDG do a world class save - well that was one.

He seemed to revert into his comfort zone of punching today, which at first looked shaky but as the game progressed you could see the confidence growing in him.

Brilliant, world class save at the end.

No of course not, I have to admit that I don't have a great deal of confidence in De Gea though.

This is ironic considering your username is the player who was at fault for two of Chelsea's goals today.

That was a step in the right direction fair play. His shot stopping was never in question however, today will help his confidence.

this match must have really notched up his confidence.

so much of the media crap was so off the wall.

He is a damn good keeper. we are set for 20 years.

..and to think some were even suggesting we play Amos today.

Do these people really understand the game even?

Really? Show him Atletico against Barcelona a season back, or Stoke City away this season and to a lesser extent Liverpool away back in October.

I wonder if he pre-empted Mata, given they've played together for the Under 21's and so Mata must have practiced against De Gea loads of times.

What gets me is that the kid pulls off one world class save and another pretty good one in stoppage time, to keep the point we fought hard for, and all the TV commentators could say is "that's not the part of the game that there are problems with"...

Yep... there's no problem making saves that most keepers would have no chance of getting near... but that doesn't fit in with our preordained narrative of bashing DeGea so we'll look for a negative lining to this silver cloud... no "well done" or "what a great save(s)"

What Pricks!

What a fecking save. That's one of those saves where, if that had been a different keeper in net, if that had been Lindergaad or Amos, then that would have been a goal.

Keepers make a lot of great saves, but they are saves that other keepers in the same shoes would also make. That save however was something else... and for that, I take my hat off to him.

I dont think he pre-empted Mata. Mata had one real place to put the ball and credit to him he did but De gea reach and reaction was brilliant.

If he can reach like that - then he just needs to hav confidence to do the same when he comes for crosses.

Fantastic save right at the end by Mata's freekick, kept us in the game.

He's made mistakes, so what. He'll make more, he's still to mature and realise his potential. But clearly he has it in him to be such a class goalkeeper.

Sounds terrible. Even the German commentator who's a pretty well known Chelsea fan on Sky today gave him plaudits for that great save.

That save was really something special, I haven't seen anything like it in a few years now. The ball was going to graze both the inside of the upright and underside of the crossbar to nestle in the top corner and looked like it was beyond De Gea, and then out of no where he gets his fingertips to the ball, like superman flying through the air!

He's so obviously talented, I don't see how some people can't see it.

He's adjusting and once he's fully settled he'll like this regularly

The Norwegian commentator mentioned something interesting; when VDS retired he had put on 10-15 kgs of muscles since the CL-final in 95.

When De Gea's bulked up it really could be fun to watch him. As long as he doesn't lose his agility that is.

Seriously superb save. Really was the best time to do something special like that, when it really counted.

If anyone questions this guys ability they really know nothing about football. The number of world class saves he has made while at United is crazy. That save was probably the best of the lot. He started on the opposite side and got to the ball depite it being destined for the top corner. Incredible. Even VDS or Schmeichel would have struggled to save it.

It would have been a superb goal but the save was unreal. Still can't quite believe it.
