Darts

Far better matches last night and as for Steve Beaton all hail "The Bronzed Adonis" what a performance v Michael Smith. Think the first 2 quarter finals are tonight. Chizzy v MVG and Snakebite v Jackpot. Will post proper line-up later, the other 2 quarters tomorrow suffice to say so much for the young bucks with Taylor, Beaton and King all involved.

Tonight SS1 @ 7p.m the first two quarter finals:

Adrian Lewis v Peter Wright

Michael Van Gerwen v Dave Chisnall

Two absolute belters hope it's good and should be some standard.

It's going to be a belter tonight. Hopefully Chisnall will put up a decent fight against the seemingly unstoppable MvG. The first match is tricky to call, Wright has the game to beat Lewis without a doubt, Lewis didn't convince at all in the last round but I think that was down to Gerwyn Price getting in his head. Wright could do a lot worse than start some mind games!

Picked up, no doubt, but that first handful of legs(the point I posted at), were some of the worst I've seen in ages.
I missed the first session. Sounds like I timed it well. Shame Chizzy hasn't shown up again.

What are people’s thoughts on the Final last night? Phil Taylor is remarkably unlikeable as a person. Best player ever without a doubt and whether anyone in the future will come close to his number of Titles won is debatable, but last night showed once again what a hypocrite he is.
Don’t get me wrong, darts is full of players who complain about other players doing to them exactly what they do themselves, the most common being over celebrating.
Taylor joining in with the crowd last night trying to get the chant going while MvG was throwing was the poorest sportsmanship I have seen in a long time. It’s the kind of thing he would base his whole post match interview around if it happened the other way around. Someone in their mid 50’s who’s played as long as he has and has as many Titles should know better and I hope when he sees it back that he is embarrassed.
I won’t hold my breath obviously but Taylor should apologise for his lack of respect. He knows he’s unlikely to be a tournament favourite again in his career but he needs to deal with that better than he did last night, he’s still the one with 16 World Championships.
Lewis & Price haven’t covered themselves in glory either, lessons to be learned in player behaviour!

I will certainly give my thoughts on this later as I have to head off for a while but last night was sad to see the demise of the greatest ever to pick up a dart. Just such erratic behaviour from a beaten man but lest we forget the hidings and bullying/ ruthlessness he dished out for nearly 26 years to others and inevitably it's being dealt out to him now.

I'm just glad more people are seeing what a cnut he is, and even the pundits can't gloss it over so easily any more.
I didn't see it, but saw some quotes later from Phil saying he'd played all the greats and MVG was the best. It seems like MVG brings out the worst in the other players, probably 80% because of his ability and 20% down to his over-celebrating. I saw him beat Lewis int he semis and Lewis was trying to slow him down so much, which seemed to affect his own game more. They'll try anything to knock him out of his stride, although I'm not his biggest fan, you have to admire MVG's sheer relentless and ability to deliver in the big legs and matches.

Fair point regarding the over celebrating but every single player on the pro circuit is guilty of it. They all complain about players over celebrating against them, then next time you see them play they do exactly the same thing themselves! There aren't many top players can win a leg without giving it the big'un.

A lot do- you don't really say Ando or RVB go totally ape when they win a leg though. There is obviously a massive element of being able to give it, but not take it.

Anderson still has a cross to bear over his match a few years ago with Lewis (I think) where he threw the toys out accusing him of walking back over the oche after he'd thrown, something which was disproved by the replays. Barney has been nothing short of a complete tool on many occasions as well.

:lol:Fair point on Barney- remember all but giving up a few times. Didn't he get booed at the tournament where you need a double to start? Wade is pretty good for an argument too.

Sydney masters on at the moment best of 19 legs quarter finals today.

Taylor v Anderson

MVG v Kyle Anderson

I know Chizzy and Lewis are through and Mathhisen who beat James Wade 6-5 yesterday. Also Snakebite Wright is through, think Barney was beat 6-1 by Kyle Anderson yesterday and MVG threw a 107 avg what we've come to expect.

Am baffled why one of those BBC logo branding ads had Peter Wright throwing darts at a board with the BBC 2 logo getting scared on it. He's Sky?!

MVG v Taylor has been very strange MVG is 0/5 on throw and is only 6-4 down that's right 1 hold of throw in 10 legs

Looking a combo of Ando & Wade v Taylor & MVG in the semis, unless Wright can pull it out the bag versus MVG.

:lol:Taylor shanked the double 12 for a nine-darter so badly it was incredible. Even he was laughing.

Well done to the Power not many will beat MVG twice so emphatically twice in the space of 24 hours, enjoyed the matches and looking forward to the Grand Prix in Dublin starting next week. From here on in tournaments coming up faster and plenty of them.

Phil Taylor been saying that these are the best darts he's ever had. Right time to come bang in form with Grand Prix next week, Grand Slam in November and World Champs at the end of the year. (Not entered players championship so far)

Well played Phil (am watching on delay to spare the missus). I've not always been his biggest fan, but was willing him on there. Fantastic performance and two wins over MVG in quick succession shows he isn't done yet. First TV major in nearly two years?

Taylor isn't right upstairs. His interviews make for excruciating television.
:confused:He was right enough to batter MVG. It's been a bit of a love-in with the BBC these last couple of days, but no idea what you are referring too. It's only really Wade that does particularly weird interviews and his problems have been well documented.

Did you not catch his interview after he won this afternoon? Such a bizarre bloke. Going out of his way to talk over the presenter every time he opened his mouth, speaking over Nicholson and making completely off-topic, random jokes that had nothing to do with the interview. This isn't irregular, I find him difficult to watch at the best of times, but if I were in charge I wouldn't let him anywhere near a microphone.

Tbf, I think it was just cringey banter in the afternoon with the presenter. They'd been 'goading' each other all tournament. It's weird Nicholson asking him questions- it's the equivalent of Liam Miller attempting to grill Keane after a massive pressure match.

That's what he is for me, just a huge ball of cringe. Obsessed with talking about money and unbelievably patronising to boot. Cracking player, mind you.

As for Nicholson, and I agree with you generally, but I didn't think he was too bad in the comms box. Apparently he does it quite regularly at the smaller events so perhaps one to keep an eye one.

I agree that watching Phil Taylor get interviewed is always horribly cringey. He makes life tough for the interviewer by often ignoring the question and just rambling on about whatever he feels like.

To be honest I find Gary Anderson hard to listen to in interviews as well. And Adrian Lewis gives me the creeps. I'm struggling to think of a current top player who interviews well.

All I know is from being at the semi-finals at the Grand Prix in Dublin when Taylor is on the atmosphere is something else no matter who else is on or if he wins or loses you can see the crowd numbers begin to rise to capacity as in people who came to see Taylor only. However Dublin hasn't been kind to him and the year I went he got it off the crowd and Lewis beat him.

Jame Wade and defending champ Robert Thornton both out in the 1st round, Jenkins beat Wade and Peter Griffin beat Thornton
Lewis beat Klaasen
RVB beat King
Van der pas beat Price
K Huybrechts beat White
K Anderson beat Reyes
G Anderson beat Caven

Eh, Caven is playing Whitlock tonight:confused: That jammie dodger match was dull.
Think this needs a round or two to get going, as ever.

Joe Cullen played Whitlock

Seve West is doing better then I thought he would
