Darts

Didn't know he had left tbh. Only thing I've seen of him in ages is his Metro column.

The women's darts final is a reasonable standard tbf. Nowhere near the men's obviously, but they stick the odd 180 in and aren't too bad at doubles. Nearly been a couple of big ton plus checkouts, just a few too many 60s, 59s and 41/45s dragging the averages right down. They've both just slung in 180s in this leg.
It's really odd that they play less sets.

Because there really no reasoning be hide it, it's not like in tennis where the argument that because the men's serves are generally faster and harder so it means the turn over of games is quicker so overall the match lengths are the same (Although I don't buy that reasoning myself).

It seems the only answer is someone said 'Ah now come on now ladies we know your a bit crap but here have a quick go so you don't feel left out'

I know what you mean. Bobby George was dismissive of Colin Murray's suggestion that increasing the length of the matches could help improve the standard. 'The format suits them,' the patronising git.
Maybe they think that if the matches were longer people wouldn't watch it, I don't know. One of the earlier matches I saw was pretty tortuous but the final was perfectly watchable. Kind of odd also, given Murray stressing that the women's game is being given equal billing on BBC.
Prize money a bit lame- £12k for the winner and £5k for the runner up. Not sure you could build a career full-time as a woman, which will be the bigger obstacle to the sport improving.

Agree I thought the final was as you said perfectly watchable and even if some of the matches tortuous it's the same with plenty of the men's as well. Be interesting to hear what the women darts players think of it(Same with female tennis players too, although doing some research showed that womens used to be a play 5 set matches)

Also it your right it was odd that they mentioned that women's got equal billing , didn't they play the semi finals and the final within a few hours of each other(Although I might have been watching a repeat they showed earlier) As for the prize fund it's laughable as the winner of men's championship get's £100,000.

It's a horrible thing to say but it really does have the feel of 'Let's give the wives a quick go'.

Not sure if they played the semis the same day or if they were replays, not clear on the BBC website. It is tough though- only really women's tennis that probably matches men's sport in terms of people's willingness to watch it. Even if they did throw money at the sport it would take ages to catch up with the men's game and even then the BDO is way behind the PDC.

Shouldn't laugh at the riots that broke out during an MVG-Whitlock match in Australia, but these sentences made me chuckle.

Images show a man dressed as Batman's sidekick Robin wrestling with an English knight, while security guards try to calm the situation down.

Other pictures show men in Hawaiian shirts and also a gang of Oompa Loompas throwing furniture.

Woah, Wolfie did eight of the nine darter and has hit 14 180s going into the last leg. He could have moved over to the PDC quality-wise, but shame he pathologically hates it.

EDIT: Never been sure about how good Martin Adams is but he was class in that semi. Hit 15 180s- the record for a match is 33, so not far off from the view of his contribution. He wears really horrid rings though.

Apparently 1.7m watched the Taylor-Anderson final, a new record. Overall viewing stats up 25% year on year.

Scott Mitchell hit 21 180s throughout the whole tournament to win the BDO title. Anderson hit 19 in the final alone!

Aimless and rambling. Good final though, not dissimilar to the PDC one.
Yeah was entertaining in the way that it see-sawed and class 158 from Mitchell at a key moment. Wanted it to go to sudden death, but a decent watch.

In response to the comments regarding the womens game, darts isn't like football whereby they know beforehand that the match will last 90 minutes.
I have always defended womens sport and they have every right to be up there contesting their title on live television. However the simple fact is, the standard is such that a best of 13 set match would take too long. With the best will in the world, it would require an entire session dedicated to it and they wouldn't sell the tickets. That might sound harsh, but it's true. Mingling them in with the mens matches is the best way to do it, the crowd are guaranteed to be there and they aren't first or last, so the crowd won't turn up late/ leave early (though a few might choose to ignore it).
I agree that the standard of the womens game is generally good, it's certainly come on leaps and bounds in the last 5 years alone, but anything more than best of 7 and I think you'd start getting frustrated at how long it was taking.

Didn't realise the Masters is on. Blundered into it on ITV4. Easy to miss the tournaments not on Sky cos they are never advertised.
Some good QFs tomorrow afty. Lewis v Wright and Wade v Anderson.
Taylor out already.

Anyone else see Chizzy vs MVG. Has to be the greatest match I have ever seen 108 and 110 avg

MVG is playing lights out at the moment, ridiculous averages and banging in huge checkouts like they're absolutely nothing!

Anyone else watching this no? Haha

There seems to be a pattern to most MVG matches I watch, the opponent can usually stick with him for the first few legs but the constant 100+ visits eventually put too much pressure on and he blows them away. Barney has done well to get to the final here but he looks finished now.

Daryl Fitton has hit a 9 darter in the Dutch Open over in the BDO - someone quickly restore order to the Universe!

Feck, didn't realise the premier league is back. Lewis on fire averaging 112+

Feck 7-1 v Barney and a 113.8 average. Looks like Lewis is back.

Wade should've won that. Good night though. Cool for Ando to win.

That was a bit odd, Peter Wright getting highly emotional after clobbering Taylor.

I know and he had the cheek to call MVG a big baby, and their he was booing like a baby on live t.v
Yeah the final could be interesting. Feck me, Gilding put up a hell of a fight, played brilliantly.

Bit late, but I was watching the Premier League on Thursday and was reminded of how much of a bad loser Phil Taylor is. I can't stand him.

The darts last night was fantastic. Phil Taylor did his best to look like a prick again, and RVB punished him. It was unbelievable.

Am on hols, so I missed but just saw the results. Great win for RVB- he needed that. Had to lol at Taylor losing with a record 115.8 average.
Ando seems bang on form too. Feck knows why Lewis always gash in the prem.

Taylor was 2-0 up in legs and had 125 to win the third. Barney was on 144. Taylor hit bull and 25 so needed the bull. Hit 18 instead leaving double 16. A big feck you to Barney. Barney took out the 144 and then went on to win. Taylor was a bad loser as usual.

Anderson missed a double 12 in the last leg for a 9 darter. There would have been carnage in Glasgow if he had of gotten it.

Yeah I read that on planet darts. Am a big Barney fan but he is a frustrating fecker.
Good on him for nailing the 144. Must have been sweet.
I've liked this prem. Good mix.

Just watched judgement night. Barney v Anderson was excellent. I quite like Wright. Am sure he'll be back next season.
