Weren't Sky's two picks Bunting and Wade?
Solid two picks. Sounds a good line up. Chizzy has earned his place. Kim the outlier but great on his day. Barry is paranoid about Phil retiring and wants to build up potential future stars. Michael Smith would've been an interesting shout.

I'm glad Bunting got in, thought it was a very good 10 myself.

Cracking Final. Delighted for Anderson. But there's a part of me wanted to see Taylor extend his lead in Wold Championships. Kinf of Like how I want to see Tiger catch Nicklaus in golf majors. I don't particularly like Taylor or Tiger, but it's always nice to be able to say you saw the best ever.

That being said, Taylor won't be caught regardless, so yeah, delighted for Anderson.

Who'd you rather have? Toughest on Thornton I'd say. Whitlock has been poor lately.
Bully boy best 100+ finisher in darts and Jelle Klaasen knocked Lewis and Wade out in round 1 in back to back ITV4 tournaments and took Anderson all the way in round 2

Michael Smith would be a good choice in my opinion.
Maybe next year. Not sure he has made a qf yet despite his obvious talent. That Keegan Brown is going to be a major player soon too.

Klaasen was excellent against Ando and is a former world champ and all but he has been gash and done feck all for four years before this tournament. You can't say a couple of good games put him above Thorn? Madness.

I get where you're coming from, but it's kinda why I want Nadal to out do Federer. Federer is a wally; Nadal is class. That's just my opinion of course!

Thorn had his chance last year only won 2/16 and lost 9

If he can play like he did vs Barney at the grand slam, he will be a Major winner soon

Agreed. He's still so young but nearly knocked out Lewis. Don't actually like him- he has a punchable face, but is class.
Harsh on Thorn. He is a battler and has class. He's beaten Taylor in a major final before which tells you everything. Was also a mad alky too but that's another story.

Was a great final. Anyone gonna watch the BDO?

I watched some over the weekend and the standard seems very poor. It's quite obviously the ugly sister of the two and it got to the point where the presenters were even taking the piss.

Taylor, terrible sportsmanship last night.

I only caught the very end - what did he do?

When Anderson won, he turned his back, obviously disappointed but Anderson had to go over and get a handshake - felt like he had to force it.

Taylor strikes me as nice when he wins, but an arse when he loses.

Think that is a gross exaggeration tbh. Taylor was putting his darts down, paused momentarily then came over and congratulated Ando. He also spoke highly of Ando in the post-match interview too. Think people are looking for issues that aren't there.

In all fairness, Taylor was being a bit of a cnut with that little tickle under the chin and all.

Aren't they good friends? That's what was implied at the end with the interviews. Maybe they were having a laugh. A lot of Taylor hate seems to be this mentality where successful people are automatically cnuts, he's had issues in the past but I don't see anything wrong with what he did last night.

The commentator asking if he should just chuck his darts for no score was ridiculous, why would anyone do that in a final? It wasn't his fault it was just bad luck.

The post match bit when he looked disappointed....are people REALLY offended by that? He just lost a World Final, I'd find it more strange if he was dead happy at the end, there's bound to be some disappointment in losing. For contrast when QPR went down the other year and Bosingwa was caught laughing walking off the pitch people said he should be more bothered. Taylor, visibly disappointed gets slated for doing so. It was for about 10 seconds to, when Anderson came round to shake his hand Taylor was laughing and joking with him and was doing the same for the whole post match interviews.

If people don't like the guy fair enough, I've not really got an opinion on him to be honest but some of the stuff people are saying he's a dick for is just weird and I agree with @Jippy it's just trying to complain for the sake of it.

Not saying he should be dead happy but the loser should be the 1st one to congratulate the winner - you never see Nadal having to wait for a handshake whilst Federer is putting his racket away.

Taylor, in my opinion should have shown more class in defeat, anyone can do that when they have won. They are friends (I think) but being a regular viewer of the Darts Taylor does stuff that other players wouldn't - he gets away with it though.

I can see your point but I just didn't think it was all that bad.

Take a tennis comparison, watch their celebrations on big finals, 9 times out of 10 they don't embrace straight away, there is usually a few seconds of celebration. Last night Anderson as celebrating so Taylor didn't interrupt him, he looked disappointed but then was happy to shake his hand and the minute Anderson was at the table with him they were laughing and he congratulated him loads of times. It was no where near the Barney one for example where Taylor was being a dick.

I agree when you see that Taylor does get away with stuff others don't and the reality is that whilst it's unfair it's always going to happen. He's a big reasons darts is as successful as it is today. People who have that success will tend to get a little bit of leeway.

I get this feeling whenever he praises an opponent, it's less sincere and more of a pat on the head.

Usually along the lines of "I didn't play well, and fair play to him he took advantage of that. He's a good lad, isn't he?" "Here's a 10p, now off to the sweet shop with you."

Never is there a plain and simple other guy was better than him on the night(Which in this case Anderson was), always a bit of fortune, or him off game, etc.

I don't think he's on his own in that kind of "praise" most sport people are highly competitive and a lot do criticise themselves. Equally he's asked these questions minutes after an event, there's no time to carefully plan what to see and adrenaline is still running somewhat, a lot of people in that environment would say similar.

He's the best ever, if he's at the top of his game he'd win. Yesterday for example he missed a lot of doubles (the 8 in particular) which cost him the game. He did praise Anderson but he knows at his absolute best he was in a league of his own and no one has come close. I don't think there's a more dominant sportsman around (maybe O'Sullivan comes close when playing at his best.)

Whilst obviously competing against each other it's a unique sport in that you're actually quite isolated. Nothing Taylor does affects Anderson's play really and vice versa, obviously discounting the pressure they put them under. They get a clean slate every shot. If Taylor is at his absolute best he would win so I can see why he blames himself quite a bit.

Arrogance is often a trait that the best have as well. Mayweather in boxing has it, Tiger Woods used to come across fairly smug, Ronaldo. The list goes on however whilst arrogant they do tend to have a point.

I know he wasn't great in the last Premier League but Thornton has been harshly treated there. Hes capable of such a high level as he showed during this world championships (averaged 117 in a couple of sets )

I get the feeling Huybrechts is in there more for the drama he'll create as opposed to ability.

I see i'm not the only one that despises Phil Taylor. Delighted for Gary Anderson, has had a great year, my nerves were in bits watching it last night.
My brother tells a funny story about going to see Taylor do a charity gig in Newbridge a while back. Most people want nothing more than their travel, accommodation and expenses paid. He requested €10k, of which he handed back €1k to the charity. Likewise most agree to throw darts all ngiht and play whoever wants to play. He agreed to play 10 legs, with each opponent having had to raise €1k to play him. He then arrived at the venue, took a plate of food and went to a dressing room on his own, where he wouldn't talk to anyone until the show started. He came out onto the stage - at a charity event, remember - and started boasting, at length, about how he'd won a few grand on a horse. He then a young fella with Down's Syndrome who was apparently really good and mimicked everything Van Germen does. He got a 140 at one stage and Taylor said that they should then count it as a 180. The young fella beat him, went crazy on the stage, high-fiving people and the like, and as he was sitting down Taylor smugly said "Now remember you didn't actually beat me as I gave you that 40". Apparently the crowd didn't have a clue what to think. Then he played a few more games, answered a few more questions (mostly referring to how "very, very, very wealthy" he is) and then fecked off.

Some of that you can excuse, as people probably want something from him everywhere he goes but some of it is just needless.

The lad that owns my local got him over a few years ago and it was one of the maddest nights I've ever had out. He was great craic altogether, bought a few rounds for everyone in the pub too. 5am in the morning things finished up.

Just stuck £90 on Anastasia to beat sherrock in the women's darts @ 1.50. Can't see sherrock winning, looked shakey as hell yesterday and only won because the other lass bottled it, wasn't really hitting her doubles. Anastasia looked much better, and has been here and done it all before so the nerves won't get to her.

Bloody hell I've never bet on women's darts!

Colin Murray back on the BBC?
Didn't know he had left tbh. Only thing I've seen of him in ages is his Metro column.

The women's darts final is a reasonable standard tbf. Nowhere near the men's obviously, but they stick the odd 180 in and aren't too bad at doubles. Nearly been a couple of big ton plus checkouts, just a few too many 60s, 59s and 41/45s dragging the averages right down. They've both just slung in 180s in this leg.
