Darts

Favourite:

1. Eric Bristow. Grew up following him he was one of my 2 sporting heroes with McEnroe. Won all his titles in fields that contained everyone before the split.
2. Richie Burnett. Madman who was the best in the world at one time even with Taylor in his pomp. Fills Pot Noodles when on tour from radiators.
3. Jocky Wilson. What a legend and as individual as you could ever see.
4. Alan Evans. Should have won the big one maybe it came too late was a great player and entertainer.
5. Gary Anderson - a joy to watch when in form.
6. Adrian Lewis - the biggest waste of ability to be very harsh as he did some great things but should have done more.
7. Bob Anderson - Legend who cleaned up at The Masters when there was no seeding.
8. Peter Manley - -the best Wind up merchant in the game.
9. RvB - The best action in the game still and has to be in for THAT final.
10. Phil Taylor - just for what he did not who he is.

Greatest:

1. Eric Bristow
2. Phil Taylor
3. RvB
4. Jocky Wilson
5. Gary Anderson
6. MvG
7. Bob Anderson
8. John Lowe
9. Richie Burnett
10. John Part

Next 10 could change order every day. I like Wade but he's not won the big one.

Littler will soar up that list it just depends how far.

:lol:The Asset was such a knob wearing his shades indoors all the time and sitting on the stage when Taylor did his walk on .

Tricky and it's obviously changed over time and I'll probably change my mind by tomorrow.. I'm also not including Taylor, despite everything he achieved and him the fundamental reason darts is where it is today. I didn't care for him too much when I met him one time, but obviously doesn't detract from his legacy. Humphries and Littler obviously streets ahead and great watches, but I struggle to root for either much.

1-Peter Wright: Everyman hero. Climbed from journeyman almost quitting to nearly man, having issues with choking, to double world champion and multiple major winner. Showman, brilliant player who destroyed everyone during some of his best tournament wins, eg first world title and world matchplay, averaging 104+ through the tournament. Sad seeing him now.

2-Gary Anderson: Likeable no nonsense player, veers between not giving a shit to clearly caring a lot about the sport. Most naturally gifted player too, adaptable, and 2015-16 and 2018 was phenomenal.

3-Michael Smith: Three is probably way too high, but peak Smith is one of the best watches in darts, similar to Lewis back in the day. Shame he's patchy as hell and his lows can be poor too. Thought he'd build more on the GSOD and Worlds wins.

4-James Wade: Amazing durability and ability to eke out improbably wins, often with spectacular finishes. His form lows can be real barrel-scrapers, but overcome a lot to stay in the top 16 and still the third most successful PDC player ever (for now).

5-RVB: Most fluid throw and peak Barney immense to watch. Brilliant highs winning PDC worlds, prem, masters etc...Frustrating when he gave up pretty much in matches though.

6-10: Some blend of Robert Thornton (beating peak Taylor and MVG to win his majors despite being a massive alky), Peter Manley (original double-double showman), John Part (classy player), Whitlock (original checkout king), MVG (he's grown on me, and his achievements and longevity now are second only to Taylor, even if he can he a dick at times).

Honourable mentions to peak Lewis, Jose and Bunting. I'm sure I forgot loads
Very interesting and just great to get some darts conversations going prior to the Ally Pally.
Will give my input soon but peak Anderson was pure silk on throw.
That Ally Pally moment still sticks out Wade v Lewis last match of the night. Wade was coasting then Lewis said there was a draught side of stage and effected everything and think Lewis came back to win it.
Characters so many of them.
Jocky Wilson, Bob Anderson who was one of my favourites a real horse at the World's for the walk on even though he was petrified of them.
Bristows cocky nonchalant brilliance, Lowes quiet unassuming ways yet an unbelievable player.

Watching it again you can tell by his face he knows it was a mistake to even do this, that his lie would easily be found out  silly fat bastard

Just managed to hit a 150 checkout to win a match that was at 2-2! :D Opponent was on a finish and everything! By far my best ever achievement on the board (I’m crap).

Great stuff Which way? I'd probably try D15 when the first one goes in T20.

The Wade v Lewis draft episode was memorable. Wade should've said play, but he was noticing too, though he was still 5-1 up from memory. Terrible he blew that lead.

The Ando 180 on the floor was a classic. Especially how pissed off he was, being deep into the final at 4-4 against Taylor, then storming back to win the set and go on to win the match. His battering of MVG in the semi was memorable too, given the needle between the two at the time after Ando was so pissed at being knocked out by MVG the previous year.

Before the start of the big one in two weeks time or less would like to know everyone's all time top 20 players and also not necessarily the best but their top 10 favourite players of all time for whatever reason. I'll post both of my lists over this weekend.

Dennis Priestly was a big favorite of mine when the PDC 1st started despite being a slow player I always wanted him to win

James Wade as a fellow left hander

Lewis and Smith their throwing actions so natural and when they play well they were/are great to watch

Of todays players I like Humphries game but he comes across a bit odd outside of the game, Littler of course just a phenom but is he really only 17 has someone checked that out

Beau Greaves is going to Q School in January, if this was last year I would have had Beau nailed on to get a tour card, but she hasn't been as dominant this year.

Yeah Q School is no gimme with the talent coming through though, but good luck to her. She's struggled in the televised tournaments, barring that one good win at GSOD when the pressure was off. Would be interesting to see how she gets on in the tour.

It's officially the start of Christmas tomorrow with the World Champs starting.

I used to love the darts at Christmas but now the crowds are insufferable, the broadcasting is at saturation point and the modern group of players just don't do it for me. I can't stand most of them

I can't stand the whistling going on when players are on doubles. A lot of that comes from on site gambling.

They really should find a way to stop it happening by throwing people out until they get the message.

So it all begins tonight at Alexander Palace.
Outside of the two Luke's who else do people thinkcould go well?Bunting and Gary Anderson especially will relish the set up and set format. Interesting to see Stowe Buntz fares out.

Didn't disappoint, really enjoyed that game.
Was very good from Barry going a set down.
Tomorrow standout matches for me:

Afternoon session Watemina xs Wade

Evening session :
Menzies vs Gates
*Barry vs Price

Interested to see how Soutar goes as he didn't qualify last year but had a great run the year before.

Kinda tough draw for De Decker if Woodhouse beats Ilagan this afternoon - went to the semis in the European Championship two months ago, not a lot of players playing today capable of that.

Took to the 7th leg in the Soutar V Gotthardt game to be a hold of throw, even that took Soutar to miss 2 darts to make it 7 breaks in a row. A very scrappy game.

I fancied Watamena to win that, he has seemed to have found an extra level to his game the past couple of months.
Yep wasn't a shock. It'll go down as a bit of a letdown that Wade never won the big one after all the rest he picked up.
