Darron Gibson - is he good enough for Everton?

I think I'll have chips for tea tomorrow. Haven't had chips in ages.

I'm following him, it's 100% him. He's been quite active even done a Q and A session, all your typical bland question though, but what can you expect with just 140 characters.

Hasn't talked much about United, only interesting thing I remember was him saying Scholes is the best trainer by a mile, which isn't surprising.

Ronaldo recently joined as well, but he's been a lot more formal.

Yeah I noticed that, I thought it was against MUFC rules, though?

I remember something quite a while back about Brown being told to stop, I may be wrong there though.

I think I am in saying that a few of the younger lads are on facebook including Kiko and Morrison, so the rules must have change.

Seems to be him, Darren "The Truth" Bent confirmed it on his page as well.

It's him.

Why should they be banned from social networking? they're bloody normal people. Movie stars and singers have them, so I don't see why footballers can't.

Oh yeah, I only looked at the photos to see if it was really him, didn't take notice of the dates.

Can anyone see Morrison's profile, it's set to private, so I think you need to be friends with him.

Ravel Morrison | Facebook

He was quite active, with social networking sites, he even joined a fan forum, so if that's dormant there still could be a ban. Unless the rules are different for players of that age.

Edit: That's not another Ravel Morrison by any chance, the photo isn't too clear.

Does anyone know if the young players are still on facebook, because I was basing my knowledge on things I read before January.
I know Danny Welbeck is, he's on my Facebook friends list. They change their names to something random, and put their real names on the sides, as a status message or whatever.

Like this -

James Dickinson (Danny Welbeck)

Hasn't posted from there in a year by the look of it. Like his joke about Chelsea being '2 minutes from Rome' though.
That is in it's arse Macheda's page. Have ye even bothered to look at it???

I think he could play an important role for us this year. Sir Alex looks set to give him his chance. He is the type of goal scoring midfielder that many say we lack. The only question is how good he is. 6 goals in all competitions last year was a pretty good return for a youngster. If we don't buy a Sneijder or Oezil in the summer, he will have a big chance to prove himself.

In the ideal environment he can easily become a good squad player. The boy may lack the quality to lead our midfield but he has a good shot, he is fairly strong and he has good passing abilities. Unfortunately for him we are well stocked in terms of tryers.

He cant split open a defence by dribbling & penetrating. He cant spray the ball around like Scholes. He's not quick. Not athletic enough to be box to box

I am not sure what his strengths are besides getting a few hollywood goals? Not a game changer imo.

Nothing changes games quite like goals.

Scholes is still clearly the better player of course. I'm just making the point that goals are what ultimately decide games. When someone starts scoring them regularly enough, you have to take notice of that. I think that having that goal scoring ability is a major positive that gives him a chance at the club.

He's nothing like good enough. Compare him to the previous first team central mids and he wouldn't even make the bench.
But given the current financial situation I think saf is going to try Gibson and fletcher this season backed up by scholes and giggs.

IMHO the fletcher, Gibson partnership would be certainly the weakest midfield in the top 4 possibly the top half of the pl.

It's actually kind of weird how people like to overlook this. They'll criticise Gibson for "not being capable of that defence splitting pass" that might result in a goal, but he is more than capable of smashing one in from 25-35 yards which could be enough to change a game.

If Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or City had Gibson it wouldn't worry me. He's certainly not a player we should be pinning our hopes on...not bad to have in reserve though.

He tackles as well as any of our midfielders except Fletch. He's more mobile than Carrick.

Absolutely, he's clearly not world class. But you need decent squad players who can do a job, and the more of those we can develop through the youth system the better. Look how many average players Rafa bought at Liverpool. Luckily most of ours have been home grown.

:wenger: just as well we've got Scholes, Giggs, Carrick and Anderson, eh?

I mean, what's the point in comparing Fletcher-Gibson with other top four partnerships when one of them is fifth or sixth in the central midfield pecking order? You probably couldn't even name the fifth and sixth choice CMs at rival clubs.

people are being unbelievably dismissive of the importance of scoring goals.
He if can consistantly contribute 15 goals a season from midfield how can he not be considered good enough?

Lampard can't beat a man like modric or play a pass like arteta but he scores 20 goals a year and every team in the world would take him over those other 2 and indeed the vast majority of the worlds other 'fancier' players as a result

If Gibson can maintain his scoring rate he has a great chance of becoming a very important player for us

I don't think he'll make it at OT - one more year and if he doesn't up a gear he's on his bike.

Pretty well the only thing he has going for him is a powerful shot - I'm beginning to think he'll not make a PL side if he goes

If I had to chose between him and Cleverely for a place in the squad then I'd chose the latter. Both can get you goals but I think Cleverley is more all-round.

Cleverley looked a bit too lively and nervy for his first game against Celtic.

I still remember their instant impacts, Ronaldo and Roonery both made in their very first game. You immediately knew they were going to be stars. :(

We are clutching at straws for the likes of chubby Gibbo to hopefully make it.

It wasn't Cleverley's first game. I think it was his third, and he's scored in all of them.
