Darron Gibson - is he good enough for Everton?

Possibly my favourite youtube video of all time, can't stop laughing about it.

Hope we've go one of those weird Barcelona style clauses, just incase he develops fantasticaly.

I am absolutely cock sure we won't need that.

In fact Everton might come back to us after few days asking for the money back.

What was the clip originally about?

The Rooney transfer saga. They were all critical of him wanting to leave and how he could 'feck off' now, when the reporter informed them that he's signed a new contract and the guy went all nuts. Brilliant stuff.

It's probably the funniest thing I ever saw on the caf!

That wasn't actually what it was originally about.

Unfortunately for you, Gibbo, what you think doesnt matter, the manager obviously disagreed.

Still, all the best.

No need to be spiteful! Give the guy a break. He was just honest with his words. I wish him all the best. He may not have made the grade at Manchester United, one of the top 3 clubs in the entire world right now, but he is still a bloody talented football player.

I liked Gibson, yes, he was not quite goon enough, but he always worked hard on the pitch and I loved that rocket right foot of his. And he can tell his kids and grandkids that he played 60 times under the greatest manager that ever lived and scored 10 goals for him too, including a CL semi final!

Im really glad for him that he has found himself a proper prestigious club where we can now see more off him and see his full capabilities more often. I think he will do very well at Everton and be great for them in the training field and dressing room as he takes all the deep United professionalism and habits which have been wired into his DNA with him too. Everton have gotten a steal from us, but I dont mind, we've done alot of good business with Everton down the years and anything we can do to help them be Liverpool city's best team, the better!

Hilarious!:lol: One of the best VDO's Ive seen on here!

Hat-trick please Gibbo ... not that I put you in my fantasy team.

Same report ...

Gibson's former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is backing the Irishman to do well at Goodison Park.

"I think it's a good move for him," said Ferguson.

"He's got terrific ability, Darron, but he knew he wasn't going to be a first-team regular here all the time.

"He played some terrific games for us but unfortunately he got an injury in the early part of the season that kept him out for 10 weeks but he's fit again and it's a good opportunity for him."

Yeah, I thought it was.

Anyway, clarified by ralph250

Afraid it wasn't originally the Rooney saga. The original was uploaded in 2008. Its just about club music with him saying the music was crap in the club before going off on his dance. Was then alterred similar to the Hitler downfall videos for Rooney, no different to the new Gibson one.

Disappointing. I actually thought that happened.

He'll do well for Everton. I think most of us will acknowledge he's a good player...he's just not a united player. Like Ben Foster a step or two down and he'll be a major asset.

He'l be a good player for everton imo. Lower expectations, less pressure. At 1mil, its cracking business for the toffees tbf.

saw the replay of the game. He is still not mobile as usual and pairing with Fellaini is certainly not very good combo for them. Needs to step up if he wants to stamp his mark at Toffees

For all the whining about our central midfield - thank the high heavens that we've not got Everton's.

A Gibson-Fellaini partnership is about as mobile as my disabled 89 year old,wheelchair-using grandmother. Actually screw that, none of them would catch her on the turn.

Gibson at least got something resembling passing quality. Neither Cahill nor Fellaini actually pass the ball well.

But by God they need some energy and drive in there, and they ain't getting it from their soon-to-be pornstar Jack Rod Well.

Carrick's not mobile either, neither is Scholes.

You can't fault a more mobile player like Richardson for leaving the team.

The thing is Scholes doesn't need to be mobile as he creates space for himself even when he's on the ball. Carrick isn't mobile or a great space maker so he needs the likes of Scholes and Giggs to make space for him, then we see the best of him. You can apply the same logic to Rooney in my opinion.

I'm honestly not sure where Gibson fits in to that equation, don't think I saw him play enough to judge well enough.

I really dont agree with this. Carrick is the one who makes the players he partner excel, be it Anderson, Fletcher, Giggsy, Jones, and that is because he is always able to make space for himself for a pass and more importantly, gets in good positions to pick up the ball if his partner loses it, allowing his parnter more offensive freedom.

On the Gibson topic, I would say he is worse at making himself available than a Scholes or Carrick, but better than someone like Fletcher. Conversely, he is less of a dynamo than the latter.

Gibson doesn't make himself available for the ball and when defending, he is just running about without really pressing, this is from what i see in the only game he played for Everton so far

It's possible that they need each other... I never ruled that out, they aren't mutually exclusive.

I was at Gibson's Goodison Park debut today. He did well enough in the first half and got a good reception when they announced his name. He linked up well with Donovan and Neville on the right side playing a lot of passes quickly and confidently to feet. Same as he did at United though, when the opposition had the ball and as the game went on he was poor at closing down or making himself available. Everton to a man were dreadful in the second half and Gibson was no exception. He was subbed as they chased a goal although he'd had a decent looking effort from a free kick blocked just prior to that.

Personally I always thought he was ok back up in an area of the pitch where we are thread bare. The fact that the transfer went through within days of scholes coming out of retirement, stinks of us having absolutely no disposable cash, even for extra wages.

Is Scholes going to be a much better option that Gibson for this half of the season? Probably even at 37.

I don't think he'll do that well at Everton. If he puts in the same shifts as he did at United, then unless he's somehow getting 30 goals a season Moyes wont put up with it for too long.

He seems to have invented this weird static midfield striker position for himself which doesn't actualy exist in any known team or formation.

He isn't really what everton needed. They have almost zilch creativity in midfield. The only player they have that ever looks like doing anything inventive is Drenthe. He must be a breath of fresh air to the supporters as they are used to dull uninspiring performances at the best of times. Gibson wont change anything, all it means is that Neville and Heitinga wont play in midfield anymore.

Yes.

Gibson is more creative than you give him credit for

what Everton need is more goalscoring threat as they struggle to score goals. Gibson will give them more threat from midfield.

He's a big physical lad, with regular football and under Moyes he will develop the defensive side of his game too.

bargain for Everton
