Danny Welbeck

And we could have predicted exactly how Memphis would turn out or ADM would turn out to be?

Danny Welbeck wanted to be selected for every game. He was obviously not good enough to be selected always. So he chose to leave. No one psyched him to leave
Tbh di maria was world class when we bought him , he probably would still be a world class if it wasn't under LvG

Welbeck never look like he is going to reach world class level. I saw him since his debut , he was fast & run a lot but when i saw him keep tackling himself & fall on his arse i stop putting any hope. His lower body has a bad balance , he should have try some pilates & yoga to fix it

Michael Cox was tweeting about him the other day, saying how he's being misused at Arsenal but would have probably thrived in a parallel universe where Fergie never retired. The next Park Ji Sung. Which kind of makes sense. Although the injury problems probably would have messed that up too.
Perhaps but you can't measure a player's ability by how well they would thrive under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson so his point is kind of moot.

Wasn't he supposed to be the next Thierry Henry? I remember all the stupid hype around him when he went to Arsenal. All that #Wele stuff looks so hilarious now

He's a fantastic player in a lot of ways. He has everything you'd want in a striker, except for the tiny hindrance that is his total inability to score goals.

Absolutely, never seen a striker with the athletic gifts that Welbeck has with less of a nose for goal. He is like the anti Thomas Muller, a guy who just seems to instinctively know where to be when the ball is coming into the box. Welbz marks himself out of the game, it is uncanny.

If Utd had possessed some unholy machine to combine the best parts of Welbeck and Hernandez they would have ended up with one of the best strikers in the game.

Wenger is on record saying that if he hadn't travelled on deadline day, Welbeck wouldn't be at arsenal
Exactly, its common knowledge that Arsenal only wanted him on loan because Giroud was injured and we needed a stop gap. Welbeck insisted on a permanent transfer and the decision makers at Arsenal bent. Still think we can recoup most of our 16m outlay for him, if Walcott's worth 20m then welbeck should be at least as much.

We'd borrow that machine to use it on Walcott+Welbeck.

As others have said, he's a striker who doesn't score goals. He's today's Emile Heskey.

At Utd and Arsenal (and he's been injured most of the time he's been at Arsenal) he averaged 1 goal every 5 games. That means over the course of a league season he would chip in 7 goals. Not exactly what you're looking for in a striker is it.

Good workhorse, poor finisher.

If Danny would play the wing and play like Ji Sung Park Jose would have him as one of the first names on his sheet.

Also puzzled me how unwilling Walcott was/is to run at defenders, with his pace and balance he should be a major problem for any full back. Ends up passive and waiting for a through ball. The finest moment of his career was that run at Anfield in the CL, going 80 yards hurdling tackles, not sure I ever saw anything close to that again from him.

Good at everything until he gets through on goal; then his brain turns to mush.

Hes no where near Heskey quality, harsh as it seems, he is leagues away.

Have you actually watched him today? Or recently? The mushing begins as soon as he gets the ball now.

He's shite. Kick and run merchant these days who throws himself all over the place. Never rated him but he's worse than ever these days.

Yes I have, he regularly misses chances when he plays for Arsenal. Still gets into good positions, but can't hit a barn door.

Hate to disagree with you @breakout67 but if you'd have watched him tonight you'd see he's been incapable of doing pretty much anything. He's not the only one on the pitch mind you but he looks painfully average at best. Don't get me started on Xhaka though...

Incredible he's still playing for a side that finishes in the top ten. He's woeful.

That's tonight though where everyone is absolutely shocking. A few games ago, Welbeck had 5 chances, all of which landed him on his arse and the ball out for a goal kick. He still gets into good positions.

He also falls over a lot more than he used to and his touch is as inconsistent as it's ever been.

In all ways, he's a worse player now.

I don't disagree but in addition to his inability to hit a barn door, his touch and ability to take on a man is shocking. I'll be amazed if he is still at Arsenal past the summer

Yes I agree, he's regressed as a player.

Question is how is he a professional footballer? He cant even stand on two feet longer than 5 seconds.

Fitting though - Bambi in the snow.

Hes either shot of all confidence or he has the us all fooled, never been his biggest fan but did rate him higher than what he is now showing

Should see a doctor for his balance issues, it is downright embarassing.

I've always liked Welbeck and I was disappointed when we sold him. Not because I thought he'd be a starting striker for us, but I felt - and still feel - that at the time he was well capable of being a good squad player for us. But injuries look to have really destroyed him. So I think it's a bit harsh that people are piling on now, taking the piss when the reality is that he did pretty well for us and is clearly not the player he was, rather than this being proof of him never having been good enough.
