Danny Welbeck

Name and shame all the caftards who cried when he left us for Arsenal. Fact is he was shite back then and he has gotten much worse with time.

The injuries that he has suffered for Arsenal. Whilst he was never prolific for us, but he was never this bad. Injuries have taken a toll, badly.

The long-term injuries hurt him but I don't think he was ever going to be a success. Even before that first injury he'd been poor, 4 in 25 for his first season.

I remember people at college used to think I was strange for disliking him and Cleverly around 2011. Dreadful players by Utd standards.

You don't remember anyone talking about the scoring record 3 years ago? Really?????

Rooney eyes Manchester United scoring record after Arsenal hat-trick

August 29, 2011 | 12:57pm

MANCHESTER, England — English Premier League soccer star Wayne Rooney was targeting Manchester United’s all-time club goalscoring record Monday following his hat-trick in the 8-2 demolition against Arsenal.

The England international moved into the franchise’s top 10 with his triple strike at Old Trafford on Sunday as he surpassed United’s former prolific Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Rooney, 25, now has 152 goals for the Red Devils and set his sights immediately on breaking club legend Bobby Charlton’s record 249-goal haul in United colors.

“I was aware I was one off 150 before the game,” Rooney said. “I asked how many Bobby Charlton scored. Giggsy [Ryan Giggs] said I had another 100 to go. That is a target. Hopefully I will do it in the next few years.”

Do you know that Henry was MORE prolific scorer than Rooney? In 369 games with Arsenal, he scored 226 goals (0.612 goals per game). Rooney, in 559 games for us he scored 253 goals (0.453 goals per game).

And people were comparing Welbeck with Henry, the more prolific scorer!!!

Stop avoiding the real reason why I quoted your post and continue posting some more rubbish and twisting my words.

Local lad in a photograph.

He was painfully average for us, an extremely limited footballer, and it was embarassing to see fans crying and throwing their toys out of the pram when he was sold. What exactly did he do for us? And has he shown any inkling of being fond of us, since leaving? No, if anything he's seemed spiteful.

Average, average local man.

You're going off on weird tangents, the point you made which amar questioned was specifically about people believing he'd break Rooney's record.

People complaining about United fans 'enjoying' his failure need look no further than the Mkhi thread to see just how insufferable fanboys/media can be when we sell their favorite player. Mkhi had one good game for Everton the week after he left and the thread became a cesspool of how we made him shite and he will go on to become a beast under a 'more attacking unit'. Thankfully it didn't last long at all. With Welbeck he had a few good weeks and he was Wele, next Henry and we had sold our soul. I'm pretty certain if he has a good game next week and scores a goal some insufferable twats on here will still spout that' we should have kept him' nonsense.

Nail on the head. The outpouring of grief on here when we sold him and fans lapping up the media narrative that we "sold our soul" was pathetic. The same media that never rated him when he was here and went on a massive WUM because he joined a rival. Also, the amount of threads that popped up on here as soon as he got a goal / praising him was sad. He deserves the stick.

.

Now that's embarrassing!

He hasn't slagged us off either, he was shamefully treated by LVG who didn't have the decency to at least support his departure instead he stated he had 1% chance of playing!!! What would you think as a player playing for your boyhood team if a twat like LVG made those remarks.
He may not have reached the potential that SAF had in him but to say he was limited is a crass thing to say.

I didn't shed tears when he left but there's something quite sad about the way injuries and Arsenal's coaching have made him and some other good players look like National League players

It's clear to see that He has failed to fulfill his potential (even regressed) so far and for that reason, I wouldn't regret about how We sold him to Arsenal nor would I talk shite about him. He never talked shite about United either. Well, it's his boyhood club and He already left.

Precisely

Some very harsh opinions, he had some cracking games for us too & actually has a pretty good record for England.

He was always going to be a ‘scorer of great goals but not a great goalscorer’ type

His high pressing is probably the best in the league when fit, excellent movement, rubs the channels to create space, decent in the air and capable of spectacular goals.

Downsides are fitness, finishing when he has too much ‘thinking’ time and ice skates on his feet.

Not everyone’s cup of tea but as he’s a united lad I’ll always have a soft spot for him. Ironically he would have done better for a Mourinho than an Lvg or Arsene due to his high pressing

But yeah injuries have done for him

Needs to go to a team where he'll be first choice when he is fit so he can get his career going again. Preferably up front in his preferred position.

I think he'd have made it to a higher level as a hard working winger, which I think is what Fergie was ultimately transitioning him towards with his use of him against Madrid in 12/13. Injuries took a toll for sure, but his insistence on being a striker despite a lack of composure in front of net made a future at United impossible after Fergie left.

His attempt when through on Neuer in the CL was one of the most embarrassingly pathetic attempts ever, especially since Moyes had specifically told him not to try to chip Neuer if put through in a 1v1. LvG gave him a chance, but Welbeck's desire to play through the middle made the choice for him.

Think I've said it before but when he was emerging on the scene, I was on the forum Soccerpulse (rip) and the United fans rated him ridiculously highly. One fan said he hopes he can be like Andy Cole but that was blasted by the other United fans as he was apparently 'far superior' to Cole and will out score him at United.

Considering his crazy celebration against us at Old Trafford in his first game after leaving us I'm not really sure. That was stupid celebration from him.

Same with me mate , i never rate them both & fellow united fans hate me because of it.
They both lack the most important but also the most underrated trait every human should have . Composure. It doesn't matter how talented you are ( not just in football but in every kind of talent ) if you don't have composure to pull it of at the right time & right place

I never saw him as a good striker, but it’s foolish to suggest he wasn’t a good player for us. He did for us what Park did (Ji was better though) he worked his socks off for the team and would chip in with a couple of goals when played out wide. For whatever reason he got an ego on him and fancied himself as a striker and we were right to let him go for a stupid amount of money.

How can playing as a striker be a players 'favoured position' when finishing is by far his biggest weakness? It was used throughout his time here... 'play him in his favoured position and he'll flourish' , 'if we play him in his favoured position he'll be as good as Muller/RVP', 'we stunted his development by shunting him out to the wing' etc. It's still being used till now. Why would any sane manager play him as a striker when he can't stay on his feet in the box, be it in the championship or in China

His favoured position is on an ice rink, because he is Bambi on ice.

I think his knees are shot.
His balance is not normal.

I always liked the lad but something is seriously wrong with his balance. There was that one on one situation yesterday with the keeper where he literally exploded from the ground, Ashley Young would be proud of it and I am pretty sure he wasn't trying to dive, he just bounces off the ground for some reason.

He was an idiot for convincing himself striker was his best position. His best games were as a wide forward, not least of all for England under Hodgson.

Agreed. I think LVG rated him, but just not as a centre forward. He played a lot, and to good effect, in the 2014 pre-season.

He is an embarrassingly average footballer, who, along with Cleverly, were given sooooo much leeway because they were academy lads, with our fans.
Shocking players, and we are well rid of both. Welbeck in particular has had a filthy level of appreciation of MUFC since being released, which really goes against all the #locallad fans on here.

Feck the local son of a gun. Glad he's flat-lining for all his posturing since leaving us.

Welbeck was not a bad player here, he just never really progressed like he should have.

Looking at that video up the page and it is odd to see some of his early goals look such high quality striker moments. He is also notably smaller, I think as he ended up at his full height and started packing muscle on he lost coordination and flexibility. He never had the instincts of a pure goalscorer but early in his career he looked comfortable with the ball at feet and technically capable, nice quick feet, sure touch. Regressed badly in those areas and add in the injuries and he has dropped off. Looks so stiff and clumsy now.

Given leeway when exactly? Both players you mention when being sold by the club the majority of fans are and were happy to see them go.
We have fans who still like Rooney, Anderson, Nani etc, so maybe fans feel attached to certain players for whatever reason. Whereas you seem to dislike players who are from the Manchester area?
