Not quite.
3 strikers in their 30s, Wilson stepping up and a feck ton of cash to buy anyone else we need.

We need to get back into the champions league ASAP, Danny Welbeck is not going to score enough goals to do that this season, next season, any other season.

Looking at it dispassionately, we don't have time to feck around waiting for him to find his shooting boots, he's one of the casualties of the rebuilding process.

You talk as if he struggled to score goals for us since the beginning but scored 5-6 goals consisting of chips and long shots. This is not the case. He was scoring for us in the league and in Europe in our first season until he was shunted out wide. In the second season, he struggled playing out wide as he's useless as a wide player. With Moyes, everyone struggled.

He's shown that he can make it and become a useful player for us, but how could he refine and develop his game when he had van Persie and Rooney in front of him? Young strikers rarely make it up to the top with world class players ahead of them unless they constantly get loaned out or sold (see Lukaku at Everton). Once he gets regular match time at Arsenal, we'll see who's right: the doubters or the hopefuls.

We've given Arsenal a lifeline. They would have had to stick with Sanogo until the new year.

Fergie would never have sold him. He would've got his chance up front last year with Rooney gone. Shame.
Yep, just like he would've given the chance in 12/13

Oh wait.

When the SSN presenter outside the Emirates said earlier that Welbeck wasn't signing, the Arsenal fans behind him cheered..

This is the only thing I have issue with. Then again they would probably play Sanchez up front and he would get them goals anyway.

I don't expect Welbeck to be a big success at Arsenal.

So how do I explain to my son that he's named after an Arsenal player?

Just taking your post seriously for the heck of it.

You named your son after Danny Welbeck? I mean, naming your kid after a footballer specifically is bad enough but after a player who hadn't done much at the club and was all potential for 5 years is a bit strange.

I dunno, maybe you can tell him you named him after Harry Potter.

Feel so gutted by this. One of the homegrown players I desperately want to succeed because I've followed his career very closely. He should do well at Arsenal. Best of luck Danny.

Unfortunately Welbeck doesn't play for a club that can afford to play him up front while he finds his feet.

He needed to be up there and firing at at least a competitive rate against our other strikers for him to get game time, and he hasn't done it.

"6 in 6" will be the new Berbatov was last seasons top scorer.

Ultimately, if Welbeck's moved on, it's fine for the present. Currently, we have probably the 2nd best strike force in the league. It's the future where there are doubts as we have no guarantees of having forwards who can replace Rooney, van Persie, and Falcao other than Wilson. We'll have to look into the market and find someone who's good enough and can provide us with several years of good service, which won't be easy as great strikers are hard to obtain as they're the most on demand in the market.

If he wasnt what we needed in attack and for arsenal what they don't needed I'd be less upset. We almost wasted our time developping such talent and handing him to arsenal in his best years to come 23 YO striker with one thing needed, just to be relied on and played upfront in competent team. He is just waiting to errupt.. He will be a hit and in few seasons best goalscorer in the league. What a fecking mistake we did. Fergie would never let this happen, instead we bought colombian who is in decline as well, not sure about his recovery from injury and who will cost hell lot of money but who cares about oney, he is just not what we need. We need to change the pace of the team and philosophy but with two rigid strikers up front we are not getting to top4 not even questioning about our abilitites to win the title..

Not a good enough finisher for a club like United sadly. Good at everything else though, but you still need to score. I don't think we will miss him much. It's make sense for everyone tbh. United can't give him matches, Danny wanted to be first choice, and Arsenal are desperately need a striker.

I'm gutted Welbeck is going, but that's a meltdown.

To be fair, as a white guy in Derbyshire in 2012 who would you have picked? I'm not going with Wayne or Ryan, and he just doesn't look like a Rio, a Nemanja, an Antonio or a Rafael.:smirk:

Rooney and van Persie got what? 2-3 years at best. If we had kept Welbeck, he'll be a 26 year old striker with a few games here and there. He'll never fulfill his potential like that. It's selfish dream by United fans that Welbeck would do a Solskjaer to stay as 3rd/4th choice striker. It's the best move for everyone involves.
