fecking hate football sometimes.
Hope it doesn't come through.
You're assuming that Rooney and van Persie are undroppable even if they're off form and not doing well for several matches. Welbeck was given his chance in pre-season and did well. He got injured and didn't start immediately, but he had a decent impact for us against Sunderland, Burnley, and the Dons. If Welbeck took his chance and performed well in place of van Persie, who's to say that he would have been dropped for van Persie?
Likewise. The perfect scenario is us being able to sign Falcao, but Arsenal not being able to sign Welbeck. Then Welbeck (not feeling aggrieved because United visibly tried to let him leave), goes on to prove his worth at United while Arsenal are striker-less for the foreseeable future.
Even if Welbeck deal fails and Falcao deal also fails then we are still doing a great job to keep Falcao at Monaco and making Arsenal stick with Sanogo.
Fully agree. The worst case scenario was Falcao landing at Arsenal.
He's a cracking player and will fit right into the young side Arsenal are building there. EnjoyApparently this has only happened as Falcao has gone to you guys. If not we were not going to sign any striker so you really have given us a get out of jail card.
In a weird way I think Arsene must have thought he hit the jackpot with this. Wellbeck imo is very close to the sort of forward he's been looking at for a long time. Has the physical presence and will hold the ball up, has very good link up play, decent in the air and the thing that excites me the most is he has got good pace. The amount of time Cazorla and in particular Ozil looks for that through ball and doesn't see a runner has really infuriated them and he'll help with this.
I really think he'll do well here. Don't get me wrong wasn't my first choice but I have always rated him and don't get those that say he won't score many goals. I mean you guys no more then me but has he not been quite prolific when playing through the middle as opposed to the wings? Also Giroud is not at all prolific yet has scored 40 goals for us in 2 seasons and in all honestly should have been about 60. Wellbeck is going to have three months to pretty much being the main striker, which I'm sure will give him confidence.
Quite like the fact we have a good contingency of English lads now, providing it goes through - Wellbeck, Chamberlain, Wilshere, Walcott, Gibbs and Chambers which can only be a good thing!
Also fittingly it looks like his debut will be against Man City!
I doubt they have enough time to do Falcao deal now.
Not just that, he wins the ball high up the pitch, and can occupy two defenders that are trying to play out.Apparently this has only happened as Falcao has gone to you guys. If not we were not going to sign any striker so you really have given us a get out of jail card.

Hasn't jones been one of our best so far?

I wasn't suggesting they were. I meant that the worst case scenario, for example at the start of the day, would have been Arsenal landing Falcao.
I'd still love to see us sign Falcao and screw over Arsenal at the last minute by changing our mind on Welbeck.

I'm apoplectic that he's going. I just can't fathom why. I thought LVG judged on the basis of performance ahead of reputation? Giving the captaincy to Rooney, shoehorning him, RVP and Mata in the same side when it has shown it doesn't work in the past just says opposite.
Every single time Welbeck has seen time on the pitch, we have instantly looked a more cohesive unit. Is LVG blind? (pardon the pun) The least he deserved was a 3rd striker spot with us, and then push for a starting spot once RVP was phased out, which isn't going to be long judging by his injury record. What the flying feck are we going to do in 3 years time when Rooney continues his decline, RVP winds down as well as possibly Falcao too? Such stupid short sightedness, which has been symptomatic of the club's conduct during the whole of this transfer window IMO... Absolutely fecking fuming.

That's the one thing I don't understand either. Welbeck has been decent under van Gaal and neither Roone nor RVP have have a good BPL game so far. I understand they both need time, but they're getting old and are injury prone.
Exactly. And the thing is, I don't see anyone even on the horizon in that regard. Lukaku? Benteke? Possibly the only ones who look anywhere near the requisite quality, but not exactly the type to strike fear in the opposition. fecking ridiculous.Short sightedness indeed! I've been saying this as well. LVG is only looking out for his time here and I expect him to retire from management when his contract is over. He wants to go out in a glory of blaze like Fergie did when he signed RVP and brought back Scholes the season before. In 2 seasons we'll need to sign a striker that won't come cheap.
All Welbeck needed was a run to work out the kinks in his game. That will happen at least until January now. He's the perfect player for them in every way.Look at the last 2 seasons. Football is about putting the ball in the next. Danny does everything but that consistently. RVP and Rooney are proven goal scorers and so is Falcao.

I admit he was slightly overhyped cause he was local, but he was clearly talented. He just never got a string of games in his favourite position up front, especially under a decent manager (sorry Moyes).Well Welbeck is not the end of the world. The guy was pretty much useless to be honest. Whatever he did on the pitch rarely amounted in a goal. All hype because he's local. Happy he can go prove himself elsewhere.
Sure, but Welbeck has been excellent at pressuring teams early and working his way back to get balls and get us moving forward. He also offers a different dimension compared to RVP, Rooney and Falcao with his pace. Given that he's only 23, there's no reason not to believe that he can become a solid goal scorer as well.
I'm not arguing whether he should be played over RVP or Rooney anyways. I'm just pointing out that as a 3rd/4th striker, he's more than solid enough and we could really use him given how injury prone both RVP and Rooney are.
Welbeck has just lacked goals, his all around game is superb. Just watch his reputation skyrocket at Arsenal, Wenger will get the best out of him and he will suit their system.
