Yeah, his value might go up a bit, but even then he's not worth £20m. I'd have him somewhere between £15m-£20m at a push. Not to mention him effectively being 4th choice here puts his value down because he's not an invaluable player to us from other clubs' perspective.

He's worth £18 million at least. Add the English tax and add ons which would push it to £24 million.

Find it really strange the way people see this sort of thing from the players view. Like they want good things for footballers who aren't Manchester United players (any more). Can't relate to that mindset at all.
Why would they not? It's hardly like we all just adore everybody at the club based on the fact that they're a Manchester United player and then as soon as that is no longer the case we don't give a shit about them. We like, or dislike, players based on who they are and what they've done for the club. Whether Welbeck is our player or not there are plenty of things about him and his career path to like and as such I want to see him do well. I'd rather he was doing well at Spurs than Arsenal but the point stands about wanting good things for footballers not playing at United.

Had a little look at an Arsenal forum, to see what their thoughts on the deal are.

They ranged between "he's better than Sanogo" and "we need someone" generally being among the more positive to people who were outright unhappy about the prospect of him signing. It's strange to see one set of fans so gutted about a player leaving, with another set unexcited about the prospect of him signing.

Eh?

Hernandez will get time at Madrid. The bloke he is replacing got more than 30 games. Madrid are in 3 competitions and will go far in the cups. It's a good move for Chicharito
Chicarito will score a lot of goals at madrid.
His pace will stretch any back 4 leaving a lot space for Isco or James to work with. Lets not forget Ronaldo and bale on the wings. And Modric in midfield.

This. Let them struggle in their search for a striker and play Sanogo up front, who looks like a donkey. If Arsenal don't get a decent striker then no top four for them. We just helping them.
I know Arsenal are predicted to lose out on top 4 on a yearly basis, but as you say, this year with Sanogo as their only striker they could've been in some serious trouble. Thankfully for Wenger, LVG and Woodward are lending a helping hand. What a joke.

Be very interested to see how he does atleast. Whether he turns into the beast of a striker that some think he is destined to be, or still can't hit a barn door despite playing upfront every week.

I think SSN got it wrong with the medical thing and are just running with it cause they'll look like idiots if he hasn't had one yet.

Actually, it's exactly like that. For me anyway. I support the club, not a bunch of individual players.

I'll be honest, I think Danny is hugely overrated on here, and by United fans in general, for obvious reasons, but I think he'd be really good at Arsenal.

I know what you're saying Mockers, but the only thing missing from Danny was his finishing at the top level, because he scored for fun at the levels below.

Hope its just a loan, but even at that - we shouldnt be selling / loaning our players, to our rivals & make them stronger. Get our shit together 1st before we even consider doing that..

I wouldn't be surprised if his loan is terminated by Christmas. It isn't a good move.

Is he though? He's a good 23-year old player, who's best league goals tally over one season isn't even in double figures. £18m would be a good fee for him. The fact that we don't see him as an invaluable player who we need cuts his value down a bit more.

He'll fit Arsenal perfectly IMO. Exactly the type of striker they needed. A hard worker, a strong and fast player with good link up play, all he lacks is the killer instinct which might arrive with first team action.

Even spurs fans I saw on twitter didn't want him. Though he's better than anything arsenal have currently, so with that in mind we should reject any deal.

We need four top strikers: RVP, Falcao, Rooney and Welbeck would provide us with plenty of firepower with opportunity to switch things around and all have their own qualities.

Unless LVG is planning to give Wilson a breakthrough.

Anyone else worried what might happen to januzaj and Wilson aswell? Rumors has it that Januzaj is not sure about his future at United, whereas Wilson is still at an age not to worry about that. If Welbeck leaves, it should be the upmost importance that we at least give Wilson and januzaj some positive news about their place at United. Januzaj in particularily who has barely been given an opportunity this term.

What if he does well, doesn't wanna return to Utd and Arsenal buy him ? I hate that this is happening, I don't mind Welbeck leaving, just not to Arsenal ffs.

If he does well and they give us 20-25m for him, we will sell. These things happen to homegrown players too.

United want £18 million according to an agent on the BBC. Did want £15 mil but the price has gone up.

For going to a rival team?

Maybe he only had good offers from Spurs and Arsenal. Sh*t, I know where I'd be going.

Where do you guys expect him to go, fecking Sunderland? I'm staggered by the levels of idiocy from multiple members in this thread. It's creepy.

I don't care what offers he has, the fact is he's trying to push through a move to a rival team. You don't have to call me an idiot for being annoyed about this and I would appreciate it if you didn't.

I think he is, especially if we are selling to our rivals. I wouldn't sell him for less than £18 million anyway.

Yeah, Arsenal fans mindset seems to be that he's better than some of their previous signings, so they'll be content with him. He'll be useful, but he's not guarantee to be their first choice striker if they play with one up top, although his chances of being so are certainly stronger than they are here, which is why the move makes sense for him.

That's ridiculous. Hernandez has turned to shit for us because of his lack of confidence, playing so rarely and how little he was played last year under Moyes (plenty of 5 minute appearances basically). At Madrid he's their #2 striker and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get around 15 goals for them, being used as a super sub. He's not going to be a starter, he's going to play more football which he will get there, something similar to how he was under Fergie. With the players they have supplying him he'll get plenty of chances too.

He was put up for sale because he didn't want to play second fiddle to Evra. So you think Fergie would agree to such a sale? He wouldn't give a toss what Welbeck thinks.

Probably.

Just to reiterate, it sounds like Van Gaal informed Welbeck that he wasn't part of his plans. In that scenario I don't blame any player and his agent angling for the best possible move. Fu*k what the selling club thinks.

thats the way i see it too. Could imagine him finding the killer instinct in front of the goal with a run of games and as a staring striker in a good team.

Not sure about his future? We're 4 games into the season, he's played in 3 of them FFS.

Spurs fans generally overstate their level.
Welbeck has got to be better than Adebayor and Soldado, and he'd certainly work a lot harder than either.

Yeah, because we've been shit since Danny broke through haven't we? only a few PL won titles sure..

Jeez, talk about going way over the top. The guy was 3rd/4th choice for us and was never going to be anything more. He's not a natural goalscorer so I don't see where people think he's suddenly going to start banging in goals for Arsenal.

Are we scared of f*cking Arsenal now??

I call an idiot when I see it. The club have told him he's not wanted, he can go wherever the bloody hell he likes.

"We don't want you here Danny, but I'll tell you what lad, get yourself over the Hull. I mean, Arsenal would like you, they'll play you an extra 40k per week, and you might just get to play against Real Madrid at some point in March, but nah son, don't take the piss, have some respect and sign for the mighty 'Ull. But yeah, we don't want you here."

Yeah, logic!

But isn't that what the fans (at least those over here want)?
Woody is simply delivering what fans are demanding - a plastic team like Chelsea and City.
If you don't have the quality in the position then yes. We already have 2 strikers capable of scoring 30+ goals in a season though. We have a homegrown quota to meet, he offers pace that our other options don't have and he's versatile.

I think SSN got it wrong with the medical thing and are just running with it cause they'll look like idiots if he hasn't had one yet.

Talksport called it 1st on the Falcao deal & they also called it 1st about Welbecks medical. Both nearly always run with the same info very close to each other man - seem to have some kind of partnership or association..
