Danny Welbeck | Manchester United: 2001-2014

I see VG playing 433 using di maria janazaj and mata playing off the front man, and perhaps rotating RVP and rooney

I see LVG is sticking 352 since neither Rooney and RVP want to sit on the bench. LVG attitude is pretty much a stubborn one, he is trying to find the best formation just for Mata, Rooney and RVP to play together, so he will stick with 352 until he realizes if it's not working (would still be good if in the end it works). And we aren't going to just let the two of our most expensive paid to be rotated. If we play 433, I can see one of them will complain and ask to leave, which I think better keep Welbeck just for in case if we end up selling one of Rooney or RVP.

Sounds like he is getting closer to moving. Really hope he doesn't though. Please stay Danny!

Why would be get rid of this lad is beyond me.

The forwards currently are total devoid of the confidence to run past a player and open things up (bar Di Maria who will bring this as seen today).

Welbeck is one of our only other players, currently, who offers that. With LVG turning to him I would be surprised if we let him go by choice.

Silly me, posting in the loan thread instead of this one, but in short I think it would be insane to let him go. Was our second best player today, in very limited minutes.

In any of his appearances since the word broke that he was supposed to be leaving on loan or whatever he hasn't done much to persuade me that he'd be worth holding on to.

He has looked more threatening in about 10 minutes of football than Rooney and RvP have in 160 minutes I think. He offers us movement. We'd be insane to get rid of him. He should be starting at the moment.

You've got to be kidding. He should have been starting these games. We have one of the most static front 3s I have ever seen in my life. He's improved things whenever he's come on

Come onnn.. we looked so much better once Welbeck came on today.

I get the sense that LVG is warming up to Danny. The current for of RVP means we would be crazy to let him go now.

The current form of: RvP, Rooney, Mata, and Hernandez. All our attackers have been horrible. Welbeck has looked better than all of them. It'd be stupid to let him go.

did you watch the game?

Yes and the MK Dons match too. I think those that are saying we'd be insane to get rid of him are seriously over exaggerating things and over rating him too.

If he was as good or had as much to offer as some are making out there wouldn't be a hope in hell getting rid of him would come into the equation with LvG. We need attacking players with a lot more in their locker than pace or in short with a lot more in their lockers than what Welbeck has.

Yeah, Welbeck only offers pace

Should be one of the first names on the team sheet right now. Selling him would beyond a joke.

alright, what could Welbeck have done against MK Dons? Unless you mean to tell me he should have come in the defensive half, pick up the ball and dribble past the opposition and score goals??

Same with this game? How many times did Valencia have a cross blocked for a corner? How many times did Welbeck not a make a run to receive the ball? How many times did he fluff a chance?

I'm all for criticizing players but at least bring up valid criticism.

Sadly right now, pace and movement is exactly what we need up front and Welbeck is the best person we have for that. The rest of them are to static to open up defences right now. I'd be dropping one of our current front three in favour of Welbeck. Each time he has been subbed on, our attack has improved as a whole.

Agree. So far this season he has offered far more in terms of penetration than any other player despite his few mins off the bench. We need his pace and power just to create openings.

I honestly hope that LVG has also noticed the intent Welbeck has shown every time he's come on. Sprinting about the place, getting the ball back quickly for free kicks, closing down up front, making runs in behind etc. He really wants to make things happen on the pitch, which is much more than can be said for many out there for us this season.

Welbeck would be my first choice striker for the 5-3-2/3-5-2 right now. Going by how well they have played in the league I think he has been the one doing the best. He offers penetrative runs, he tries to challenge his man and his off the ball movement to get involved in the link up play is very good too.

I don't at all get the idea of even thinking of selling him and Kagawa, they are both different alternatives to that we currently use. Kagawa is much better defensively than Mata and Welbeck is our best winger when it comes to hard work.

We will be looking like Arsenal as soon as we get an injury on one of the key players.

I would agree with this

Our team is slow in the build up and lacks that energy. Whilst Welbeck might not be the best finisher, he will pick the ball up, beat a man and make things happen by running into space. I personally think we would be further limiting our opinions in attack by off loading him. He is the type of player that could really excel under LVG who might even manage to find him his perfect position.

Keep hold!

I would agree as well.

If he stays he's gonna get the game time that Wilson should be getting, he simply has to go.

The main reason for keeping Welbeck is that what he lacks in goal scoring he makes up for in his build up play and the speed he adds to the forward line.

But i would rather LVG focused on solving the lack of creativity and slow passing in the midfield rather try to compensate by playing a forward that can do what the midfield can't.

What have you seen to suggest that Wilson is ready to be a third choice striker for us?
He's been banging em in for fun at u21 level and has looked good in his cameos for the first team. He's quite simply a bigger talent than danny.

Wilson is a bigger talent than him. He's been here forever and hasn't at any point seemed like he could seal a starting position at the club.

Apart from the season he was a starter for us you mean?

As for Wilson, he's proven nothing yet. Looks a great talent in the reserves, but so did Macheda and Bebe. Whereas Welbeck has actually proven time and time again in the first team what an asset he can be.

At this point he looked like a long-term starter for us.

Watching this...damn we used to play good football :(

Wilson will take Hernandez minutes which should be good enough for a player at his stage of development. Gutted that he did not start versus mk dons over Hernandez. We might have still been in the competition. Welbeck will get regular playing time in our current system when van gaal realizes that zombie football has it limitation. That is if he stays and does not opt for Di Maria instead. Manchester United will benefit from his inclusion like we saw in pre-season.

Really hope that he stays, still more to come from him. Rather he was a starter too. Should be playing regularly for us. Has a-lot of attributes the team lacks. Quick, athletic, intelligent and hard working. He's the perfect model of a modern striker and though he does have a long way to go there are similarities between him and Muller.
