Danny Welbeck | Manchester United: 2001-2014

He wants to be a starter here, and wants to leave because he can't get that, but what does he expect when he puts in performances like this? Doesn't really look arsed.

It looks to me he is our best player tonight. The movement and the run. It's just the service he received isn't enough. Kagawa through ball should be earlier since Welbeck made an early run, but still good one and that was a very good save from the keeper.

I'm a big Welbeck critic, but he's been fine tonight especially considering he has had very little to work with.

He was good in the first few minutes but hasn't done much else. Considering the level of the opposition, he should be doing more. Sorry but he just hasn't done well apart from the first few minutes.

He's been our best player and yet he's only playing alright by his standards.

For all the good he does he just can't score to save his life, it's so annoying.

He didn't do himself any favours today. Looked completely lacklustre today. As if he'd been told he'd have to leave for Hull City.

Seemed to lose faith in receiving any decent passes once kagawa went off

Anyone using tonight as a basis to criticise him either has an agenda or is genuinely clueless.

He has to stay, one of few that kept going, kept trying...

What the fecking feck are some people smoking?

He was easily the best player on the pitch for us tonight.

See both posts above yours.

He was his usual self. He'll run around, but not really do anything. Too arrogant when he does get the ball

Couple of decent involvements, like when he got past on the side, or the run into the box that almost came off.

Oh, and he had that shot that wasn't on target.

Apart from that, he was pretty much rubbish.

A game where you want your senior players to inspire the team. Hernandez, Welbeck and Evans did not do that at all, but Welbeck came out of it as the best of the woeful trio. 3/10.

Probably his worst game since Spurs away last season, which, surprisingly, was his first game after the injury too.

One of the best from an awful bench tonight. Started off brightly, and I thought the MK Dons defenders were in for hell after that first 5 minutes.

Completely vanished after that.

He's not good enough. I don't understand why people make apologies for him on a consistent basis. Born and bred in Manchester but not up to snuff to be a United striker. The fact remains that he doesn't score goals and he shows zero ambition to drive at defenses.

Thought he was very poor tonight.

Which made him one of our best players in comparison with the others actually.

That's just bollocks, to be frank.
Is it still bollocks? He played well in the first 5 minutes, after that he did next to nothing and lost the ball too easily. He is way better then what he showed today, but the point is, he wants to leave as he's not happy to be just a squad player. If you want to start, prove it in games like this. Not put in a stinker like he did. I just expect a lot more from him.

Don't want him to go but he's not going to be first choice as he's nowhere near Rooney's class, or Van Persies.

Not good enough really. He's quite possibly the best striker in world football in the middle third of the pitch, but one of the most pointless in the final third. You never get the feeling that he's threatening the opposition and for a striker that's quite damning. This boy just isn't going to get it done and keeping him around is just going to slow down Wilsons development. He really just has to go, perhaps insert a buy back clause in case he figures it out one day but at the moment he looks no closer than he did in the 11/12 season.

Not so sure with the complain. Best our attackers against Sunderland and also the only one who played well tonight. I can't find any other players except Wilson and Welbeck who played well tonight. The poor service he got just look at how many missed passes our midfield and defenders made tonight. Football is a teamwork. It's not like he needs to beat 4 players alone.

Why can he not go past a man? He's 6.2, athletic, skillful, yet he never threatens to go past a player...

He never threatens. Isn't United quality as a striker, winger or midfielder. We should just let him go.

Both should go, Wilson promoted, we will have limited games this season so will cope.

If we are playing two up front then we need 4 strikers. Unlike the other 3 (Rooney, RvP & Wilson), Welbeck actually has a little bit of pace. He offers something different. He can actually run.

Ogden reckons front three of Di Maria, Rvp, and Janujaz, with Rooney in behind, this would put Mata on the bench, so basically we would have Rvp, Rooney, Mata, and Wilson for 2 positions, leaving Welbeck, and Hernandez expendable.

I don't know what games you watched but he did passed man tonight. But just one or two players at the same time. Did you missed some his dribble and run tonight? Probably the player who beat more man tonight. In football you don't try to have a go to beat 4 players or the whole team. Is he Messi? It's football game, a teamwork game. Not a skill game try to beat a lot of men. It's 11 vs 11. He always threatens the defenders with his skill, pace, strength and movement. And he is at best at a great link up plays. Don't expect great link up plays will happen if the quality service he got isn't enough.

I am sorry, he doesn't apply himself in the manner you make out. He'd score goals if he did all that. He vanished tonight.

To some people Welbeck can't do anything right! He was by far our best player tonight yet some people are still criticising him.

I'm sorry but you know nothing about him.
I just wasted my time to tell someone who has no idea at all.

Can we try him in midfield? he clearly has skill and speed. His passing aint too bad, you never know, he could save us a wedge.
