We bow to you Olly.

What a move, that's the touch of genius that Welbeck can bring to the team that few strikers in the world have.

And what a perfect football physique, I'm really excited to see what he makes of himself. If SAF preferred him to Chicharito and Berbatov last year, I think we're going to see a lot of him as he improves. Injuries permitting of course, and let's hope he can avoid anything serious.

Nothing better than having someone who was born and raised around Old Trafford leading the line for the Red Devils.

Tell me about it, I have this debate on a regular basis with two guys in my office and, shamefully, my old man. They all bang on and on about how he's not good enough.

Don't worry its probably just blindness causes by their hate of united. He will be one of those players people just can ignore in a few years time. So brilliant but a lot he can and will improve. Could be our drogba in a few years

They're all United fans.

:nono: I just don't get this. Last night I was willing your boys on and was genuinely gutted when you lost. I'd have been the same for the Scots, Welsh or Northern Irish.

Why the feck does everyone hate the English?

Because we think we're fecking brilliant at everything, always right and that everyone should do as we say.

It obviously works both ways. There were fecking loads of English people wanting Ireland to lose. I personally don't care about international rivalries.

The England band...

In all honesty I was somewhat up for England tonight, once there's United players on the team I'll want them to succeed.

he went from being a "useless cnut" to "well in welbeck lad" in the space of ten minutes on quite a few facebook status's tonight. I've given up even talking about football with people who aren't on here. In comparison to pretty much everyone on here, the punter down the pub is a retard

Danny's overall play was excellent today. It's talked about all the time on here, but how good is his work rate? A top, top striker, with the determination to match.

A great, instinctive and beautiful finish this evening to win the game. Love it.

If Welbeck is dropped for Rooney next game rather than Carroll I'll be livid.

We need to keep hold of the ball so I can't see any reason why that would happen. Welbeck had a 96% pass completion rate tonight and has a 94.2% pass completion rate over the two games, he also created two goal scoring opportunities tonight.

Carroll had a 56% pass completion rate tonight and created no goalscoring opportunities which is piss poor. He is also reckless and gave away the freekick that led to the first Sweden's first goal with a petulant challenge. He scored a great goal but apart from that he was poor.

To me Carroll is a desperation substitute. I also feel that Walcott is better coming off the bench.

There are rumours that Roy really likes Carroll but I really can't see how he can pick him over Welbeck who plays with Rooney at club level too. A Rooney - Welbeck front two will certainly see us keep the ball better in future games, we need that.

 that's so true, every time someone at work starts talking to me about football I die a little inside. I have to make a conscious effort to hide the contempt in my eyes when one guy starts railing on about how Evans is shite, Welbeck isn't fit to wear the shirt and we need to sign X, Y and Z to stand any chance of even getting in the top 4 next season.

Welbeck had 41 touches a 96% pass completion rate, made 2 goal scoring opportunities and scored 1 goal.

Not too shabby.

Those are mighty fine stats.

Wonder how his pass completion compared to Gerrard? The amount of times him and Parker pass the ball to the opposition is ridiculous. It's the reason England haven't a hope of winning.

They run around and put some sliding tackles in though, which let's be honest, is all that matters.

It's always Carrick and Evans that need to be sold everytime i discuss football with mates.

Look, lads, England has fecked with the Irish for centuries. It's an in-built thing for the Irish to hate the English in any sporting event. I live in England, most of my friends are English and I haven't got a bad word to say about the English.

It's purely banter(ish).

Hard to describe, but we will always root against you.

We need to massively over-hype this lad so when he inevitably isn't as good, we can destroy him completely.

But seriously what a goal.

Welbeck has a pass completion rate of 94.2% over the two games, Parker is on 86.5% and Gerrard is on 84.4%.

Welbeck actually has the highest pass completion rate of the top 20 ranked players on whoscored.com for the whole tournament so far. Of course he makes far less passes than many of the other players on the list.

Welbeck is the 19th ranked player of the tournament so far according to their interpretation of Opta stats.

edit*

That is the 19th best player of 242 that have had game time. Quite beautifully Szczesny is ranked as the worst and Cech as the second worst.

Meh. That's a no brainer.

Carrick has needed to be sold since we signed him. You can't just go around passing the ball to people on your own team all the time and expect to get lauded for it.

Gerrard made no tackles tonight even though he was driving the team on 85% completion for Stevie G and 82% for Parker on 59 and 56 passes attempted respectively.

Gorgeous finish. So good at making time for himself as well, always seems to find a simple pass and keep the ball. Fingers crossed Hodgson doesn't decide to pair Carroll with Rooney...

Carroll was woeful apart from the deflected fluke headed goal. He shouldn't be anywhere near the team vs Ukraine

To be fair to Carroll, some of those misplaced passes where long passes.

Making reckless long passes and failing to execute them is OK?

When you have a team that really needs to hold onto the ball the last thing that you want is someone failing with every second pass, long or short.

Carroll'a "passing stats" aren't helped by so many of them being headers. Stats aside, he's blatantly shit. Really good first 15-20 minutes. Painfully average thereafter. Plus, he turns all his team-mates into long ball merchants. He has an uncanny knack to turn every game he's involved in into glorified pub football.

I think he's shite. Zlatan showed tonight how a big man outruns and outmuscles defenders. Carroll is a stick.

Could be a useful impact sub late in matches. Great header you gotta say.

That 56% comes from 25 passes. Are you sure that headers are included?
