That type of miss is unforgivable. You would honestly think he has been playing fifa street too much trying stupid shit like that. Just stick it in the net you fool.

Should have gone round the keeper.

I thought that lob would go in too if he hit it cleanly, but he missed it ffs. Weird, if anything he knows how to lob.

He's had a cracking half, to be fair.

I don't think anyone in a red shirt had a cracking half. Maybe one of the defenders. Welbeck was decent. We hardly had the ball. And when the best chance came due to his pace and movement, he screwed it up with a poor finish.

God that was pathetic for a pro footballer, it wouldn't have even reached the net anyway.

He's had a great half. The one thing we know about him is that the longer he gets to think about a chance, the less likely he is to score it. I had only minimal hopes of him putting that one away.

WELBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECK.
Well, all will be forgiven if we get some kind of advantage this match. But man, you can't miss these, a chance this clear at this stage doesn't happen often.

Nah, He is picked first and formost to score goals. Was a sitter, a genuine world striker should be scoring those 10/10 times.

Sure, his team contribution has been great, but he needs to score.

So yea his overall contribution is great but he missed a 1v1 so therefore he had a bad half?

Brilliant. Ignore all the good stuff.

Yeah, think he was just caught in two minds and ended up making a mess of it. Playing really well so you'd think he'd put it away

Scored one on one with Lloris, and Mignolet with chipped finishes in the last year.

And Swansea on the first game of the season.

He's easily our most dangerous player and if we can find him on the break then we'll get chances.

You can see that he adds so much to the team with his pace and movement.

However he has to learn how to take chances like that to he a top striker. Inexcusable.

They look very uncomfortable with him at the back. He's a fantastic outlet for us.

Obviously, having a striker be involved is good and all, but missing a chance as clear as this is unforgiveable. I'm hopeful he will redeem himself

Good save, but it was just poor shot selection.
I think the 'keeper came out quickly and didn't sell himself, which led to indecision from Welbeck.

That said, he still needs to score those.

Like Van Persie last year in the Champions League.

The thing is, because it's Danny and he's known for apparently missing easy chances, it will just add to the ammunition of the critics. Don't get me wrong, he should definitely be scoring the chance he had, but lets not forget Van Persie's miss at Madrid last season, or even the one against Arsenal this season when it finished 0-0. It happens to the best of them.

I just hope this miss doesn't make him hide away from getting into dangerous areas, because yet again he's arguably been our best player going forward. He's such a threat.

He lacks composure. He might get that just be becoming an older man. Everything else is pretty solid.

In a game of this magnitude, played at this level, given our current circumstances. Yes. I stand by my assessment.

In games like this, you defend for your life and pray that you get all the luck in the world. If that comes off, you know at some point you will get a clear chance and you simply have to put it away. Welbeck did not.

I hope we dont regret it.

How long are we going to say Welbeck is good apart from the goalscoring. He needs to work on his finishing. He is no longer 19 and his is in his 3rd season as a 1st team player.

In the end, his miss did not affect us as badly as it might of. Great performance from him. He is gaining quite a reputation as a 'defensive striker'.

But thats the rub. He is an attacker. I wish he could develop Ruud VN like finishing skills and he would then be one of the best in the world.

He has to remedy this problem, else we cant plan for him having a long career with us as a main man striker.

His disallowed goal was harsh too in my opinion. Martinez ducked down. Could have gone either way.

He's a million times more useful than Hernandez, and he gave Boateng in particular a very tough game.

Great performance in another big game by Welbeck. Also, his miss was negated by the fact that we eventually scored first, at a point in the game where Bayern had less time to reassess the situation, so I wouldn't be too harsh on him.

His goal should have stood, terrible call from the ref. Wasn't a high foot for me, Martinez dipped his head.

Great performance but, as usual, missed the easy one, which is the opposite of what you need from a striker in major games.

Once again our most dangerous player, defenders don't enjoy playing against him at all, cracking player, shame about the miss though. Gave Martinez awful lot to do, and he hardly ever lost the duel both aerial and ground against their defenders.

Overall he was brilliant however that miss was shocking. I'm still annoyed about it. I really do hesitate to call him a striker because his finishing is deplorable at times.

Can't really blame him, he tried to do something the keeper wasn't expecting and was ill-prepared for, just didn't quite get it right. Even had he gone a more conventional route he still might not have scored, remember Hernandez in the COC game?

Love this guy, he gets better and will be a massive player for us in the next few seasons.

He's given Real Madrid and Bayern Munich the runaround in the last 12 months.

He is a great outlet but he really needs to practice his finishing. His goal should have stood. hould have 3-1 to United really!

Bit Saha-esque at the moment. A generally good finisher who loves a spectacular miss.

Did the same to Madrid last year; fantastic option against top teams playing a high line - shocking decision to chip Neuer though.

Yes, still annoyed by that. I've been waiting years for him to become a player who can put away chances regularly. But never seems to make that jump.

But he's certainly going to be a big player in the next leg. Maybe he's saving us a goal in that one...

Only bad thing about tonight from Danny was the decision too try and chip the keeper. Apart from that, his goal should have stood and was a cracker. He was our most dangerous player I thought, absolutely ran their defense ragid at times. I thought when he was about to go through one on one and the Ref gave it as a foul it probably wasn't.

His biggest moment for me though was for our goal, he took Neuer out the game standing in front of him and refusing too move. He made Neuer push him twice meaning he couldn't get across the goal too try and stop Vidic's header.

Looks like he's our main weapon as a counter-attacking team in the CL. His pace and strength on the ball is top-notch.
