I couldn't see the game live tonight but heard something about him testing Hart with a (back)flick similar to the one he scored for England (the winning goal which for some reason seems to have been forgotten by all England pundits)? If so, then in which minute did this happen please?

Around the 70th minute. Video below:

Welbeck is becoming a very important player for Manchester United. Not many would have imagined that considering his last season. He needs to be rewarded and played in the striker role. When played in this role, with adequate support and performing teammates United play much more fluid football.

It is good to see though that he is becoming more influential in a wide left role than he was for United last season.

He looks almost as good for us now as he does for England, and I think that's concerning and a sign we've more than met him in the middle.

I think I wish he'd scored that not so much so we would have had a brilliant goal and a chance at a come back, but more because literally every single match he plays in without scoring sees a crowd of fecking geniuses claiming he's not good enough.

What was he doing on corners? He was just stood on the edge of the six yard box hopping from foot to foot. If he was on the post he could have cleared Dzeko's second, and he did the same thing for Fernandhino's missed chance from Kompany's flick on. Its basics.

Him and Rafael were in no mans land for corners.

The problem runs deeper than Welbeck. Our defending from set-pieces has been pish all season. With or without Danny.

Yes he's not entirely to blame as it looks like a tactical choice and that he was following instructions. For Dzeko's volley he must have made contact with the ball no more than 4 yards away from where Danny was standing, and during the entire flight of the ball Welbeck didn't make one move towards the ball which I'm assuming is down to instructions. The rest of the defence were clearly on a man marking tactic but it looked like the role of Welbeck was to be a front post zonal defender.

I honestly couldn't work out how we were setting up to defend corners. The really worrying thing was that it blatantly wasn't working, yet nothing changed.

Been an issue all season too. Far too vulnerable at set-pieces. Considering our new manager is supposed to be, at the very least, defensively astute it's a real fecking worry.

Why does he always slip/fall over every single game?

This. When he wasnt slipping and falling he was losing control of the ball yesterday. With that little bit more care and balance he could have been so effective against a not particularly mobile backline. So sad

Expected him to score. Disappointing really.

Our best attacker in the first half though.

Best player for us today but man, he needs finishing lessons from Heskey

Best way to sum up Welbeck: Makes the hard stuff look easy; makes the easy stuff look hard. Best player in a red shirt wastes our best chance.

The only people who expected him to score are the ones who have never seen him play. I didn't even move a muscle when he ran clean through on goal with all the time in the world. Closed my eyes and expected to open them to see either the ball in row Z or in Neuer's hands.

Summed it up that chance. Brilliant run. Great movement and pace to get past Boateng and then screws up the final shot.

Outside the box he's been brilliant, better than Rooney tonight just like in Madrid last season, but inside the box...

If he could just sort out his finishing he'd be a world beater.

Played so well and then misses a one on one (again) at this level you need forwards that can finish. Not good enough.

That miss is going to be held against him for a good few years isnt it.

The wankers insisting they didn't even stand up when through on goal realise how daft they look, right? You'd be excited if De Gea was through on goal, spastics.

Ffs Danny boy, playing so well only to miss an easy chance.

He missed a 1v1 in a big match, it happens to every striker. Let's not forget the Bernabeu.

To be fair he is usually a decent finisher in the big games, and he has been the best player in that half.. most threatening off either team.

Better players missed better chances. Seriously he is very much good enough. Good half but needs to bury those chances.

Hit the ball Danny you absolute plank. Honestly. Can't do the simple things so has to try something ridiculous.

Scored one on one with Lloris, and Mignolet with chipped finishes in the last year.

He's had a cracking half, to be fair.

Nah, He is picked first and formost to score goals. Was a sitter, a genuine world striker should be scoring those 10/10 times.

Sure, his team contribution has been great, but he needs to score.
