A finish from a confident/in form striker. He would never had scored that last season. Keep it up Welbs

I actually thought Danny was brilliant again. He's clearly suited to a high tempo game and when we do play like that he's impressive.

Welbeck has as many league goals as Negredo and Giroud. He's played less games than them too.

Much better second half, as it was from everyone. Our slow paced game doesn't suit anyone in our team, no idea why we try to make it work.

It turns out that when Welbeck actually getst he chance to play up front and isn't pissing about on the left wing, that he can score some goals
:p
who knew.

A very good second half example of how we need to play with him as a lone front man. High tempo and with players getting up to support him and breaking ahead. Him drifting around is not an issue as that is actually what modern day lone strikers are supposed to do, its all about how the players around him support his runs.

Nine times out of ten if you push the ball into his feet he holds it up in most positions and has the technical ability to bring others into play if they are making the right runs.

On fire. When you score on deflections it can't help but boost confidence. A goal a game from Danny so far and it makes him almost unstoppable for next weeks match. Hopefully he continues his goal scoring run because we really need goals right now.

I fecking love him.

Everything about him. His pace. His magnificent strength and trickery. The fact he can sometimes look like Bambi on ice. I love everything about him.

Very happy with the goal threat he's showing these days. He's become much more effective at leading the line. His link up play and movement is among the slickest players in our squad.

It's also better when he doesn't have much time to think about chances on goal. Instinctive strikes suit him. He missed a sitter but the touch for the second was the luck he earned himself.

Works his bollocks off, getting goals now too, shouldn't be dropped for RVP or Rooney whenever they come back.

I'm glad he's scoring goals now. He used to infuriate me with all those missed sitters. This patch of form means Rooney and RVP won't be rushed back from injury.

Probably should have done better with his chance first half, not easy but should have at least made the keeper work. Glad he scored later as otherwise people would ignore the other good work he did and just remember the miss.

His contribution to the game has always been good and the only question about his quality was his composure inside the box. How many times have we seen Welbeck make a run from midfield goes past 2 men, gets inside the box and then falls over when he tries the finish or scuff the shot? I hope this run can continue because he will obviously build more and more confidence which in turn will make him more comfortable inside the box.

Somebody called him an anti striker in the matchday thread today.

We do have a lot of sh!t fans though.

Anyone who watches football understands you'll score more as a striker when you get to play ...as a striker

Great finish.

He'll break his best ever tally for us at this rate. I think he'll get 15 goals easily, which is a good return for a third choice striker.

apart from his finishing really though. if he was clinical it would be hard to ever drop him.

He's not been bad of late! I still think he needs to get on the end of more, and back himself a bit more when he's running at defenders. I think there is still more to come.

certainly better but to be considered clinical we shouldn't even have to discuss that first half miss. that was a sitter. think of what solskjaer would have done with that for example. or van nistelrooy. completely ruthless, not all the time, but with chances like that certainly. if we had lost that game people would want him crucified.

Well none of our strikers are clinical, they've all missed far easier chances this season.

im not trying to be critical of welbeck as my initial post proves. but id back every other striker we have ahead of him. thankfully, it looks like something hes improving on which will be fantastic as very little else in his game needed work other than goals.

Sorry, didn't mean to make it seem like I was particularly picking on you!

I stand by it. If there was a good chance once in a match you should want it to fall to your striker - that's what they're there for.

It was a lovely dinked goal, but it doesn't excuse his profligacy. It's like the last Swansea match when Hernandez was being lauded for scoring when he was terrible in almost every other minute of the match.

I love Danny and I'm sure we'll keep him and he'll improve over time, but he really does need to up his finishing. Credit to him, he worked hard and did his best to make up for it. That's about all you can ask.

He's started 8 games as one of the front 2 and scored 7 from those starts. 1 goal from 4 on the wing. 1 goal from his sub exploits.

Now that he's doing it somewhat at club level and he's proved himself as a useful player for England, will he be first choice this summer providing he carries on?

I'll put my hands up: was very critical about him the start of the season, but he's come back to score 8 prem goals and scrapping with the likes of Negredo and Giroud who are regular starters for their teams. Really good to see and I hope he continues this form.

Can't remember it exactly but I'm pretty sure he could've taken another touch on that miss today. Was a bad one but his overall play and goal more than made up for it. So good at keeping the ball and getting it to a teammate.

This seems like such a strange thing to say when he's currently one of the most prolific strikers in the league. Only 6 strikers have scored more than him - Suárez, Rooney, Aguero, Sturridge, Remy and Lukaku. I don't think Sturridge or Lukaku are any more clinical myself. He's scored 8 goals in the league from 31 shots so far compared to 9 in 41 for Sturridge or 9 in 53 for Lukaku. People love to wax lyrical about Lukaku on here but look at the sitter he missed today - far worse than Welbeck's miss today. And in general he's not very clinical either. And he gives the ball away about half the time he gets it. Yet for some reason Lukaku's hyped to the heavens in a way Welbeck never has been. I find that strange myself.
