I just hope this run of good form leads to him never playing wide-left again.

It's such a waste of his talent playing out there, and also, juxtapositionally, is a negative tactic on our behalf.

I understand and agree with your sentiments (he is completely wasted on the wing) but 'never' is extreme, because he isn't likely to keep RvP out. When RvP and Rooney are both fit they'll be the first choice pairing through the middle which means Welbeck's games are likely to come from the left unless RvP or Rooney are injured/rested. I wouldn't mind us playing two inside forwards (Rooney and Welbeck) behind RvP because they'll both do their fair share defensively and both help create through the middle. But I can't see us going wingerless despite the fact that our creativity from wide areas has been shite for at least two seasons.

It would be great for us and for him if he could take some of what he's doing now and apply that when he does play wide. We really lack players who will come inside of the flanks and give a different sort of passing option. For him it's a route in to the team when RVP and Rooney are both fit.

Welbeck has scored seven out of eight clear-cut chances he has had this season. He's converted 88% of his clear-cut chances - that's more than any other striker in the league. He's played over 131 minutes: scored 7 goals and has 3 assists.

That was quite unbelievable, not even hit the target from there.

Shame, was hoping he'd pick up the rhythm as he looked quite good off late.

Should have scored.

He's had a good game though. Enjoyed watching his first half performance.

I dont think that chance was as easy as people are making out.

Should have hit the target alright but he's playing very well lately and playing with confidence which is good to see.

It wasn't an easy chance by any means but he shouldn't be missing the target at the other side of the net.

Welbeck is the first striker ever to miss a chance you know. To be honest most of the reaction is probably down to the fact none of us believe we'll create another opening like that.

I have seen Rooney miss a chance like that as well, it happen. But, his footballing brain is very, very avrage.

I think he is a better option than Hernandez right now, but he should keep a bit further up the pitch.

Is exactly how I feel. It just feels like at home with 34% possession (yes you heard me right), opportunities like that are once in a game, ridiculous really. But yeah, shame he didn't slot that one.

 It was a good chance but feck me, 'unbelievable'?

He's had a good game so far.

He's been on a run of goal scoring form, yet the first good chance he's missed and he's getting stick for it.

It was a sitter for a premier league striker.
It'd be very hard for me though.

People miss.. It's alright.. but that chance was very easy.

It was a pretty easy chance. All strikers at any level will tell you that. What amazes me is how he manages to fall over and scuff his shot every time he shoots.

Missed a glorious chance. Just feel he needs a strike partner. Januzaj is not that. Why moyes doesn't use kagawa in the hole and Januzaj on the wing I'll never know. We just seem to have huge gaps between midfield and attack.

Your football brain is the one that is average, Danny is one our best players at linking up play not his fault the midfield behind him is utterly inept.

He can play that role perfectly when supported by runners from deep and decent passing to feet, two things that have been in woefully short supply today hence why he has had only one chance(that he should have taken in fairness) in 45 mins of football.

He drifts around too much. His best performances seemingly come when he's paired with another forward and can make those runs in/around.

He's best in a free role but he's nowhere near good enough to get one, that's the problem. He's not that great at leading the line because he drifts around far too much.

He can play up top if he team is playing well. When we're playing like have this season then he has no choice but to drop deep and do something

I disagree with this. Welbeck has already proven to us that he can lead a line. As a striker, you're meant to move around, that's one of the primary jobs. Van Persie does the same job (bar runs in behind) but is superior at doing it.

If he hits the target and the keeper saves it we'd be saying that it's a good effort. It's an easy chance for the likes of Suarez and van Persie. It's a decent chance for Welbeck.

It reminds me of Berbatov up top alone, how he would drift around/drop deep and then no other player was up top or making those runs. It worked well when the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo would cover the space up top when Saha, Berbatov, or Tevez would drift and drop. It doesn't with this setup. Valencia hugs the line all day, Kagawa doesn't seemingly fit in this squad/league, Januzaj offers the only threat seemingly. I'm actually crying for Young in this match. feck me.

Should really, really score there. Can't ask for a much better opportunity. But he's been one of the few players likely to make things happen.

He's good every now and then at it, but he's not consistent with his striking play. Sure he has to move around, but welbeck goes way too deep rather then moving around the front line to the sides and stuff. He plays like if he had Rooney or rvp there with him all the time, even though he's the main striker today.

The modern day lone front man is supposed to do exactly what some are criticizing him for; to drift around. The whole idea is for him to do this in areas in the final third and for team mates to move ahead and around him into more attacking positions. That hasn't happened so far in the game today.
