I defo agree Drainy. Im more saying about how people slated him when he was played out of position. Its like when Smalling or Jones play RB and people diss them for not being proper RBs (but wouldnt do it if Vidic was thrown there and couldnt cross)

Danny defo plays better up top stretching the play as it also brings the best out of Rooney.

Maybe what's been said is why we're seeing him play this well.

That's not the point. Welbeck scored 2 goals, and still Moyes found something negative to say on the press about him. That comment made Welbeck had to defend his position on the press also. It hints a 'discontent' in United camp, which is not what you need for a big club like United.

Rubbish, there is nothing wrong with a manager stating his position on how a player can continue to improve in the press. The response suggests that Danny wasn't offended, he should however feel like a challenge was put down and good players respond to those.

Didn't see the goal, was it good?

@Lynk

Wonderful approach play between Welbeck and Rooney and he finished from a tight angle with his left. Keeper should have probably done better.

Still, it was strong shot with his weaker foot, I would call it more as nice finish than mistake from keeper.

If it's a reoccurrence of his knee injury then that isn't good, I read an article when he was out saying he could need an operation, then a week later he was suddenly back, so if he is indeed out again then presumably he'll now be having that operation. He's playing well too, it'll be a massive blow for him.

Hope it's not his knee again. I read somewhere that he's already had some cartilage removed and that his being out for several weeks not long ago was due to inflammation of remaining cartilage. Another operation at his age would be very bad news. This is the same shit that fecked up Ledley King's career.

Hopefully it was more precautionary than anything else, would really hate to see him injured again when he's looking like he's finding his goalscoring form.

So frustrated for Danny. Everytime he gets a good run going he seems to reinjure himself. Its hard for him to keep his place in the team when this always happens. Hopefully its nothing serious because we need him for the busy schedule coming up.

A well taken goal, great to see. Hopefully he isn't injured and it was more precaution that forced him off as he is in a bit of a purple patch right now in front of goal. It would be a shame for it to end now, as you can see his confidence is sky high right now

Hope it was precautionary more than anything, might have been due to overstretching for the Januzaj cross?

Looked good today, unlucky with the injury though. Good finish as well, surprisingly, even though it was pretty poor keeping. Welbeck couldn't have done much more though. I'm glad we're not playing him on the wing though. He's not a winger in any way, he looks lost out there, and all of his play goes to shit. He looks much more confident right now (as does everyone).

Surprised to see him score 'that goal. It didn't feel like the sort of chances Welbeck would usually score from. Pleased with his form.

I didn't even entertain the thought of a goal until he shot and scored. But hopefully this gives him a lot more confidence and he starts being more selfish ala Sturridge.

I said he's good enough to play for United where he was ridiculed here and I stick by that. The improvement of his finishing has been there for all to see since the start of the new season. When he's actually played as a striker.

I'm glad he's scoring goals now. His (poor) finishing was infuriating. If he keeps improving he has the ability to become a complete striker. A footballer especially a striker should never have his workrate as his outstanding quality.

Moyes said it was a sore knee, i think. Hopefully it heals up in a couple of days and Hernandez can take his place in the next game

because of the way hes played this season when the ball fell to him today i was waiting for either collins to tackle or for him to fail to square it. instead he buried it convincingly, thats what confidence does. as you said, the other parts of his game were already there, if he starts scoring properly he'll be fantastic.

The type of goal that Welbeck needs to improve on, so it was great to see. On his weaker foot also, very positive to see.

It never has been his outstanding quality. The combination play he showed for both of the first two goals has always been far more impressive, for one.

He'd usually try and square that, especially on his left. Sign of where his confidence is at right now.

Along with many many others. It was only the minority that thought otherwise.

Thought he was better against Villa personally.

Same, he was bit isolated in this game, especially before the goal, shame about the injury though.

Welbeck is magic. Been a huge fan for a long time. The only disappointment in signing rvp was that Danny was going to lose his place in the line up. So last year his progress stalled somewhat and he had to play on the wing a lot. Yet, in the grand scheme of things, it has probably made him a more rounded footballer. His work rate and movement have always been terrific, yet it is his link up play that has always impressed me the most. Playing through the center, you see what a threat he can be. Really, really pleased for him. Glad that the haters have been shut up for now. Until next time anyway.

It's no coincidence IMO, that his return to a central berth is seeing a return to form of Cleverly too. They link up so well, and have done since youth level and England u21 duty. Tom was quietly excellent today. Always, always available for a pass and just never gave it away. Rooney, Clevs, Danny and Adnan can really keep the ball moving around excellently.

Even more games as a striker may and probably will sharpen that finishing in even more effective way.

Aspects like pace, physicality and character are already there from quite a time.

Good post. I love Danny, I honestly don't understand the guys who don't feel the same way. All the raw tools are there. When it clicks, and if and when he gets a shot as a #9 on a regular basis it will, then there is a hell of a striker to be seen.
