Gotta' be honest. He's one of my favourite players at United. Bags of skill, technically very good and has got goals him. Proper United striker.

Of course they are gay, instead of going shopping with the mrs on saturdays they run around getting all sweaty with other men and then SHOWER WITH THEM!!!! Ffs

Even if they are so what, it really is irrelevant

Didn't Welbeck just sign a new contract with us recently along with Cleverley?

There were rumours that he was being offered a new contract in October and November. I thought he actually signed one too but it turns out he never did. The last contract he signed was in 2009 and expires in June 2013:

I can't see him going anywhere. Perhaps if he wasn't getting much game time but he's been playing quite a lot when fit. Certainly can't see him leaving over money. Not much to worry about I think, though it is strange that he hasn't signed a new contract yet unless we were never going to offer him once when the papers said we did.

The second google suggestion is "Is Danny Welbeck...injured" so I assume he's out for a while.

I would have thought Morison would take note of how the likes of Welbeck is being given a chance in the 1st team, and thus want to sign a contract knowing SAF give kids a chance.

A shame he seems very injury-prone but he's had a great first proper season at the club. Keeping Hernandez out tells the story, doesn't it?

In the post match interview Fergie said it was a twisted knee and he should be OK but we'll possibly find out more tomorrow when they all return to training.
Maybe just strained a ligament or something

Hope he makes arsenal - he was excellent against them last time until his hamstring went

I still think 4-3-3 is what we should play against them.

But hopefully he'll be ready to be on the bench.

Same. Hope he stays for years and years!

Of course we did well enough against them with a 4231 [or 442 if you prefer], but I'd like to see us play some more 433 with Welbeck on the left and Nani on the right of Rooney.

Drop one of the most in form players in Valencia?

Rather ask Rooney to drop deeper and help out the midfield.

Really excited about Welbeck's progress. He's a great asset for us already and I think there's still alot of improvement to come from him in terms of his end product, which is already good.

I have to say, alot of the 'new blood' in the squad over the last 12-18 months are amongst my favourite United players; Welbeck, Smalling, Cleverley, Jones are all exciting talents and it's great to see some young English players in the fold, particularly those that have come through the academy.

He is fast becoming one of my favourite United players, alongside with Cleverley, Jones and Smalling. I am very optimistic about our future.

I saw him out last night, so it cant be that bad. As for Smalling and gay, saw him with a bird, so all calm.

Welbeck is one of my favourite players already, so much skills and class already, plus an immense work rate

So the jury's still out on Wellbeck though?

From F365's Winners and Losers column
Darren Bent and Danny Welbeck
Better from Bent with his goal against Everton only his third in four months but it's the increasingly assured United youngster who would be leading England's attack if the Euro Championship was to begin tomorrow

How different Welbeck's season would surely have been if, back in August, his pending substitution against Tottenham had taken place before rather than long after his ice-breaking goal. At that point - and not just during his anonymity in the first hour against Spurs - he appeared out of his depth. Not now. Having come a long way in a short period time, he's keeping out Javier Hernandez and Dimi Berbatov on merit and looks a bona fide Manchester United player. And when you're good enough for Manchester United, you're definitely good enough for the step down to international level.

The author is usually bitter and lacks perspective, so I am pleasantly surprised by the praise our boy is getting, even though the author doesn't seem to have seen much of him before the Tottenham match

Yeah but watch Barcelona, their front players contribute a massive amount by hassling the oppo defence and midfield.

Oh indeed, it's a fantastic trait that he has... Just the quote by itself made me chuckle because it's just very English isn't it? The I like said striker 'cos he gets stuck in...

Obviously I imagine Pogue likes him firstly for his technique/finishing/pace etc. ... but as a stand-alone quote, I found it humerous.

Whilst you're right, and I fully agree... how very typically "English" is this quote?!

Hard work is so important. Obviously Welbeck is a fantastic player as well which helps. In this modern day there is not a lot of room for luxury players as the game has become so frantic.

Pogue is actually Peter Reid. He does a damn good impression on here of supporting United, knowing about the NHS, and stringing sequences of words together in coherent sentences, but occasionally he slips up.

The problem is that it's only effective when the whole team does it. If it's just the one striker, it's only a waste of energy. In Barcelona, this hassling of the defenders is an essential part of their system.

According to reports Manchester United are running the risk of losing striker Danny Welbeck in the summer.

The in-form forward, who scored in Saturday's 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers, is understood to be involved in a contract dispute at Old Trafford.

The England international has 18 months to run on his current deal, but it is believed that he and the club are no closer to agreeing a new contract.

It is suggested that Welbeck wants £60,000-a-week, a figure United are reckoned to be reluctant to meet.

Welbeck is one of three youngsters involved in discussions over new deals at Old Trafford, with Ravel Morrison and Paul Pogba also in talks.

Heck 60,000 seems darn reasonable for a player of his ability.

Normal contract wrangling nowadays. Hopefully him and his agent don´t push it as far as Rooney.

The Rooney case has really set a dangerous precedent if the state of affairs is indeed as it seems.

This.

Couple of years back we rarely heard our players threatening the club for better contracts.

And not especially players who have come through the academy.

If this is true then I doubt it's over us not wanting to give him 60k. That seems very cheap, considering he's our first choice striker and his performances. And it is quite possible he'll shine even more, so he'll be in an even better bargaining position. Just get him what he wants, he deserves it.
