The oppsite can be asked too. The fact is they are equally as good. Comparing them rather than appreciating having both is silly.

Agreed. Both very good footballers at a very young age. I do think welbeck will become the better player if he fulfils his potential though.

Gorgeous

A good selection headache for future England sides. Both of these lads should be more than a handful at the Euros.

What do you mean "appreciating having both"? Sturridge plays for Chelsea, Welbeck for United......
Having both playing at their trade at the same time.

I'm glad it's not the othe way round.
Which isn't saying much. You'd say exactly the same if their Danny was here and ours was there.

Personally I don't see why there's this incessant need by posters on the cafe to compare them. They aren't the same type of player at all.

Play them both upfront with Rooney. And a mid three of Wilshire, Cleverly and Jones. That's England sorted!

I rather think there's not enough being made of this. We've actually brought through a striker, from our academy, and he's local. And he just scored a stunning goal as we beat our local rivals in their own backyard to abruptly end their defense of the only trophy they've won in four decades.

It'd be nice if we could have a bit more joy around here, considering the above is almost exactly the perfect scenario for a Manchester United fan.

Joy on the caf is simply not allowed until we thrash Barcelona in a CL Final

But yes, not enough is being made of Welbeck's progress and the match yesterday. I suppose the nature of the 2nd half took the sheen off the 1st half performance.

Having watched a fair bit of Welbeck at Sunderland I personally doubted whether Welbeck would make the grade at United as a first team regular but have been very impressed with his development so far, he's really coming on.

Great athlete and willing runner and his movement looks good. Very promising.

He still looks a bit skinny and you can tell there's more filling out to come. Which is encouraging because he's already a fine athlete.

No I wouldn't. Welbeck's the better player you see. Or at least, he soon will be.

Not interested in comparisons with Sturridge. Welbeck is our boy and he's been one of the shining lights of our season.

Just needs to add some consistency to his game, but his looked every bit a MUFC first XI quality player this season.

Personally I thought Welbeck was a bit over hyped, but seeing his progress and potential, I think he is currently underrated a bit, especially by the media & pundits there in your country.

This season: 14 starts, 7 goals. That's pretty consistent.

We look a better team with him in it, I think. Which is a huge compliment given the other forwards we have available.

So you claim/believe, which is fair enough tbf.

Personally, I'm yet to see any evidence of that, for their season thus far have been equally as good in my book. I'm willing to bet both will become stars for their respective clubs. Curving out a niche for themselves in their own individual style.

It's becoming a bit tiresome that every time Welbeck is being discussed somebody brings Sturridge into it.

Would be nice on paper but then England often look nice on paper, still would need pitch time and training work together, which is often the problem. Although have more players from one club would help, in terms of understanding, a la Spain. Welbeck seems to work well with Clev.

Think its because they are both young, black, pacey strikers coming through at the same time who've both been out on loan spells to lower clubs recently. I think they are similar players although Welbeck has better vision, creativity and Sturridge seems slightly more potent in front of goal. He does shot more than Lampard though.

*waits for the comment....................

I've been critical of him recently but he was superb in the last game. Promising signs.

Welbeck's finish was incredible. Stretching and volleying on the turn and keeping the ball low, whilst finding the corner. Add to that the pressure of having to get the ball ahead of the oncoming defender and I think it makes it one of the finishes of the season. The lad has a lot of potential.

They have different qualities. Hernandez is in a spell of poor form, which is very common for your second season when defenders work you out a bit. But he's an absolutely lethal finisher. Welbeck's build-up play is better, but he is prone to disappearing. I don't see a gulf in class there.

I agree, Welbeck offers more outside the box and Hernandez is the best finisher at the club. People also forget that Hernandez has played an awful lot of football in the past couple of seasons. He played at the world cup, then had a season with us and went off to the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The guy hasn't had a proper rest from football in two pre seasons, and he's had concussion and an ankle injury recently. There's still nobody I'd rather see the ball drop to in the box.

I love him more and more every time I see him play. A star in the making.

Fantastic attitude, very humble. Take note Ravel.

Sat in some dark basement, Scholesy disagrees.

Good point actually, he must be exhausted.

Wake up, this is the 21st century. That just isn't going to cut it.

When a sixty-million GBP Bolivian trequarista with a killer name like Pablo dos Escobar del valle de los Coyotes Grandos (commonly known as Edgar) comes on for us and beats six defenders before rounding the goalkeeper, then just for fun, lets the goalkeeper back in goal before chipping him while he's on his line, give us a call and we'll break out the party streamers.

Danny Welbeck.

With regards to Hernandez and Welbeck - I think they'd actually make a pretty good partnership, which would be a nice option to have.

He's really coming on fantastically. For a good few years we kept hearing about his promise and his supposed excellence in training, but that wasn't reflected in the limited number of appearances he received.

Fast forward to now and he looks like the real deal. If he can keep progressing like this, well, we all know how good he could become. Our attacking threat is looking bright for the upcoming years with him, Rooney and Hernandez on the books.

Delighted for him when he got that goal. Great finish. Danny 'Lego Hair' Welbeck.

I rate both Welbeck and Sturridge highly, but Welbeck is always one of our best players in the big games. I'd argue he's been our MOTM at least twice against City this season. He was also one of our best performers against City in the Charity Shield. I'm not sure if Sturridge has been as influential against the top teams, though I probably haven't seen all of Chelseas games against the big teams.

Sturridge doesn't have the intelligence of Welbeck

He's already scored against Arsenal, City, Chelsea and Spurs. That's the remaining three teams from this season's top four, in there somewhere. Big game player.

As has been said before who gives a flying feck about Sturridge, just revel in the fact we have a born and bred Mancunian playing some excellent football for us in the infancy of his career.

Won the penalty that won us the game, as well.

It's very impressive he's been able to claim a starting role for us considering he's competing with Berbatov and Chicharito, two of the best strikers in the EPL.

Sir Alex has already tried playing Welbeck with Rooney and Chicharito once, I don't doubt we'll see it again, it's got to be hard to keep any one of them out of the team.
