The stick he gets is totally undeserved, There is a reason Sir Alex starts him in the big matches and that's because he's a bit fecking good.

Brilliant.

A big feck you to my comments before the match. Hope he kicks on.

I worked my ass off to defend Welbeck in last few months here, and he proved in every big game how good he is. From midfield to attack, our best player by mile tonight.

Welbeck has played consistently well played outside the penalty area in most games. People have have generally based their opinions on his lack of goal scoring, which to be fair, has been his weakest aspects of his game, this season. He has also been played out of his best position a lot during his United career.

What a night for him. He shouldn't play many games out there, but whatever plan Sir Alex has for these tough games, Welbeck is executing it better than the other wingers. Only Young has really challenged him. He just has all the right attributes, he pressed better than any of our attackers, the ball stuck to him when we needed to hold it up and he showed great strength and speed on his runs.

Excellent performance from Welbeck, highlighted by a well-taken goal. I’m delighted that he was able to fully justify his selection for tonight’s’ important match. Hopefully, his vital goal today will give him a boost in confidence to get on the scoring sheet on a more regular basis.

There was some pretty decent attacking talent on that pitch tonight, and he didn't look at all out of place.

I hope this goal gives him his oomph back in front of goal.

Judging by all your reactions, I could probably do with watching the game again. Thought he was completely ineffective most of the game, apart from the moment when he scored an incredibly important goal. The Anti-Welbeck performance, really. No? Okay. I'll sit in the corner and be quiet.

It was exactly the performance Fergie put him in for. He never stopped running, never gave Real a moments rest in any position and caused them real problems albeit mostly away from the goal. The fact he scored was a bonus and he could have had two. This is exactly why his future isn't threatend at the club despite his lack of goals.

If I haven't mentioned I absolutely love Danny Welbeck, let me do so now.

It has to be a dream come true for a boy from Longsight that grew up supporting United to walk onto the pitch of the Bernabeu wearing Manchester red and score a beautiful goal.

Why do people praise him just beacuse his workrate? His link up play is excellent, his passing is very good, his technique is excellent, and he is intelligent footballer, it isn't just his running what makes him good player.

He was amazing tonight. He was a more effective outlet than RvP and hassled and Harried Madrid all night. He both won his own ball and won every ball played to him. Magnificent performance and ran himself into the ground. We were a worse team after he went off.

To be honest when I saw the team sheet with his name, I wasn't confident. But boy, did he prove me wrong. What a performance from him and hopefully he isn't injured.

I think most of us were surprised to see him start, but he was great, and so was Ferguson for putting him in there.

Just seen his touch that clipped the keeper, again.
I thought at the time that he was too far away to get it, but I didn't account for his "go,go gadget-leg!"

Did you notice when Rooney was stretching his cramp that his leg was about chest height on Rooney? Crazy.

I hope people stop talking about him needing a loan move now. The lad is fantastic, so happy to see him doing well.

Christ what was the Real player on the 'post' doing, he wasn't even on the post!

Good game from him today. Won and held the ball up well in the opposition half when opportunity presented themselves. Good to see him actually getting a goal to reward all the good work he does on the pitch. Nice header as well.

I'll never forgive Hodgson for his decision in England's match against Italy. To send Welbs on the bench and replace him with Carroll simply killed England's game.

The movement is one thing but that goal may be the key to go through. Incredible combination of physicality and pace. He's going to be a complete, offensive player in full meaning of the word, very soon, at this rate.

Possibly, his most important performance, so far.

Ye. Always love the boy. That game against Chelsea when he was at Sunderland, just sealed it for me that he'll make it at United. Big time.

There are few weaknesses (i.e. composure in front of goal), but everything about him is just pointing to be a world class player. Just like de Gea.
