Danny Rose

Given how Levy the leech has fleeced us in the past...no thanks! Everyone accepts Shaw's Utd career is at an end, but I am sure there are better, younger options out there than Rose.

People said exactly the same with Van Dijk and Wanyama.
They joined Southampton - where there is more scope for improvement and less pressure -, improved there and showed their capability. This situation is a lot different as Tierney will be expected to perform from day 1 in our main problem position.

Not sure that replacing our 22 year old, overweight, injury-prone leftback with a new 27 year old, overweight, injury-prone leftback, is the best possible business for us.

If he was that good I doubt Spurs would be that eager to get rid of him! I say get Ghoulam on a free and get a younger fullback as a development project and injury cover.

Ghoulam just did his ACL and will be out for 6months at least. Nobody knows how bad or good he will be when he returns. I'm actually willing to take the risk and invest the money on other positions.
I'd like us to sign Tierney and maybe keep him on loan to continue his development, but we don't have that luxury right now. Above all, we need an LB that will hit the ground running from day 1 and I don't think Tierney is the one. Danny Rose is good and has everything you need from a top class fullback. My own concern is his injury record. If he can prove his fitness for the rest of this season, then I reckon he is the obvious choice. If not, then go all out for Sandro or go after another LB experienced at the highest level and in his prime.

Oh my god, we are becoming the Bayern Munich in a EPL, cos we like to buy best players from small clubs like Matic, Lukaku now this Danny Rose and speculation about Willan. Please, can we get De Bruyne too?

If we were signing Ghoulam now then that would be a huge risk but by the summer transfer window, we will know whether he has fully recovered or not. We could watch him in pre-season tour games and make a decision at the time. I agree spending money on other positions is smart. We normally only have around 150m to spend per season so a couple of free transfers could really allow us to address more holes in the squad. We need two fullbacks and an RW and either a quality CM or AM or both and we need to fit all of that under our 150m budget so compromises have to be made.

If we had an unlimited budget like Man City I would get Alex Sandro as a starter and Aaron Martin as a reserve. God, I hope we get brought out by some of that oil money or Russian mobsters!

Nah we only sign the rejects. More likely to be Delph and Toure.

I agree. We should wait till the summer and simultaneously monitor Ghoulam's recovery.
But why do you think we 'need' two LB's? You keep mentioning the first choice and the reserve.

I was being sarcastic. I don't think we signed rejects, we only sign a player if they can improve us.
I was just having a laugh.
They are not actually rejects, but players their teams were/are willing to let go or players that want to leave - in the case of Ozil and Rose. I doubt we would have signed Matic if chelsea genuinely wanted to keep him. Signing players from your rivals aint a bad thing anyway; Ozil, Willian, Rose, Matic, Lukaku. Five top premier league proven players that will/have definitely improve(d) our team while simultaneously weakening our opponents.
Add Sanchez whom we have been linked to, it gets even better.

guys Ghoulam had an ACL, we can take him for a free next summer but he cant be our only option.

This just sums up the mediocrity that United fans seem content with these days. Happy with Ashley fecking Young as starting LB for a club who have spent £300M in the last 2 summers. That is simply unacceptable, imagine going up against PSG or Barca in the CL with him as LB. Yes he might look good going forward but his side is always the one being targeted, he's incredibly one footed and frankly is getting on abit now. He would be fine as back up but we need a starting LB.

I am amazed that Jose hasn't signed a single fullback in the time he's been here. Pep came in and got rid of all 4 of City's within 3 windows.

I'm also not getting this obsession with players ages, since when has this become such a big meme. Especially on this site. Its almost like a player goes to Titus Bramble level the moment they turn 28. My word. You're not winning anything with a squad of players under the age of 25. Some signing's arent needed for the next 4,5,6+ years. A stop gap is completely fine if the player is top class and that is what Rose is. He's also not as injury prone as people seem to mention, he had one major injury last season but apart from that he's had a few minor ones. He also plays for a manager who loves to rotate.

The same Ashley fecking Young who has outperformed the vast majority of his team mates over the last couple of months? Sure he is no world beater, he has his limitations like everyone else, but his ability to land a decent cross is something our team sorely lacks at present, his understanding with Martial is also an added bonus. Defensively he hasn't put a foot wrong, I cannot recall a single error of note. He deserves credit for the manner in which he has pinned down that leftback slot, which has been a problem positon for us all season long. His outstanding performances also granted him an England call-up (in front of his compatriot Danny Rose I might add).

I do agree that he needs replacing next summer, as to whom that could be is up for debate, Sandro or Rodriguez spring to mind when when thinking of attainable acquisitions. I hope it isn't Rose for the reasons stated - namely his poor attitude.

I don't get how signing Ghoulam who is now suffering from a cruciate ligament injury would be a better/wiser move than signing Rose who arguably has been more consistent and performed at a high level in a tougher league over multiple seasons.

Not to mention that Rose has recovered well from a major injury, which in the first place wasn't as career-changing as the one Ghoulam has now. Neither do i see how being sidelined due to one major injury makes a player "injury-prone".

A fully fit and rejuvenated Rose is the best choice for left back there is (alongside Alex Sandro - who'd be too expensive) and I'd get this deal done in a heartbeat.

I’m not sure I’m that excited by Rose.

He falls into Jamie Carragher’s failed winger description, he’s just coming back from a lengthy lay-off, he’s now considered a massive twat who will go and grab money because he has built a little bit of status in the last couple of years.

I just don’t think a big money move for a player who hasn’t done THAT much is worthwhile.

At the same time I don’t know of many left backs in world football who are potentially available for any less. But you’d think that’s a position we could experiment with given the fact we haven’t had a proper one for some time.

I've always liked Danny Rose as a player, and thought that he looks very much looks like a Manchester United LB in the style of Evra & Irwin.
Much has been made of his injury record, and a lot of folks branding him a crock, but looking at his history, it doesn't appear particularly unusual....

Yes he has had a couple of longer term injuries, can't hold it against any player for getting a fracture, but he doesn't seem to have the constant niggly injuries of Phil Jones, as an example.

I think he'd be a terrific addition for us, and it would be so good to have a nailed on LB rather than 'make do & mend'.

Not his biggest fan, but he's an improvement on who we have.

I really do think it's missing a trick if we don't go after Tierney though.

Would be so stupid. 28 next year, expensive, poor attitude and injury prone. Don’t get me wrong, I defended the purchase of Matic despite his age because he was a bit «one-of-a-kind». But Rose, despite being very good, is not.

Spending a huge amount on players like this is inefficient use of funds. We can’t afford that. We need to purchase players who puts us in a position where we can go for the world class-players when we have the chance.

Jorge at Monaco would probably cost a similar amount. Maybe slightly more. But he is seven years younger. In five years time we would have to spend money on replacing Rose. If we buy Jorge we could instead use that amount on competing with City, Bayern and Real for a world class-player.

FFS give it a rest

Danny Rose - experienced, PL proven (best LB in the league last 2/3 seasons), in his prime, irrefutable instant upgrade at LB, English, played with and knows several United players from international duty

Jorge - good prospect, had 10 good games for Monaco so far in Ligue 1

I'm not necessarily saying Jorge would be a bad buy, but it's a risky one for sure for a player who's inexperienced and had one 2 months of good form in European football so far in his career, compared to how proven Danny Rose is at the top level.

And yet apparently buying one the proven one would be unbelievably stupid, but buying the unproven prospect (who buy the way isn't guaranteed to continue blossoming in to a top class player, this isn't Football Manager mate) would be a great deal.

Utterly clueless.

EDIT: Oh by the way, you brought up City at the end of your post as if they know how to do things properly and are a formula to follow; didn't they just spent £45/£50m on Kyle Walker, a proven 27 year old Spurs and England full-back to instantly improve their team in a key position, rather than spend money on a prospect?

Cheaper but is he better? Totally unproven at a high level as the SPL is no better( sometimes worse) than the Championship.

If we were to go for a Championship player, I'd rather Sessegnon

Not sure if I value Danny Rose as highly as others do on here. He is a good defender, but not someone who is better than what United already have.

Also, for comparison. Tottenham conceded 9 so far, United 6. So United's defence is already better.

He's definitely better than any left back we currently have.

you can see genuine talent no matter where they play. We signed Chicarito from Mexcio and we were all excited to see that kid play. SPL of course isn't a top league as is the mexican league, but the kid is playing CL football, he recently marked Robben out of the game at Celtic park. Danny Rose does have injury concerns. We've seen other players leave Celtic in recent seasons and excel in the pl. Players like Wanyama, Van Dijk, and Forster. I follow Celtic and I think Tierney is a better talent than any of those other players, I really do. I think it will be a shame if we don't pursue him.

People said exactly the same with Van Dijk and Wanyama.

And what does that prove? Both went to Southampton, one has moved to a big club having consistently performed in the PL for a few years, the other may get that move having done the same. Its the same as Championship players getting a move to a smaller PL club and then moving on having proved they can cut it. How many players move from a Scottish side to a top 10 PL side?

The SPL is by any standards a poor league. The PL is savage for incoming players in terms of stepping up - especially for defenders - Lindelof being a good example. Its easy for half decent players to look good in the SPL. Luke Shaw would be a world beater up there. We need someone who can slot straight in and improve us immediately and Rose is one of a few left backs who could.

He certainly is better than anything we have at left back and is the best in England for the last few seasons.

For what it is worth I think Rose has been the best left back in the country the last few years but Tierney is not a kick in the ass off him nowadays. Forget the standard up here (SPL) this kid is producing a higher level of quality than Wanyama VVD or Forster ever did.
He will be a great buy whoever signs him he has a great attitude to go with his talent.

If Jose wants him then he'll improve us. He's only had one failed signing for United so far and that was Miki, and even that seems to be down to mentality rather than talent.

If that's your opinion then fair enough, but without wanting to be disrespectful Celtic play a handful of genuinely competitive fixtures a year. I can't see how it's possible, based on that to judge a player playing in that environment against a player regularly turning out in the PL - either in terms of the standard of the game overall or the pressure of playing for a top side which can be crippling to even players with huge potential like Luke Shaw.

He may very well be a very good player in the future but I can't see why United would spend money on another "project" when they need quality now.

Is Danny Rose for 40+ million pounds the best we could do? The guy isn't that good, has injury issues and that interview he's done some months back doesn't sit right with me.

Since Young turned out a solid option for the position, we should go for a younger option with potential to be one of the best LBs in the world. Tierney is one, the boy is quality.

The SPL is easily worse than the Championship. Even League One strikers like Leigh Griffiths go there and become the best striker.

Still, I think Tierney is quality though.

I like the guy, pretty excellent fitness record before this last injury and a very good defender. He's nothing special going forward though so don't expect sublime crossing. A José kind of fullback alright.

Geez. Hit a few nerves here I see. Is it cuz he is English? The left backs at United have conceded less goals than the left backs at Spurs.

Not saying he is a bad player, but he is hardly Maicon or Dani Alves level. In fact, I stand by what I say, he would not be an improvement on Blind or Young.

As soon as he puts a foot wrong one time too many you lot will turn on him quicker than the sun melts snow on a red hot summer day.
