Daniele De Rossi

De Jong would walk through him on the pitch as if he wasn't there. After watching Sully Muntari physically dominate him, I really don't rate him.

Thats fair enough mate. I can only go off what I have seen myself really and he has looked excellent both for Roma and Italy when I have seen him play.
I think he could do an excellent job for both City and United

Would he heck, De Rossi is a beast. He's just as physical as De Jong IMO.

De Rossi - from his performances for Roma against the big teams, I would rather wait for Fletcher to recover (given what seem to be the estimate of his transfer price and wages)

I really like him but I thought he was Roma through and through? I expect he'll be a 1 club man.

Did you quote and reply to yourself there?

 No, though it does look like that. I was replying to GB.

He said that De Rossi always underwhelms him so I was agreeing that I said the same thing, hence the quote, but that this Euros was different because he was brilliant throughout.

He is a brilliant defensive midfielder with incredible technique. Could be a dream signing for us as Sir Alex likes his midfielders to be capable of passing and starting attacks. Its just an added bonus as to how good he is defensively because on ability he is very capable of starting attacks, scoring from distance. Would be a shame if he ended up at city. In his case I believe all the hype is justified.

De Rossi is a fantastic player, and would be a real upgrade on both de Jong and Barry, no doubt about it. Him and Yaya together is a monstrous CM pairing.

Agreed. You've got the one who moves around a lot more, who will run all over the place, track back, run forward to support in attack, while you've got the one who will be more of a restrained sitter who can sit there and stay more in position. Both have a brilliant defensive game while they're both excellent on the ball too for the position they play. Would be the perfect combination for City.

According to Gazzetta, City have bidded 35m Euros for De Rossi and Roma are considering it.

De Rossi and Yaya Toure together!

If they manage to pair the both together they are gonna be even harder to get through next year. Him and Yaya side by side is a frightening thought.

Almost as bad as the thoughts of Keane and Vieira.

Possibly the area where they could improve even more and hopefully it doesn't happen. They will probably be in for another winger as well. :nervous:

Having said that it'd be stupidity to pay 35m Euros for a 29yr old. Also De Rossi signed a new contract recently.

He's the last surviving Keanos in the world of football.
Wish we got him.

He's not as good as Keane. To quote the chant "There's only one"

He's not in the same league as Keane (who is though), but he is a similar type of player. The mentality he'll bring to the squad will benefit them as well, because a lot of their key players are still young, whereas De Rossi is an utter pro.

Only thing i am unsure of with De Rossi is whether he could handle the pace of the PL. It is so much more physically demanding than Italy, and stamina and endurance is certainly tested far more often.

Let's not forget he is 29, he is not a young player who can adapt after a season or so. He will have to be up to speed pretty much straight away or he could end up a passenger in the more frenetic matches.

That is my only concern for him though, i have always rated him as an excellent midfielder. A more combative version of Carrick.

The thing is he's got more quality in his pinkie than De Jong in his both legs.

How would he not handle the pace? He's as seasoned as they get in football. It's an old cliche. If you're good on the ball you'll handle the league. He's good on the ball and he's mobile. Much much worse players than him doing alright in the league.

if scholes at his age can handle the pace, de rossi wont have an issue.

Calm down Snow, maybe because he has only ever played Italian football which you would have to admit is a fair bit slower than the EPL.

I never said he couldn't handle it, i said it would be my only concern regarding him.

Sky Sports understands Manchester City are stepping up their interest in Daniele De Rossi after the midfielder's agent on Thursday flew to England for talks.

The 29-year-old's future has constantly been a subject of debate but, earlier in August, Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini said: "If a monstrous bid materialised we would evaluate it.

"But we are not looking for buyers for Daniele, because he is a pillar of our team."

I don't know why you're telling me to calm down. I'm only typing in front of a monitor. I don't get worked up over internet talk. Not in the slightest. I just gave you some reasons why you should be less concerned. Fair enough to voice them but I just gave my reasons for why I wouldn't be concerned. If he were to join the PL and not play well I don't think it would be because of the pace because I've seen him handle it plenty of times before. I happened to catch a Roma-Fiorentina match (I never watch Italian football anymore) and that was a very high paced game. Like a handball match. De Rossi was good in that game like in many other. He's a consistent player at least.

Is he really 'world class' though?..
(not going to dispute it but I dunno i'm not convinced)

I thought he was a bit ordinary at the Euro and he has a bit of a mean streak in him that would be intersting if he was given a free licence.

Still think he's a cnut for dropping an elbow onto McBride's head in 06.

If Mancini brought him in and played him as a sweeper in a 3-5-2, he'd revolutionise that team.

That's a cracking shout mate. He was brilliant there for Italy and Mancini has been experimenting with three at the back in pre-season.
