Daniel Sturridge

Scholesy's definitely one of them with his 'technique is everything'.

I think FranklyVulgar and amolbahtia something or other is similar in that sense, although not quite as bad.

There are a few others too, just can't remember them off the top of my head.

City have already got Robinho,Bellamy,Bojinov,Jo,Caicedo,Santa Cruz,Evans and most likely Tevez as a competition for Sturridge. I don't think he'll have much luck getting playing time there, either.

Lets see how many of those will actually remain there once the transfer window shuts..

Bojinov, Jo, Caicedo, Evans & you forgot Benjani.. IMO they will all be gone if they sign Tevez..

so that leave them with Robinho, Santa Cruz, Bellamy, Tevez/Bojinov (depending on whether they play a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3)

as compared to Chelsea's Drogba, Anelka, Kalou & Di Santo/Pizzaro

Just saw it earlier. That's so far from being free. On one hand, good on Chelsea. On the other hand, "free" money fro City. Not like Preston and other lower league teams get the same amount of deals.

Like I said earlier in the thread, think he's a talented player. Don't see why I got knocked for saying he has good technique as if that was his only quality, when he's clearly good physically as well. I thought having good technique is what set him apart from the other young English strikers e.g. players like Agbonlahor who will be poor at International level.

I agree with you AF, like Adam Johnson... he has the technique allied with good balance/pace/footwork to be a success at international level.

He needs a consistent run of games though and that will be difficult to come by at Chelsea, in fact if he was playing for us I believe he'd be breaking into the first team on a more regular basis.

Think he's progressing well at Chelsea. England's best young forward, for me. Seems a tailor-made replacement for the ageing Anelka.

Thats still Welbeck for me who has outshone him on pretty much every occasion i've watched the U21's over the last year or so. I think Danny will be the better player of the two as he has far more in his locker. Different type of forwards I know as Danny is suited more to a wide rather than a central role.

Despite some on here praising his technique I personally just don't see it, he reminds me alot of Carlton Cole. Big and strong with pace but lacking in technique and poor finishing ability at the highest level.

Exactly the opposite when I've watched them play together. And in his matches for City and Chelsea he's impressed me more too.

His technique is just as good and his finishing is better.

I suppose its about opinions at this stage as none of us can possibly have seen enough of either player to know their games inside out. For me Danny is far better technically(better first touch, dribbling abilty and passing + vision), as for finishing sturridge is better but he needs to be as I think he will settle into the lead striker position given time, where as Danny will be a wide-forward/winger over time IMO.

I still think Sturridge strikes me as an unconfident finisher who will get better but will possibly not be as clinical as some of his approach play deserves, however perhaps thats harsh given his age. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Fkme I recently watched him live for the u21 against Uzbekistan and he was the worst player on the fking pitch - by some distance - he could'nt trap a bag of cement :annoyed:

Had no movement, expected the ball on a plate all night, did not make himself available etc etc and basically looked half arsed - he was absolutely abysmal and if this is the future of Englands strike force then - blimey

I really dont know what to say

Having watched that game I agree with the sentiment although would add that young players can be inconsistant and he looked to be having a bit of an off day to say the least. He'll have better games for sure although I still have reservations about the parts of his game you pointed out.

Passing I'm not sure about as they are both better at different things, Welbeck with short flicks and backheels and things, Sturridge with longer push passes. But Sturridge's vision definitely impresses me more, its one of the first things I saw from him in a City shirt. The composure and intelligence to play a team mate in.

They are similar with their dribbling and pace.

It's going to be fun to look back on all of Scholesy's predictions on youngsters in a few years.

He's got a good eye for a pass for a striker.

On loan from Chelsea. 6 goals in 8 games for Bolton.

Torres = 0. :smirk:

Has anyone seen him play for Bolton? How good is he?

I said following the Community Shield that he should be considered a first XI player at Chelsea this season, he is now proving that to be true by not just outscoring Torres since beginning at Bolton but by outscoring Torres, Drogba and Anelka combined.

I can understand playing Anelka and Drogba ahead of him in the first half of the season to an extent, but Kalou as well?

Come on now.

Can't remember, did he play against us a couple of weeks ago? If so he didn't do much because I didn't really notice him.

However his record at Bolton seems to suggest he's been great. Even more galling considering Torres' record.

England's got some very promising technical players coming through in the shape of Welbeck, Sturridge, Wilshire, McEachran and Cleverley. If they all manage to continue their positive development, then it should have a very positive influence on the playing style of the national team in the future.

He's been really impressive out on loan and I imagine Chelsea will be keen for him to play a part in their first team squad next season. I can't see Torres, Drogba and Anelka all being at the club come August so he should get opportunities.

I don't think he's any better than Bent or Defoe when they were emerging, from what (admittedly little) ive seen of him.

For me this, same level of player, whereas Welbeck has the potential to reach the next level.

Meh. I still don't rate him. He plays for himself.

He'll go on to have a decent Premier League career similar to the likes of Defoe but won't make it at Chelsea or A.N.Other big club.
