Daniel Sturridge

I was hoping that he might say, 'true, it is a bit early to make a real judgement but I still feel he'll become the better player, he seems like a special talent that you can see straight away, although I can't be sure'.

Helps to see where he's coming from, encourages debate too.

I achieved something similar.

You're certainly an interesting one, Brwned.

I'll give you that much.

As long as those you're discussing things with are fine with you, you've nothing to be apologising for.

I just find you to be a curious chap. In a good way.

I suppose that's some sort of a compliment, so thanks. :D

I will tone it down a bit though, I've become progressively more argumentative each week.

Starting to annoy myself sometimes.

Sturridge is better than Wellbeck, let's not kid ourselves please.

I beg to differ, mate. Sturridge is probably the more effective player right now but that's purely down to him being at a more advanced stage in his physical development. From what I've seen (obviously a bit more of our Danny than of City's) Welbeck's more skillful and blessed with a better footie brain. They're both very good finishers, Sturridge might be a bit faster though that's a tough call. Sturridge will probably be a very good player, but there's just something so natural about Welbeck.

I think quite the opposite but fair enough, your opinion.

If he is going to have to play for such a shit team he may as well get paid a hefty wage

Welbeck has come in and slotted in nicely at the world's best team. His link up play with Berbatov for example was immense and the great thing about him is he always get something in general as long as he has the right service. I can't see Strurridge coming into the United the same way.

Apparently he's signed for Chelsea.

Chelsea have kicked off Carlo Ancelotti’s reign in spectacular style by luring Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City and preparing a £45million bid for another wonderkid, AC Milan’s Alexandre Pato.

They have moved to revitalise their ageing squad by signing the highly-rated 19-year-old striker, who was out of contract at Eastlands, and moving for Brazil forward Pato, also 19, who played for manager Ancelotti in Italy.

The Italian has also convinced owner Roman Abramovich to perform a U-turn over Didier Drogba and offer the striker a new three-year contract despite his outburst after Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona.

Bridge bound: Daniel Sturridge will join Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea

Ancelotti does not officially start until next month but he is urgently restructuring the club’s attack and may not yet have given up on Kaka, his favourite player from AC Milan, who is thought to prefer a move to Spain.

Real Madrid thought they had struck a world record £54m deal for the Brazilian last night after agreeing a five-year contract worth £148,000-a-week net, but reports in Spain claimed Chelsea were trying to hijack the deal.

England Under 20 striker Sturridge has become the first signing of the new regime on a free after City refused to meet his £55,000-aweek wage demands. He made 16 Premier League appearances last season and scored four goals but Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen has been after him for three years.

Pato has been seen as Kaka’s replacement for club and country and his signing would be a real coup.

Remember ages ago when Kippax Kid was banging on about Chelsea bidding 14m for him when he was 16 or something

Stupid if he goes to Chelsea - wont play much and his career will go backwards

You can't ask for £65K when you've hardly played at the top level, no matter how hyped you are as a youth player. The kid is naive - he's done nothing yet but he and his agent are after silly money just because they know City have it.

Mind you, if he wasn't at City, he'd probably get more chances and he might have more of a case, so maybe he's partly trying to talk his way into a move. Somehow doubt he'll pick the right club though.

It was just last year

It happens every two years which is one of the drawbacks of having a top African player, although the travel isnt as bad for internationals as South American players for the most part, having a major tournament in January is far worse. There should have been a stipulation by FIFA that Africa move their Continental tournament to the summer, if they want to hold the World Cup in Africa in 2010, well that would have been wise, but idiots run FIFA and UEFA

He's very good on the ball, superb control.

Chelsea looks like the wrong move though. He should stay at City.

We've no way of knowing that.

Evans is an outstanding talent, we all know that, but all the noises coming out about Sturridge are saying the same thing.

We'll need to see him in more games before making that judgement.

Based on what we've already seen, it's a no brainer. Evans has been good to the extent that he's filled in adequately for Rio Ferdinand (the best defender in the world), just as Anderson did for Scholes when he was injured.

Sturridge clearly has a lot of ability, but Evans has established him in a fantastic team.

I rate Sturridge as a good prospect, but hopefully his career will stall after he's decided he was worth over 50k a week, and joined a club where he'll get very limited chances.

Might get a Carling Cup medal though.

Why do wish his career would stall because he wanted more money? You do realise the reason people play football professionally is for money?

He's come up through the ranks for City, where he's been moulded into the player he is today. Plays a handful of games for the first team and decides he's worth 50K. Greedy, arrogant, mercenary, cnut. All words that describe him quite well i think.

Massive wage demands, it must be said.

Quality argument that.

Well you can look at it in two ways, they 'moulded him' into the player he is now because they wanted his services and knew he could become a top player. End of the day no matter how loyal you are if someone comes in and offers you huge money it is easy to sit behind a computer screen and say you would refuse it but not so easy when you are in that position.

Funny how this always applies to footballers. How come when a person comes through the ranks (so to speak) in a company and leaves he isn't put down like this? Playing football is a job to him and naturally you will go to whomever will pay you the most or where you will win most honours while getting a good salary.

I'm not saying what he has done is right that I condone his actions but I do understand why he would leave. In an ideal world he would stay and show more loyalty but most football clubs these days will get rid of a player as soon as they can when the player is finished so should players show them loyalty back?

Mark Hughes is a bit clueless

On the one hand he's advising Sturridge to stay, and on the other he's going after Eto'o, Tevez, Santa Cruz and every other striker in Europe

Chelsea have won the fight to sign England Under 20 striker Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City.

But Sportsmail understands the fee will be decided by a tribunal after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement on adequate compensation for a player whose contract expires this summer.

Sturridge, 19, is not available on a Bosman free because he is under 24 and City are thought to be seeking a ‘development fee’ of £10million when the matter goes before an FA tribunal.

Chelsea hoped to reach an agreement but their £3m offer has been rejected.

Sturridge stunned City by demanding £55,000 a week to sign a new contract at Eastlands, leaving Chelsea and Aston Villa to fight for his signature.

He made 16 Premier League appearances last season and scored four goals but Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen has been after him for three years.

City are expected to make a claim for a down-payment in excess of £5m and propose that the remainder of the money comes in performance-related installments.

Not sure what to think of it. I know he's a highly rated youngster and English talent is always in demand considering the new UEFA rules but what are his chances of making it with us?

Then again, with City signing every attacker in sight he may have more chance at playing time at Stamford Bridge.

One of my mates is cousins with one of Chelsea's reserve team players (Conor Clifford, I think) and apparently it's been a done deal for months. I had heard it months ago, anyway.

fecking stupid move on his part and clearly for the money. If he was going to move he should have at least moved to a club where he would play.

He got 16 premiership appearances last season, he will be lucky to get half of that at Chelsea next year.

He is a top prospect, better than welbeck at this stage if we are completely honest with ourselves. Yet another transfer that leaves you worried about the state of professional football.

He'll have better training facilities and better players to train with though.

City have already got Robinho,Bellamy,Bojinov,Jo,Caicedo,Santa Cruz,Evans and most likely Tevez as a competition for Sturridge. I don't think he'll have much luck getting playing time there, either.

So I get judged when I say Sturridge > Wellbeck but no one else does when it's the other way round?.

That would be because this is a Manchester United message-board and most people commenting on Welbeck will have watched him in dozens of games over the last few years.

That and the obvious objective evidence that Welbeck is younger yet ahead of Sturridge in the England pecking order.

So I get judged when I say Sturridge > Wellbeck but no one else does when it's the other way round? Yeah I haven't seen THAT much of both but from what I've seen, Sturridge is better and his technique is quality. I don't know how their careers will go but Sturridge is more talented imo.

That's the thing with you and a few others, can't really see past technique, or just generally exaggerate it's importance.
